51 Best Bars in Asheville

“My husband and I went to Asheville a few months ago. We went on the ghost bus and it was SO MUCH FUN! Thankfully, no children were allowed on this particular tour. You start out in their ticketing office which has a beer and wine bar. You can take alcohol on the bus that is purchased on site. The tour is done by a theatrical group--some of whom ride on the bus, and others who conveniently appear at each bus stop. It's all quite campy, and very, very funny. We have a lewd sense of humor so we loved it.”

“We are visiting the Asheville area, we couldn’t find any good restaurants in the area! We stumbled across Fahrenheit Pizza on Google! They have the best pizza I’ve ever tasted! Their wings were amazing and so were the garlic knots and salad! The cannolis were my absolute FAVORITE!!! The service was phenomenal! Everything was great and fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area, and even if you are not in the area it is 100% worth the drive!”

“I have a birthday coming up and for my pre-birthday dinner, I wanted to try a place we hadn't tried before, so I chose Vivian. I had read about Chef/Owner Josiah McGaughey being a James Beard Award Best Chef nominee and I'd heard good things about it from friends who'd dined there, so I went in with high expectations ... and I was not disappointed. The menu is fairly small, as is the restaurant itself, which is fine with me. I'd rather have a choice from among a few things done incredibly well than a bunch of choices from an array of mediocre offerings. We started with the Siano Burrata as an appetizer, and it was a great beginning to a fine evening. For entrees, my wife had the Pan Seared Wreckfish and I had the Roasted Rack of Lamb. My wife hadn't tried wreckfish before, and she said it was excellent. My lamb was cooked just right, perfectly seasoned, and served over a delicious mushroom risotto. The presentation was impressive, and the portion sizes were just right ... we left full, but not in belt-busting discomfort. For dessert, we shared Peaches & Cream, featuring brandy-soaked peaches ... awesome! The service was great. Ciaran took care of us and was attentive without being intrusive. We had a table at a window in the small main dining room. The interior is austere, but it's pleasant and has a nice vibe to it. All-in-all, I give Vivian an "A" ... we're really lucky to have such an incredible culinary scene in Asheville. I look forward to dining at Vivian again ... soon.”

“Beautiful room n a beautiful hotel - loved our meals. Only drawback is if you are staying off property you have to pay 80 bucks for each person to buy a day pass to get onto the grounds, I feel if you have a reservation they should wave that fee. If we would have been able to spend the day on the grounds, I wouldn't mind but we only arrived in Ashville a few hours before dinner.”

“Pretty good food Dined outside. I got the brisket with slaw and chips. Hubby got the chicken salad sandwich (it was really good...had a curry seasoning in the chicken salad)... Brisket was good and tender....slaw was good bit was only about a teaspoon. Kind of stingy with that. Had to ask for ranch with the homefried chips but not a huge deal. All n all reasonable prices for decent food.”

“As a bar it's pretty cool. Bartender was awesome and atmosphere is great. If you found it like I did and expected a museum-ish display of werid things in the bar, you will be disappointed. There is a bunch if cool stuff but it's just random things. To sum up great bar , terrible roadside attraction. Loved it none the less.”

“Urban orchard was a nice cidery in the middle of a craft beer haven. Inside is a large space - plenty of seating and some games, too. They offer a good variety of ciders and guests can create a custom flight which I appreciate. We each ordered a flight and were able to sample many flavors between the three of us. All were solid ciders. No dogs in the mix. The day we were there they had several fun 80s song-themed offerings. The bartender was friendly and even brought us an extra sample of his favorite - the Diablo, a unique cider with kick of habanero. We especially liked the Breakfast Club, the ginger cider, Bizarre Love Triangle, and Blue Monday. A worthy stop on your beer tour if you love ciders, too!”

“Of course the view cannot be beat. The food is cooked to perfection. I ordered the salmon with a citrus crust and it was perfect. My husband had the shrimp scampi and said it was excellent. Our waitress, Alexandra?, was friendly and professional.”

“So many hard-to-find beers here! My husband is a bit of a beer connoisseur and he's been on the hunt for harder to come by beers. He was stoked they had quite a few he's been wanting to try. Pretty much everything they offered was more on the "rare" side and they did not carry many of the typical local breweries. That's not really what this place is about (you can go literally anywhere else in Asheville for that lol). For gluten free folks they had some ciders and mead you could buy in bottles/cans. I don't recall them having any on tap.If you're wanting to make a six pack they have a huge binder of drinks to choose from. They also had a lot on tap. The place itself was really cool. I loved all the plants and the whale skeleton was a neat touch. It felt very unique and the people who worked there were very nice. We will definitely be back next time we go to Asheville!”

