This one was right on the line between a three-star and a four-star review. We thought that the flavors here for the things we tried (a Nashville hot chicken "blue plate special", and an open-faced chicken biscuit platter) were not bad, but the Nashville hot wasn't very hot--to us, anyway--and the chicken wasn't as juicy as we were hoping for. Now, those jerk seasoned cauliflower and the beets? Solid. And the burger made my daughter very happy. Plus, the service speed was a little faster than we were expecting given some of the other spots we hit in Asheville for this vacation. I would definitely come back here, because a friend of mine who lived here for a while swears by this place. But as a first impression, I thought this was a 3.5 out of 5.0, and as my kids like to say, 3.5 is not a recommendation. I do recommend checking out the space, though; it's not fancy, and I love how many restaurants in town seem to be in someone's house.

Great food, we stopped for brunch in ATL and everything was perfect. Very natural and homemade.

The service was wonderful. The food was fresh and delicious, the biscuits were phenomenal! The atmosphere itself was so unique and homey. Definitely recommend coming here for brunch!

This is a very unassuming, casual place. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I had the Blue Plate Special (a chicken sammy with fries) and a Diet Coke. My wife ordered the pot pie with a locally produced Devil's Foot ginger beer. Our meals were both delicious and the portions were very ample. The service was good and all of the staff was friendly and helpful.

Saw this on Yelp and hope to try it tomorrow morning! Locals say that it's worth the effort; just a short walk from airbnb neighborhood.

Stopped by for a takeout dinner of the fried chicken and mashed entree which came highly recommended. So i received a 4oz fried breast, cooked correctly but really small and a scoop of mashed potatoes that had more skin then potato, dressed with a Mushroom gravy. Not what i would call a memorable meal at all. Service was good and it has a old rustic interior.

Came here during my trip to Asheville and I was not disappointed! I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich, leaving out the sprouts and red onion and I swapped out the honey mustard for mayonnaise instead. It was incredible! I also love how the portion size is so big, I almost couldn't finish. I definitely recommend coming here.

It's in old house what could be better I felt like I was at an aunts house nothing flashy just awesome food I had meatloaf w/ mushroom gravy mashed potatoes and collard greens it was fantastic, just go in order find a table and your food arrives, great service it's a pearl in side an oyster.

The only thing exceptional about this place is how awful their food is-don't be fooled by the good reviews. I had their fried chicken, a proclaimed specialty. First of all it was burned beyond belief. It was like it had been burned fried, put away and microwaved for serving, which only added to its toughness. I cannot emphasize how awful it was. A clay fired brick would have been more tender than what was served. The side sweet potatoes tasted burned as well. I would have gladly traded my plate for KFC If I could have; at least their chicken is tender and juicy. This establishment is a disgrace to the independent eateries AVL is famous for. Awful.

Great food! It's a little busy and crowded and they have the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in, but the food was great! I'd also say the server was friendly and attentive. I don't live in Asheville, but my friend does and recommended this as one of her favorite breakfast spots. It's not hard to see why. I got the shrimp and grits and they were terrific!

HomeGrown in Asheville is a delightful nod to all things local and comforting, encapsulating the essence of down-to-earth, farm-fresh dining. From the moment you walk in, you're wrapped in a cozy, rustic vibe that feels like a warm embrace from an old friend. The decor is a charming mix of country chic and vintage nostalgia, creating a space that's as inviting as a home kitchen. The staff here are the heart and soul of the place, greeting you with smiles as sunny as the farm-fresh eggs on the menu. They're not just servers; they're ambassadors of Southern hospitality, ready to make your meal a memorable one with their friendly chatter and expert recommendations. Now, let's talk about the star of my visit - the buttermilk chicken. This dish was a heartwarming reminder of what home-cooked, soul-satisfying food is all about. The chicken was fried to golden perfection, with a crispy, flavorful crust that gave way to the most tender, juicy meat imaginable. It was clear that this was no ordinary chicken; this was chicken raised with care, cooked with love, and served with pride. Paired with thoughtful, home-style sides, each bite took me on a nostalgic journey to the comforting meals of yesteryear. But HomeGrown isn't just about great food; it's about the story behind the food. It's about supporting local farmers, celebrating the bounty of the region, and bringing people together over shared plates and shared stories. It's a place where every meal is a testament to the community, crafted with ingredients that tell a tale of quality, care, and connection. Whether you're a local or just passing through, HomeGrown offers an experience that's as wholesome as it is delicious. It's a place where you can feed your body and soul, savoring the simple pleasures of good food and good company. So come on in, pull up a chair, and get ready to feel right at home at HomeGrown.

My wife and I decided to try a new place today while we were in Asheville. We seen this place on Yelp and decided to try it. The first thing I noticed was the parking is very limited and I mean very limited. If there are more than five cars there is no where to park. When you walk in there is a large menu on the wall that you and pick from. You have to order and pay before you sit down, I'm not a fan of that. The place was very cold, tables were small. They bring your food to your table, no one ever can by to check on us or ask if we liked the food. I had the Redneck Cuban, it was ok nothing to write home about. My wife had a burger and we couldn't decide if it was real meat or not. Not impressed at all. We will not go back

It was good. The fried chicken was better than the meatloaf. Service was fine. The cabbage was a bit spicy for me but my husband liked it.
