Off the beaten track but worth the half-block trip up the block from the main road in the west side of the island. Nicer setting than many places, up on the second floor. Not a huge menu, but decently varied. Friendly and helpful service.

Cheese empanada to start, and a chicken burrito as the main. The empanada was good and probably fresh, I could have done without the sour cream and lettuce on top. The chicken burrito was big and not closed like a burrito in the U.S., but still manageable to eat. Again I could have done without the lettuce inside. It had a spread of black beans, nice rice, the side of guacamole was tasty, fresh, and very limey, and they brought little dishes of both spicy and not spicy salsa.

The agua de Jamaica was refreshing—a tall glass with what seemed like cane sugar at the bottom. Order it without ice if you need that, although I didn’t.

Gr8 local Isla Mujeres hidden spot, mid island to sit roof top and enjoy the Ever present Carribean Breeze and ice cold Cervesaz… saw the food, just didn’t have any. The guests there offered rave reviews and were expat locals that bragged about how Gr8 it was, so I’ll try it next time. Smooth Vibe in the neighborhood…

I recently dined at Chile y Maíz and had an outstanding experience. Although a vegetarian burrito wasn't listed on the menu, the staff was incredibly accommodating when I asked for vegetarian options. They crafted a burrito packed with a variety of fresh vegetables, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were vibrant and satisfying. The willingness to cater to my dietary preference and the quality of the food truly impressed me. Highly recommend this place for its exceptional service and delicious meals!

Went here for dinner around 7, it’s a bit hidden so look for a red two story home, the restaurant is located on the second level/rooftop. It’s a beautiful restaurant, the service was great. They do only speak Spanish, but they are very understanding and welcoming. Some of the best food we’ve had on the island, the flautas were amazing. The tacos tuétanos were also very good. Everything is homemade and delicious. The mojito was very refreshing. I highly recommend you try this place!

We stumbled across this place and thank goodness we did. It’s hidden in a neighborhood on the south side and you have to go up a flight of stairs to reach the rooftop bar/restaurant. Best flautas I’ve ever had and I’ve had many. We also ordered the Tuetano tacos which were incredible. The presentation of the food is beautiful which matches the restaurant. Ditch the touristy restaurants and enjoy authentic Mexican food with better prices for the servings at Chile y Maiz! P.S. they have a super cute frenchie named Taco who roams around and makes you feel at home!

I'm so glad we ate here; by far, these were the best tacos we had during our honeymoon. The spicy margarita and classic margarita were also perfect. We wanted to go back a few days later to find they were closed that day. Definitely a recommendation; it was authentically delicious, everything was just right. Thank you!

The Chile & mais is an experience that begins with a climb up a set of steep stairs until you reach the colorful restaurant. Menus are in Spanish. Food and drinks are quite reasonable and the chef does a great job of presentation. Think tasty food art. We selected the chicken burrito bowl, giant shrimp tacos, pork tacos with grandma sauce and sopes. Everyone loved their selection and how the food was beautifully presented. Bravo! Highly recommended. Cash or credit cards accepted.

Nice little restaurant on the Isla island. It’s open late hours and when everything was closed, I found this place to eat some good fish tacos
