One of the best dining experiences of my life (no exaggeration). My wife and I - celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary - had been on the island for several nights and had struck out dining-wise for three nights in a row. On our fourth and final night - and on a whim - we found Sunset Grill and were treated to an enchanting evening of superb food, service and atmosphere. The proprietors showed their love of the island and food in their gracious hospitality and sumptuous menu.

It is hard to say what is best about this place.

The view: amazing
The people: also amazing
The food: fresh, plentiful, and delicious

This spot I'd already on our list as a must stop not only when we are on the island but when we are in the area. It's worth the ferry from Cancun just to dine here!

They are very welcoming and speak English perfectly.

We had a great dining experience at this establishment. The views were amazing and the food was delicious. Everything was made from scratch so we had a little bit of wait but it was well worth it. My picky son had a cheeseburger and he loved it. The owners were very nice and friendly. I highly recommended the place.

The food here is excellent but unfortunately they haven’t finished building out the patio and the ambiance gets overwhelmed by the bar next door. The owners are super nice and the food is very good but the experience didn’t live up to our expectations.

If you want really good fresh food cooked with family love, look no further. I felt like I was treated as part of the family. The food was freshly cooked when ordered! Keep in mind the food took a little while to be served, but it was worth it, especially during the sunset. Everything we ordered was impeccable, and we would definitely come back again to try other foods from the menu. Thank you Felipe for the great service! Pictures are below. We had wine, 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 1 dessert. Sorry, I didn't take pictures of the appetizers ( I was too excited and ate the appetizers before taking the pic.

Hello everyone,
We have been on Isla Mujeres for 7 days now. We have tried all restaurants on this island. The Sunset Grill is the best one so far out of all of them because how fresh and tasty their food is. Don’t let the appearance of the restaurant inside fool you, its a family owned business and inside looks very homely and not very decorated, beautiful children run around, but, there is a veranda on the outside of the restaurant that overlooks the ocean and it is beatiful when dining while you are surrounded by this view. The old man who is the owner of this restaurant, perhaps, is the sweetest person on earth. He comes to the table and offers all possible comfort you can get. He made us shrimp cocktail with tortillas while they were still opening the kitchen ( we got there one hour early and he still took us in), it was so delicious, my sister and I almost drank the juice out of it after we ate all the shrimp (she used all tortillas to finish the juice but I also almost drank the juice it was so good).
Than we had a stuffed chicken with spinach and cheese, seafood stew, french fries, and espresso coffee. This was our second visit there. Their Shrimp Chipotle is out of this world, it is so delicious and fresh, its mind-blowing. On the whole island, no one knows how to prepare lobster well, they overcook it and its chewy and tough. Sunset Grill’s lobster was stuffed with cheese and other ingredients, but it was not as soft as it should be, but it was still the better lobster than anywhere on the island. Their drinks a good, like everywhere else. Salad was delicious and fresh. We ate shrimp soup, it was so good. I think more people should go to this place so that it can thrive. Most people go to the center of Isla Mujeres where it’s all commercialised and has no quality at all. This please is not in the center, it’s on the side of the main road and maybe not many people notice it right away, but, I absolutely encourage everyone to try this place out! They are so great!

The best environment, very tasty dishes, attentive service. There is only one restaurant on the island, where delicious dishes are prepared. I recommend based on my own experience.

We went to this restaurant to experience a sunset dinner overlooking the water. I am not one to quickly post a negative review. We entered the restaurant and there were several very active young children with their toys spread everywhere at the restaurant entrance. There are no tables at this restaurant with a sunset view. The sunset was blocked by the building next to the restaurant. There were only 4 tables outside of the "salon" inside seating. My husband's pealla was good. The coconut shrimp I had was good but the rice was ice cold and I had to cut it with a knife because it was so stiff. The combination of the noise coming from the local's corn hole tournament next to the restaurant and the children running wild and screaming through the restaurant made this dining experience fall well below our expectations.

Felipe and Margarita are wonderful hosts that provide a unique dining experience that make you feel like you are dining with family. The food and setting are top notch. And of course the sunsets are top notch.

We have been coming to Isla Mujeres for 17 years, for an extended period of time, and one of the things we love about it is that it’s a “foodie destination”.Coconut shrimp is one of our favourite things to eat, and we have tried it in many different restaurants every year. This year, when I was diagnosed as being gluten intolerant, I was concerned that I couldn’t eat coconut shrimp at our favourite spot, Sunset Grill. In fact, Felipe made the adjustment and both my husband and I found that the coconut shrimp tasted better than ever, which we didn’t think could be possible! We both feel that they were the best shrimp we’ve ever had on the island. They were fresh, large, juicy and enormously flavourful. We couldn’t recommend them more highly.

Dietary restrictions: I am gluten-free and dairy free and they are very sensitive to making adjustments and the food is just as delicious as I experienced when I didn’t have to have those restrictions!

Great food and excellent service! I got the blackened snapper and my parents got the Thai shrimp and both were amazing. Easy to miss when passing by on the road, but a must when you visit Isla Mujeres.