“This place was fun and tickled my brains nostalgia center, playing Pac Man and Qbert. Their pinball machines are all Stern, with a good variety of different pinball experiences like Foo Fighters, the Shadow, Simpsons, Batman (70s TV) and many more. They had a ton of beer choices and some pre-mixed drinks. I liked the Ultimate Margerita with Cuervo 1800 but they also had Diet Coke if you are parched. The bathrooms are clean and it is kid-friendly during the day. The cover charge is $10 per person but they give you a wrist band so you can come back if you want to take a break. Fun little pinball joint with a side of funky.”

“Don't go if you have high standards. This is a dive bar in all the good ways (apart from not serving food). If you want to hang out and get drunk in a questionable hard rock alternative lifestyle sort of setting this is a great place to be.”

“It has been such a long time that we have had a great tasting breakfast like this one. Perfectly cooked eggs.Shrimp and grits to die for.My wife’s veggie omelet was great .And even better was Jennifer our server she is amazing.Take the extra time to eat here.”

“My husband and I are not big beer drinkers so we decided to try this hard cider place. We shared a flight, liked everything we tried except one. Played one of the games while we sipped and bounced to the 90s hip hop music :) It was very quiet on a Friday night. Just the two of us and then another couple came before it closed. Heard they have a trivia night, sounds like fun but we’re only in town for a couple days”

“Absolutely loved this place!! The owner personally greeted us. Our cocktails were amazing, and the cigar selection was extensive. The decor is exactly what a cigar lounge should be. They were super accommodating to our dog. We cannot wait to come back again.”

“Rosetta's will always have a special place in my heart. It's not the best vegan food you'll ever have but it is still just good solid soul food that hits the spot. Classics include the Family Favorite (greens, peanut butter tofu, mashed potatoes & gravy), cornbread, tempeh reuben. There are a lot of healthy options like the Buddha bowl, Bellyful, etc. Nice shaded patio outside at their new place. Appreciate that everybody eats. You just feel warm and nourished after you eat here.”

“Chris and Crew were Amazing! They catered our son's rehearsal/ welcome party, we had 75 guests. We searched for mobile pizza in our area by going and trying the pizza at a couple pizza places. Tin Can Pizzeria rose quickly to the top. We were not disappointed. The service was friendly, dependable and professional. The food was soooo delicious”

“My group just got some drinks here, but we were in town and saw this as an option, and I'm so glad we stopped in! There's a crazy large selection of games for people of all ages, as well as games with time requirements from 10 minutes to an hour and a half. It's definitely a great place to try some new games out. I personally strongly recommend Once Upon a Time to anyone in a larger group, trust me, it's going to be a ton of fun. Everyone there was super nice when we were ordering and needed help finding games, just a great place to check out, whether you're from town or not!”

“Get the burger!!! Came for dinner on national burger day and they did not disappoint! The house salad is amazing!! They use local greens and a house made vinaigrette. The service was excellent. Down to earth people with personalities not robots. Our drinks were top notch as well! 10/10 Definitely coming ”

“Dive bar at its finest but what comes out of the kitchen is anything but what you'd expect from looking at it. Amazing! We got a tip from a local food truck guy (Smokee's Pizza - also awesome) to give this place a try. The beer selection was great and the food blew us away. Loved, loved Little Louie's!”

“There are not enough superlatives to describe how fantastic this place is! Flavor profiles that are unique and fresh, and a staff that is welcoming and warm. We had the Thai Buffalo Chicken sandwich with the cucumber salad, the Trout Melt, and something that is a must have, the Feta Fries. Everything was delicious from the first bite to the last!”

“Dirty Jack's is Green Man Brewery's tasting room. They have a great indoor space, as well as some seating outdoors. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and their beers were pretty good. They also sponsor a bunch of local men's soccer teams too, who frequent the facility.”

“Nice place. Really comfortable. Good beer and wine selection. Coffee looked good also. I’m giving it a high rating because of the fiddle player who plays there on Wednesday night. He’s outstanding. I’m we planned on 20 minutes and stayed 2 hours. Unexpectedly great ”

“Offers a large variety of favored classic Mexican dishes. Food came out quickly, and the portion sizes were very filling and very economically priced. Delicious food and a full service bar. They also have a salsa buffet, though a bit unsightly, offering several different styles of salsa. All were good.”

“A hidden gem of Asheville. Dog friendly with a host of local dog miscreants. Have a drink, enjoy some art and music. When you get hungry head right outside for some incredible Cuban food from a great family. Great Wild Nowhere is a family and loves bringing new members into the fold (not a cult..... kinda). Andy is an incredible artist and has spent countless hours turning the space into one of the few actually unique places in Asheville. So come join us! (Not a cult.... mostly)”

“OMG. The perfect summer beers. Saison for me and a hazy for my wife after a 3 hour hot glass workshop at Carolina Glass across the street. There is a reason these beers exist. This summer proved it. Thank you, ladies of Wedge, for saving me.”

