The Highlander Bar & Grill

Very disappointed... We discovered this gem two years ago and have been waiting to go back. Positives - Beautiful views, live music, and the food was very good. Unfortunately, we arrived at our 6:45 reservation and had ordered dinner by 7:00. Then we waited and WAITED. Our server barely checked on us. Our food arrived at 8:45. Two hours! The prices are very high. There was no compensation, no offer of some bread or complimentary appetizer. We just sat there in rather uncomfortable metal chairs. Suggestion - Eat dinner before you go. Go for the music and some beverages. Perhaps they need to rethink the menu and stick with something faster and cheaper. Over $100 for 2 entrees and 2 wines is A LOT.

We brought our extended family there for Father's Day dinner and it was fantastic. Service, drinks, atmosphere and food were wonderful...have the Asada if it's on the menu. I highly recommend Highlander Bat & Grill. Make sure to Golf while you are out there as well

The Highlander is a best kept secret in Canyon Ferry. The food and drinks/wine/beer are outstanding. Cage is a top-notch bar tender! We enjoy talking with the staff -- such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It's great they have live music on the weekends, too.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in a while & I've been to many in the USA & abroad. Love the staff!! The food is amazing much more than 5 stars. Thank you piper & staff for taking care of my family of three! Next time we visit Montana we will return. Cigars amazing. Bbq amazing. Bourbon ahhhh!! Gonna get a few bottles lol. Thanks.

Made reservations for Saturday Night which happened to be the kick off of their music on the patio. Music was good! Food was great! Ordered from the seafood menu. Service was outstanding. Beer was a little warm.

Always great! Favorites are cauliflower, pork belly and flatbread. Carne asado to die for! Order light on the spice level for the noodles.

Wonderful birthday dinner for our family. The live music that night was perfect. Service impeccable and food, ordered everything from crab cakes to spicy noodles to hamburger to chicken risotto was enjoyed by all.

Warm and lively , dinner was perfectly prepared! I can't wait to go back in the spring .

Friendly staff, delicious food, reasonably priced. Probably the best dining you'll find in and around Helena. I would definitely recommend the Highlander if your looking for a good meal!

Overpriced: Shrimp & Scallop dish $32. Comes in a deep bowl that is only filled at the bottom. This was a surprise. We thought they had run out of plates! It was weird. There were a handful of scallops and maybe 2 shrimp, mostly mashed potatoes, and some gravy on top. It was good, but nothing special and very overpriced for what you got. 3 of us ordered this dish. We all felt the same way. They charge for soft drink refills. Just be aware. Most places don't, but they are $2.50 per refill here. Terrible Service: It took well over an hour to get our food. No updates or check-ins by the waitstaff. Food Quality: See above for shrimp & scallops. My husband had the root vegetable salad and said it was very saucy and didn't taste too good. He also had the empanada appetizer which he said was good. Overall: As much as we love to support our local businesses, we won't be back. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my husband and instead it was an overpriced disappointment. We have been in the past and it was quite good. This was our first time with new owners and we were not impressed.

Fantastic Food. Best meal in Helena! Little long between salad and meal but we were there for birthday so it was a party with great company. Will definitely be going back!!!

A hidden treasure out on the East side of Canyon Ferry, the Highlander Bar & Grill never fails to excel! Superb food and service are the standard. The steaks are exceptional. Just had the scallops and shrimp. Served in a bowl with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, it was the best I've ever had. The sauce was amazing and it was so huge I had another complete meal the next day for lunch! Looking forward to next Wednesday's dinner with wine pairing!
