The Bull and Beggar Reviews
We have had several negative experiences at this restaurant. This past time what was supposed to be “happy hour” turned out very unhappy for me and my husband. Crossing it off my list for sure. Overpriced, overrated, and pretentious. Don’t waste your time or money on this place when Asheville has so many better options.

The Bull and Beggar is a well-known upscale casual restaurant in Asheville, offering a semi-seasonal menu with a French-inspired flair. The ingredients are of good quality, and the dishes are conservatively elaborated to showcase their flavors. The service is professional and attentive, making the dining experience suitable for both seasoned and new customers. The restaurant continues to be a top choice in Asheville, especially after other establishments have closed, thanks to its commitment to culinary excellence.
Standout menu items include the escargot, oysters, steak, cabbage and citrus beet salad, and the whipped feta. Customers praise the delicious bread and butter, as well as the creative and flavorful dishes, such as the Gnocchi alla Romano with fresh vegetables. The oysters on half shell from Washington State are often highlighted as the best, with plump, creamy texture and a perfect brine taste. The hanger steak, served with pommes frites, is perfectly grilled medium rare, and the steak tartare is also highly appreciated. A starter of haricots-vert with tomatoes features some of the best tomatoes ever eaten, and the anchovy toast with truffle is so good that many order a second helping. The cocktails, including a terrific Old Fashioned made by the bartender Peter, are spot on, and the wine selection complements the meal well, with a notable Gamay that pairs with everything. Overall, the restaurant's refined yet regionally true aesthetic, combined with excellent service and expertly prepared dishes, makes it a favorite among Asheville's discerning diners.