“A solid bar located in the middle of west Asheville. Since they don't serve food, you have to check in or sign up for a membership upon entering which is the easiest thing to do. Just take out your ID, enter your phone number, and you're all set. We decided to stop by on a Friday evening after grabbing some togo food nearby. I think my favorite thing about this bar is their ... you're cool, then we're cool attitude. We were able to bring our food and dog inside while enjoying a few beverages. They have a full bar, drafts to choose from, and even some slushy drinks. Three drinks later, and our bar tab was a bit cheaper than I was expected! Score! They have a large outdoor space, lots of seating inside, two lots for parking and even some extra street parking nearby!”

“I stopped by Asheville Guitar Bar during my recent visit to Asheville and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of my trip. It's a cozy, eclectic space with a friendly and welcoming crowd, which meant a lot as a solo traveler. The 40, 20, 10's band was so good, and it was fun to see the owner Mark get up and play harmonica with them. So glad to have stumbled on this musical gem.”

“This was my first time to a Kava bar. I was greeted by Sin, who was not only informative but patient and kind to me. He made me feel really comfortable there, and ensured I had the best experience. The vibe was nice and I enjoyed the eclectic decor. I really enjoyed my experience and will def return. Thank youDietary restrictions: I have food allergies and take medication. The man who served me (Sin) was caring and assisted with all my inquires. The other workers were also welcoming and helpful.”

“Talked with the owner Amber whole time we were there, she's awesome! My wife and her hit it off and had the same taste. The Cheladas are awesome, get the Poblano and add Mezcal! Amber's take on an Espresso Martini is best we've ever had, she makes a simple syrup involving cinnamon, star anise, clove, and more I forget, don't miss this spot if you're around Asheville”

“This place was so unique and quaint. I loved trying the cider flights, and the cheese was a large size. In my experience with charcuterie boards, the cheese size you get is small, but this was large! The inside was cute, and sweet little outdoor tables too! The women's bathroom had opera music which was a bit humorous, and lovely. The server was very personable and lovely! I would come back!”

4.7Superb46 Reviews

“This place is so cool! It's a bar, cafe, record & print shop all in one. I feel like I could of hung out there for a while! It's a casual place, where you go order at the register and grab a table while you wait for your food. Everyone in my group was happy with their choices, we tried about half the menu! Def recommend stopping in while walking around Asheville for a casual bite and some light shopping!”

4.7Superb45 Reviews

“Please note, despite the name, they don't serve burgers or any restaurant food. They only have snacks. That aside, this is my favorite "dive bar". I'm an old punk rocker from the 80s and I've found a place I feel at home when I visit Asheville. The staff slings great drinks, but won't suffer fools kindly which has fostered a sold flow of regulars. So if you're a looky-loo who plans to start sh!t, move along my friend. If y'all visit in the afternoon and you're blessed to have Jax behind the bar, tip her well, bask in her warm smile and tell her Mindy sent ya.”

“We drove in from Greenville SC for the Beer Tour on how they make/store/package there local beer. We had Liz Suggs as our Tour Guide. She was very knowledgeable of the beer/fermentation process. We were also able to sample the beers. We only got the fries to eat but they were AWESOME!! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Love the roof top seating area. Just around the corner from all the shopping. Great day trip.”

“I recently had the pleasure of visiting a local bar and was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the friendly staff. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy, with a great selection of music playing in the background. As for the drinks, the bartenders were true mixologists and prepared some of the most delicious cocktails I've ever had. The menu was diverse and had something for everyone, whether you prefer a classic cocktail or something a little more experimental.”

“Neat little place! We needed a place to hang out until our Air B&B was ready. While it's odd to have a bar at a gas station, the backyard area was awesome. It's fenced in and there wasn't much of a crowd, so we could let our dog off leash for a bit & he had a ball! Most drinks were $4 & they even had a good berry seltzer!”

“Make sure to visit this amazing hookah lounge and restaurant. They have great service here and everyone is so prompt and we had delicious food on top of some quality service. Thank you for this treat! We had Annie and she was the best server, her energy was on par. Thank you so much for having her. What a classy person and stylish! Go Annie!!!!!”

“We were skeptical because of the location within a Holiday Inn. But what a meal! The food was truly excellent. The steaks were perfect. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was quiet. Woodfire highly exceeded our expectations and we look forward to dining there again.”

