Absolutely perfect little gem in Asheville! The food surpassed our expectations. This is a must on any foodies list.

My boss took us out for a nice office dinner one night during the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament. It was very nice, but super expensive (not that I had to pay) and took forever. We were there over three hours. I guess if that's the mood you're in for, it's a good place, but another guy and I had a lot of work left to do for the day. My meal was good, the cabbage and citrus beet salad much better than the fish, though! I had never had cabbage cooked like that or beets and whipped feta either, but it was tasty!

Cool industrial space. Our server was rude. Food is good but not great.

Parking: Much of the parking is in an unpaved lot so it can get a little muddy in the rain!

I made reservations here for my birthday dinner. We got sat on time, the waiter came to the table in a timely manner, and I ordered everything as soon as he arrived and let him know it was my birthday. While he was friendly, everything went downhill from there. I ordered a single appetizer for myself and one entree for me and my husband to share, and it was taking an excessively long time to come.Thirty minutes into dinner, I got my appetizer. Around this time a table behind us got sat. They ordered the same thing as us, and got ALL their food before we got our one entree. They had even finished their food and we still had not received our one entree. I was trying to be patient, but it was my birthday dinner and we had literally been there an hour and a half and still had no food. Clearly either the server forgot to put in our steak, or the kitchen somehow missed our ticket. I expressed my anger to the waiter and he sent the manager up to talk to me. The manager was rude, gave a terrible apology, and did not offer to comp the steak. He said he had no idea what happened to the steak but it will be out asap, after I had already waited an hour and a half. I said let me just pay for my appetizer and leave because clearly this is poor customer service. I reiterated the table being sat after us had already eaten their food while we are sitting here waiting an excessive amount of time. He shrugged and said “I don’t know what happened but yeah it will come asap”. Point being, I will make sure all my colleagues know this place is not it. The service was so terrible it literally ruined my birthday dinner.

Great place in a unique artsy area. The food is definitely unique, and really good. Might be the best steak frites I have had.

Our server was friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is trendy, not really my style. Food was average, seemed way overpriced.

Everything was excellent. The escargot and the oysters where delicious. The steak was better than any steakhouse. Loved this restaurant and menu direction. I will return on my next visit.

Somehow well-known, yet still an early walk-in, so off the "local secret" list. In similar balance, the experience is up-scale Asheville casual. Expect it to be a little pricey. Composed, semi-seasonal menu, not pretentiously obfuscated. Good ingredients conservatively elaborated, leaning toward French full-flavor. Service is professional without being stuffy or hovering. If accustomed to fine dining, appropriately AVL-relaxed; if new, not intimidating.-=-Setting expectations after reading other reviews: allow adequate time. The menu favors multiple courses and conversation. Think, "leisurely double-date with a short walk," if going to a show after dinner.

It’s a nice place but very overpriced. Our single asparagus did have a sprinkling of caviar for $24 but why not put 2 or three on the plate?

The Bull and the Beggar is very hard to find, but well worth the effort. Matthew is an excellent bartender and server. It is a great place for date night. The ambiance is romantic and charming. The food is delicious, though we found the menu limiting. Overall, a high end date night experience.

Really disappointing. A very promising venue with good food spoiled by extraordinarily poor service. We had a 7pm reservation and were not seated until 7:30, and were not seated in the area we requested. Our server came back 3 times in a 90 minute period, after which we had to essentially track her down just to leave. The food is good if it ever arrives.

Our experience here was excellent! Made a reservation ahead of time because it can get busy. The staff is extremely attentive and it’s clear that they care about their costumers. Brenda our waitress was friendly and helpful when it came to choosing items off the menu. I would 100% recommend coming here, for really any occasion.Parking: It’s down underneath the bridge and it can get muddy.

The 34oz bone in rib-eye was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a restaurant in a long time! Incredible meal!
