Kudos to the chef - best food in Missoula from the risotto, sea bass, scallops, duck and pork chop. Yum - we'll be back!

Outstanding find in Missoula. Off the beaten track, but easily accessible. Quaint, romantic setting with an impressiveness French menu. The food was also outstanding with impeccable service.

1st class. Ate at the bar, wine list is as good as it gets. Wife had the Sea Bass & I had the beef cheeks with their recommended wine pairing. Absolutely delish!!

We had an incredible dining experience at Boxcar! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and effortlessly chic. We started with the oysters, which were impeccably fresh and beautifully presented, briny, clean, and absolutely delicious.

The Boxcar salad was a surprising standout, perfectly balanced with fresh arugula, and just the right touch of acidity. For the main course, we had the filet mignon, and it was perfectly tender, and bursting with flavor.

To top it all off, the wine selection was exceptional. Zach helped us pair a wine that complemented every course, elevating the whole experience.

Boxcar hits all the right notes. Outstanding food, great ambiance, and top-notch service. We’ve been dining here for years and will continue for years to come!

The menu on Open Table and the Boxcar online menu need to be updated. It was disappointing to have wines listed on the online menu but not available in person. The same with the Charcutererie Meat & Cheese Board, not available in person. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, my two companions loved their meals. The service and ambience is great, our waiter was very friendly and wine savvy! We will be back!

Savoring the Night: A Table for Two Siblings

From the moment I stepped through the doors, it was clear this meal would be more than sustenance, it would be ceremony. We began with the freshest oysters, served in their unadorned glory. Cool and briny, they melted on the tongue like sweet cream butter, awakening the senses with a whisper of the sea. It was a clean, bright start, elegant in its simplicity.

What followed was a revelation: a sous chef’s special crafted by the formidable Joshua Clinger. His creation—savory duck wrapped in golden vol-au-vents—was nothing short of transcendent. The pastry flaked at the gentlest touch, giving way to rich, tender duck tucked inside like a secret. A cream sauce, indulgent and perfectly matched, accompanied the dish like a lifelong companion. It was the kind of course that settles into your bones, the kind that fills you not just physically, but emotionally, beyond any known comfort food.

As for the Boxcar Salad—colorful, competent, and crisp—it served its role as a nod to freshness. A straightforward interlude in an otherwise symphonic meal, the simplicity of the salad was a welcome accompaniment to my blackened prawns.
The blackened prawns, nestled over a bed of carrot purée and huckleberry mash, they delivered a cascade of flavors both grounded and ethereal. Each bite offered contrast: the smokiness of the prawns against the gentle sweetness of carrot, the bright burst of berry weaving between. I savored every bite, felt the textures dissolve slowly, and allowed the combination to intoxicate my palate with something close to awe. I shamelessly requested crostini to catch every last drop of this edible poetry.

The true heart of the evening, however, lay in the service. Our server was intuitive and attentive, creating the atmosphere of a shared meal among siblings. There was no trace of performance or pretense—only the genuine warmth of someone who loves what they do. It felt like coming home.

This wasn’t just dinner. It was an experience. Art. A story written in flavor and feeling. I’ll be back when the stars and schedule allow—and I’ll bring others with me.

We ordered the ‘Pursued By Bear' wine. SOOOOO GOOD! The escargot could have had a little more flavor and honestly the blackened prawns were lacking in flavor as well. We got the petite filet with EXTRA chimichurri and it was EXCELLENT!

One of the top restaurants in town. Always delivers. Some salads are as little small but it is French I suppose. Overall I really enjoy the restaurant.

Amazing everything! Definitely the best food I've had in Missoula/best burger ever really.

I recommend here for date night. There aren’t many spots like this in Missoula so it was nice to find something that felt more upscale. We liked the sea bass dish the best.

We were wowed, plain and simple, by this place. From the moment we walked in until we left, we had great, personable, and attentive service. The food was delicious- I had the foie gras and sea bass. My friend had the French onion soup and a steak. We had just been at a very lauded and highly rated restaurant in Helena the night before and his steak was so much better at the Boxcar. We loved trying the wines paired with the dishes as well as off of the dessert wine menu. Interesting and unexpected selections. Can't wait to come back!