“Friendly staff, great food, good price, what more can you want. I partially recommend the ay caramba salad. It is rare that I make a full meal out of a salad because I workout and have a huge appetite. However the ay caramba salad is packed with veggies and protein and is a complete meal”

“Where to begin? This neo-Victorian, folk-gothic bar features stunning antiques & art. Two upright pianos, laden with books; books & hideway spots to get cozy; bar seating, tables, & stools. With over 600 whiskeys & more than 1,000 spirits (including some difficult to find, as well as a few no longer produced) there is something for everyone. Friendly & knowledgeable mixologists make this place stand out. Some delicious bar snacks & a decent supply of board games make this a place to hunker down & stay for a while. Frequent live music & themed events. They also offer cocktail classes (see their website for details). An insanely-awesome patio/smoking area out back offers privacy & more coziness. Most of the establishment is wheelchair accessible, sans the patio. Another plus? Two gender-neutral washrooms. Hands down, this half-hidden Poe-esque bar is not to be missed.Parking: Street, lot, & garage parking nearby. Street parking is free in the evenings.”

“Nice tucked away spot with some stellar staff. Awkward location but at least there's parking and it's not busy. So that's a win. Came in last night and begged the staff to change the tv to the soccer game. They were absolutely accommodating. Only changes I'd make is a tv outside and open later than 9 but that's me being picky ;)The wine was a nice pour but I did not love the rose. It's always a hit or miss. Sad I didn't have time to try the seltzer. Forgot they make them now and I've been wanting to try. Heard mixed reviews. The beer was a delight- the wit. Clean spot with a good array of menu options. Nice patio and space for dates and groups.”

“First of all, I'm very thankful to have a venue like Rabbit Rabbit in my town, but it's kinda crazy that the vip section is so far from the stage considering how much it costs. Also, there is no slope towards the stage, so if you're short, you won't see the show unless you get on the very front row. The restrooms were nice and clean when I was there. The food trucks were awesome. The sound was great. I'm not against the standing room only thing, but they should've laid it out a little differently.”

“I had my proposal after-party here and the very kind people at Little Jumbo were very accommodating! They reserved a space for us, set out a sign congratulating us, and were very hospitable to make sure we had an excellent time with our friends. The vibes in this place are one-of-a-kind in the area and I highly recommend a visit, special occasion or not!”

“Awesome place to grab an amazing craft cocktail. Their selection of Mezcals is spectacular, almost every varietal of Agave represented. Thimble is an artisan and knowledgeable mixologist. We felt very welcomed by the whole staff. Recommend the Spitting Devil & Two Shakes of a Lambs tail! We will be back!”

“I was VERY pleasantly surprised at just how good the seafood is here! "Seafood with a touch of Mexican" is the best way to describe this hidden gem in Leicester NC.We were a party of 11, and our waiter Omar was NEVER flustered, even with 5 demanding children!Everything we all ordered was absolutely DELICIOUS! Their scallop boil is to die for! I have never had such amazing scallops! The flavor was on point and they were so tender, they almost melted in your mouth!I SWEAR they make the best hush puppies as well! The catfish was perfectly seasoned. The "Momma's Rice" was such a delicious side - it has corn and carrots with a lovely seasoning mixed in.They even have raw oysters folks! You just can't go wrong here!”

“They state that the bar and grill is, "cozy and quirky".... and it was. Traveling through Asheville NC, we met friends and the ladies decided to do a lunch and some thrift shopping. We found a place in West Asheville that was really fun. DeSoto Lounge was small, eclectic, and had a reasonably priced brunch menu. Dogs are allowed at the outside seating area. We split a club sandwich with a salad, chips. The food was fine, it was the music and atmosphere which was the step back into the '70's. The entire area was filled with vintage clothing stores, crystal/rock shops and other reto pubs. Quite an ecclect experience.”

“A group of friends and I decided to stop into the great hall bar for a drink and to take in the beautiful view that Omni Grove Park Inn has to offer. The indoor area is beautiful with their two massive fireplaces with rocking chairs surrounding. If we had come during the winter months this would be where you could find me with a glass of wine and book in hand. They also had plenty of other seating inside so we weren't grappling for a table. Once we sat down we ordered a round of wine/cocktails and my husband and I shared the bourbon and banana pudding. Hands down one of the best banana puddings we have ever had. It has thick, creamy layers of banana pudding mousse, white chocolate whipped cream, bourbon caramel, and caramel crisps served with a side of nilla wafers. Because it was a warmer day we decided to sit outside to finish our drinks and take in the views. I cant think of a more relaxing, breathtaking spot to have a drink and to just chill. This spot should be on everyone's list when taking a trip to Asheville!”

“Design out front probably describes this place as "The World Famous Root Bar," though I must profess that I have never heard of this place. Still, it is a pretty cool place where the drinks are cold and served with a warm smile. If you find yourself in this section of the world, come check out this world famous bar. Or at least, they like to think of themselves as world famous. Either way, it is a pretty cool place.”
