Can’t leave the island without my carnitas fix. Carnitas Diaz never disappoints.

Stopped in the way back to the house for a quick bite. Got two Gorditas for 50 pasos. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious and well seasoned. The best gordita I had eaten on the island. Happy I stopped by and happy to recommend this place to anyone.

Every time I feel like it I run to the market to eat a solid pokar with little leather! Really rich!

Food review time....Carnitas Diaz ‘Mercado’ on 25th @ the MercadoAfter a long three weeks away from the island we are back so I figured it’s time for another review. This time I am going to tell you about the new Carnitas Diaz branch that is in Centro. Let’s start by giving a nod to the original restaurant located on 65th. That place has a cult following by the locals and there is always a line out the door.Ok, more about the location at the Mercado. It is on the east side of the market facing 25th. Hard to miss as it is on the perimeter of the Mercado you don’t even have to go in like the other food stalls. There is plenty of signage with Carnitas Diaz painted on the white exterior walls. Parking on 25 is there but during prime shopping hours it may be hard to find a spot that is close. This isn’t unusual for the city center....but since we live close we just walk everywhere anyway, no worries. On to the menu. It really is a simple one. You can get tacos, tortas, or gorditas filled with just one protein. PORK! They do it so well. You can tell the pork is well seasoned and cooked long and slow. The meat is fall apart tender and juicy. We like to order ours ‘solo mesesa’ (not sure about the spelling). This means just the pork meat. You can get it mixed with all kinds of pieces like skin, fat, etc....All mixed together and chopped. They make their own masa and fry up the gorditas in house. Onions and cilantro are optional and on the side if requested. They offer two hot sauces that go perfect with the pork. One is red and not so hot and has a smoky flavor and a green the will light you up, my favorite. The owner Gabby (the sister of the brother who owns the location on 65th) and her husband Fernando are putting out some great meat and it shows. The pork is the showstopper and it has to be because of the simple and clean food offerings. The Mercado location stays open later than the original location, 2:30, and the line is much smaller. I just think because people don’t know about it yet. Now you do!Great prices, amazing fillings, and service with a smile await you. If you are at the Mercado, and you should be shopping local, give Carnitas Diaz a try. Tell them you saw the review on CMC and that Mike sent you ?. Buen ProvechoGorditas 25pTortas 35pTacos 19p

With the same quality and service of the Díaz generation, the food is served in generous portions and with a very good taste of Mexican food, the employees are very friendly and the owner's personal attention, recommended.
