Limones Restaurant 15 Eagle St, Asheville Mexican • $$$

“Every single interaction we had at Limones was sincere, intentional, and well executed. We were greeted and given a place to wait in the lobby with an herbal seltzer. Our server Jamie was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and gave eloquent, robust descriptions of the food as well as his recommendations we requested. We shared the lardo pizza - you should too. This is cellophane thin pork fat rendered just so to melt into incredible cheese and oven fired crust. I would go back for more this second. Every part of our meal exuded that impeccable attention to detail. A ravioli type pasta with ham cornbread and peas was the perfect Appalachian/Italian pairing. The tiramisu was thick, custardy, eggy in the lightest but creamiest way. The pistachio gelato with pistachio syrup was incredible. My only wish would’ve been to try one more dessert but we did make a 9:30 reservation so you roll the dice. That panna cotta sounded wonderful. I could not imagine anyone being less than thoroughly impressed with Limones. My husband was a chef for 20+ years and felt every aspect of a great meal was part of our meal there. 10/10 Limones.”

Huli Sue's BBQ and Grill 1 Page Ave SUITE 150, Asheville American • $$

“On Saturday, February 14th, I went downtown for a solo dinner at Huli Sue’s and quickly realized I had completely forgotten Billy Strings was in town for the weekend. Between Valentine’s Day and a sold-out show within walking distance, downtown was absolute chaos. Walking into Huli Sue’s, though, felt like stepping into a well-oiled machine. The hostess (I truly wish I had gotten her name) greeted everyone calmly and kept the flow of guests organized and welcoming. They were operating on a reservation system for the evening honestly genius given the circumstances. Even as a party of one, the wait was about an hour and a half, which I completely understood. Knowing I was craving their food, she suggested takeout. She even let me sit at the table where they roll silverware so I could look over the menu and wait for my roommate to text their order and never once made me feel rushed. While I waited, I watched her run the entrance like an absolute goddess. She was pleasant, efficient, and incredibly organized. Every table being notified was already set, down to water poured and ready. When guests arrived, she greeted them with genuine enthusiasm and walked them to their tables like they were honored guests. Downtown was a madhouse. People kept walking in without reservations, and she calmly explained the wait. When guests were understandably discouraged, she let them know they were accepting reservations for the 15th and I honestly didn’t hear a single person turn her down. She made everyone feel welcome. Despite the cold and the madness outside, the restaurant remained calm and peaceful inside. Even at full capacity, the volume stayed comfortable. The kitchen ran like an orchestra no yelling, no chaos, no stressed staff just teamwork and smiles. I wanted to take a moment to praise Huli Sue’s, their staff, and their phenomenal hostess. They handled what could have been an overwhelming night with grace and efficiency. They already had my business —but after that experience, I’ll make it a point to go even more often.”

The Bar at Table 18 N Lexington Ave, Asheville Bar • $$

“Happy hour: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm M - F
If you love beer or cocktails and you need an early dinner, this is a great happy hour. You can get a huge chicken sandwich that tastes high quality for $9 or a delicious burger for $12. Drinks range from $3 - $10. They have plenty of cocktail and beer options during the happy hour as well. The only thing I wish they did was a red and white house wine with the happy hour menu as well. Other than that this is perfect for people who want a fancy delicious experience without the high price tag.

The happy hour definitely made me want to come back for the full dinner menu! I will 100000% be back.”

“What a great place to celebrate our birthdays. Two from KY and two from Augusta GA to enjoy celebrating all four of us having birthdays. Stuart who waited on us was EXCELLENT. We asked him about the damage to Asheville and we could hear it in his voice how hurt he was because others suffered so much. He was very gracious that we chose Asheville to celebrate our birthdays. I had the best shrimp and grits ever and I'm 73. Every meal the fried oysters, salads, Reuben Sandwich there is no negative experience. I hesitated to order the banana pudding but was intrigued by the description. So glad I did, it was so different than what I've ever had but the BEST I've ever had. Thank you to everyone working that day on 1/22 that wished us Happy Birthdays and made this such a wonderful memory for all 4 of us. Very welcoming, great personalities but above all GREAT FOOD.”

“If I could give them 10 stars, I would! I took my husband here for his birthday dinner last night, & we definitely felt like we had a culinary experience! The drinks we spectacular & affordable. We did the chef tasting for dinner, & the staff made it like telling a story through food. Our server Jesse G was so personable, animated, made great recommendations, & very attentive to us the entire meal. Okay, so just about the food. We are total foodies, especially on a vacation/for a special occasion like this. We loved unqiue, tasty foods, & occasionally enjoy a more fine dining experience. Our meal at Ukiah was that & more! It was served in 10 small plate courses. They spaced each dish, timed them perfectly, & each dish built on the last in such a way that was truly amazing. Just when we thought the last one was our favorite, the next one was as good or better. The vanilla, almond, coconut cake with house ice cream finisher almost wrecked me lol! I could have licked the plate clean, but I was honestly too full to commit that hard. Every staff member that brought us a dish, refilled our drinks, cleared our table, etc were so friendly. Jesse (funny enough, also my husband's name & same spelling) was one of the best waiter's we've had, but also the kind of person you just want to be friends with after you eat & go hang out at the bar or something. It is definitely a higher end restaurant, but for the experience & service, it is well worth the money! We hope to return some day for sure!”

“Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Lovely ambience in the space. It feels like the kitchen really cares about the food it brings out. One thing I particularly liked was how well all the dishes were seasoned. A bit of heat here, a bit of spice there, and a dash of sweet when needed. And speaking of sweet, the lemon curd cheesecake is a wonder. I love it when the cheesecake part of the cheesecake isn't oversweet. The lemon curd gives a sweet and tart compliment to the creaminess of the dairy in the dish. It's dangerous, I tell you! We'll be back for more.”

“If you are looking for a very chill spot and some tasty simple food, Flour is the spot. Free wifi and quiet in the mornings. A great spot to chat with a friend in peace or get some work done. Sit upstairs and get some people watching in on the streets of downtown.
This is not a true restaurant, but a mini restaurant with only a few items on the menu and no full kitchen. But the biscuits beg to differ -- they are delicious. Crispy and buttery on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and FLAVORFUL. Latte with house made syrup is totally worth it too. And we had a pistachio chocolate chip cookie that was simply delightful -- crisp and salty edges, melty buttery gooey middle.
This is NOT a fun vibe (at least not on a Wednesday morning at 10am). If you're looking for a similar menu but way more vibes, head to Butter Punk.”

And speaking of sweet, the lemon curd cheesecake is a wonder. I love it when the cheesecake part of the cheesecake isn't oversweet. “My wife and I have made it a holiday tradition to dine at The Original Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian every time we visit Asheville. If you’re looking for a meal that feels genuinely authentic and welcoming, this is the one spot you absolutely have to visit.\n\nThe Food We started with the house-made fried mozzarella sticks, and I’m not exaggerating when I say they are by far the best I’ve ever had. For the main course, I had the sausage, peppers, and onions, while my wife went with the twice-baked lasagna. Both dishes were delicious, high-quality, and more than enough to satisfy a hearty appetite.\n\nThe Service We did have a small hiccup getting a table when we first arrived, but the manager was excellent. Once the issue was brought to their attention, they stepped in immediately to make sure we were seated and taken care of quickly.\n\nOne Quick Tip The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the parking. It’s notoriously difficult to find a spot nearby, and since they do not take reservations, you’ll want to arrive well ahead of time to account for the hunt for a parking space and the likely wait for a table.\n\nIt’s a local favorite for a reason—totally worth the extra effort!”

“There was a wonderful variety of items to choose from, it was difficult to decide. We would have gotten the jalapeño fries and cauliflower tacos but their main frier wasn’t working so we got the chorizo tacos, coconut curry and sweet potato Ruben which came with crispy homemade fries (they have a small frier that was working). We don’t enjoy vegan cheese that is made using Science so we opted for the cashew queso which was absolutely delicious. The tacos were our favorite item. The texture and taste were a solid 10 out of ten. Which made me miss trying the cauliflower tacos even more. The Ruben was our 2nd favorite. I usually have tempeh meat on a Ruben so I couldn’t imagine how they could make sweet potato taste “meaty” but they did. It was so delicious, I will be looking up how to make that “sweet potato meat” at home. The Thai Panang Curry was the only disappointment. It was fresh tasting and the tofu was fried to crispy perfection. It just needed more sauce. I got the Blackberry Ginger Mint mocktail. It was just the right amount of sour and was a beautiful presentation. Our only regret was not leaving room for dessert. If we lived in Asheville we would be regulars at this establishment. Our server was also Excellent! She was attentive without being intrusive. She pre-bussed the table and refilled our water glasses and asked if we needed another round and brought us our food perfectly timed! We went back the next day and had the Tostada Enchilada salad (it’s the choriso taco grown up), the Supreme pizza with no cheese (nice crispy crust and a good amount of sauce), the Amaretto Cherry Cheesecake (absolutely worth going back just for that!) the peanut butter cookie (the only disappointment) and the Lime Aid (perfecly balanced and not too sweet). But I preferred the one yesterday. Another wonderful server. Love this place! Updated from previous review on 2025-03-02”

My husband had sea bass in lemongrass broth and I enjoyed tofu in the same broth with thinly sliced carrots and mushrooms on a small bed of Carolina Gold Rice. Delicate and delicious. We ended with the very good chocolate cake and left happy and well fed. It is expensive and worth every penny. I'm sorry I did not make a note of our waitrress's name because she was terrific with a relaxed, yet attentive , style that suited us perfectly. We have not positive comments about our celebratory dinner!”

