After watching Eva Longorio "Searching for Mexico" on CNN, I used an upcoming trip to Cancun to try a regional Yucatan specialty: cochinita pibil. This a a shredded pork dish roasted for 8+ hours underground and flavored with cloves and achiote (annatto) for a reddish moist shredded meat. It's a recipe from the Mayan times on the pennisula and very authentic at the quaint 40+years old Emara Antjotes restaurant near Parque de las Palapas. The route 2 bus drops you off about 3 minutes walk away (avoid the scammers at Mercado 28) and only costs $1 USD from anywhere in the hotel zone. Bathrooms at Emara are very clean and working, restaurant is clean and service was pleasant. Delicious cochinita wrapped in corn tortilla with nice frijoles negroes. No alcohol served before noon. Worth tracking down for real Yucatecos cuisine.
The service is fast and super polite, each time they warn me if I attempt to order too much as portions are pretty big :) The food is typical from Yucatan, very good and pretty cheap. Absolutely recommended, I go there each time I desire Yucatecan food.
Service was on point, they were polite and nice. They gave us recommendations when we asked. The food was brought out quickly which was awesome because we were really hungry. The agua de chaya was awesome and food was delicious. We tried the sampler, cochinita and the lechón were amazing. Would definitely come again.
EXCELLENT MEAL! One of the best yucateco food i have tried in cancun. You need to try everything on the menu.
This is the best place to eat Yucatecan snacks (panuchos, salbutes and empanadas) Everything has the same cost $15 MXNThe service is good and the quality of the food too.
Salbutilandia only works at night and stands in front of let's share, the Yucatecan snacks are super delicious and at a super price.
Rich Yucatecan appetizers, empanadas, salbutes, there are black stuffing, chicken, ground beef, cheese...The service is at night and it is very frequented by the locals.