“I honestly couldn't have had a better lunch while touring Biltmore than at the Inn lounge. My best friend and I are visiting Biltmore for a few days as it's his first time and I looked online and saw this restaurant had the same prices as the ones down at Antler Hill so I figured I rather have a great view and better ambiance . The burger was phenomenal and sauce was an absolute genius masterpiece. But honestly what made our experience an once in a lifetime was our sever Gregory. Not only did he give us the hospitality you expect from this quality of an hotel but he was down to earth and really made us feel welcome to the Biltmore Estate despite not being guests of the Inn. He had the most amazing stories of his experiences of meeting celebrities (like the avengers in one night ask him about it), which is something everyone wishes they had a friend like that. All through out the house tour everyone learns how great lengths George Vanderbilt went through to make his guests experience one to remember , Gregory gave us the Vanderbilt experience today and we will never forget it. In fact, we are considering coming for breakfast tomorrow after our Falconery and even maybe stay at the Inn if people like Gregory are on staff just like George would have for his guests. George would be proud of Gregory for continuing to give his hospitality to this day. Thank you for a wonderful experience, and we hope to see you again soon.”

She snapped at me that I hadn't ordered one- even though we had had a discussion about flavor of jelly- to which she replied "whatever". “Visit on holiday package. Breakfast was fabulous well plated and delicious. Thanksgiving dinner was plated in an unappetizing manner with food smashed up in domes next to each other with cranberry sauce ( not good for diabetic)poured on top of everything. everything was lukewarm and gravy had no flavor. I requested a new plate and received 2 plates with everything in separate bowls still lukewarm. Felt like a snub from the Chef for commenting on plating. Lady next to us had a beautifully plated steak. If you can't do a well plated turkey dinner don't offer it as an option.”

“I am one of the organizers for a monthly network gathering group. We chose to go to DSSOLVR and VOWL for our event this month. We had approximately 200 folks there this past Tuesday (January 14, 2024). The staff nailed it at both bars. Serving 200 people at one time can be a challenge... the staff did not disappoint. It was an extremely welcoming evening from the start to the finish. The owners and management were awesome to work with and delivered everything that they promised and more. They provided a DJ for us (DJ Abu Dissarray), which made the evening even that much more fun. Many of the event-goers had not been to either of these bars, but I heard from many folks that they planned on going back due to the friendliness of the staff and the treatment that we received. “I loved two dishes at the Edison so for my 23rd anniversary we made reservations to go there to eat. I was very sad to hear that both dishes had been removed from the menu. They had the best Brussels sprouts of anywhere I have eaten them. The bolognese pasta was also my favorite. Both removed. I was so disappointed but I will say the staff did everything they could do to make up for it. They gave us champagne and our two appetizers free. They tried to see if the could make the Brussels but they had none to make. They replaced the Bolognese and replaced it with wagu meatloaf. My husband tried and and I took a bite but it wasn't very good to either of us. It had some spice that we didn't like. Please consider bringing those two dishes back at some point. Thank you to the staff that is always top notch.”

Hail Mary 575 Haywood Rd, Asheville Burgers • $

“I stopped by Hail Mary in West Asheville, in the old Tastee Diner spot, during that awkward mid day gap between lunch and dinner when I was absolutely starving. I noticed they had PB&J Brussels sprouts on the menu and knew I had to try them. They did not disappoint. Such a fun and unexpected flavor combination, and it somehow worked perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try something a little different.

I’ve also had a lot of burgers around Asheville, and the Popper Burg here was outstanding. It was a hefty amount of beef grilled to perfection, and the bun stayed out of the way instead of overwhelming the burger. Considering the quality and portion compared with the price, I’d say it easily ranks among my favorite burgers in Asheville.

I also had a chance to meet the owner, Kelly, in person for the first time and I could immediately tell how much passion she puts into the restaurant. The whole place is dripping with Y2K personality, which paired perfectly with the friendly staff and overall vibe.

If you’re visiting Asheville, I wouldn’t miss this one even though it’s not downtown. I think this might even become my go-to late night spot now that Barrel House closed last year.

A huge thanks to everyone for the amazing food and experience. I’ll be back very soon!”

“The Low Down in West Asheville is absolutely amazing! It’s tucked just off Haywood next to The Hop you have to go downstairs to get to it, and the space is gorgeous. Everything here feels thoughtfully designed, from the decor to the lighting sconces, bar, booths, and wall art it’s unlike anywhere else. I wish I had taken pictures because it’s truly stunning.

The drinks are hand-crafted and top-notch, with some ingredients made in-house. Even the glassware is beautiful. There’s a fun game I’d never seen before they called it shuffleboard but not like my great grandads shuffle board, it was unique and the people playing it had a good time, and it adds to the vibe.

I went alone and sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly, attentive, and fun to chat with even while busy. The overall vibe is a perfect mix of a warm, welcoming neighborhood bar with a classy, art-deco, decadent feel. Prices are fair, and the attention to detail is incredible.
