Huli Sue's BBQ and Grill Reviews
On Saturday, February 14th, I went downtown for a solo dinner at Huli Sue’s and quickly realized I had completely forgotten Billy Strings was in town for the weekend. Between Valentine’s Day and a sold-out show within walking distance, downtown was absolute chaos.

Huli Sue’s in Asheville has quickly become one of my favorite spots downtown, and a big part of that is their fantastic bar. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and laid‑back, making it an easy place to settle in for a drink before or after a meal.

Huli Sue's BBQ and Grill offers a mixed dining experience. The fried baby back ribs appetizer and Ahi Tuna Nachos stood out as excellent. The poke nachos, sample plate, and Huli Sue Chicken were all fresh and delicious. The restaurant also serves great dishes like Sue's Huli Chicken bowl with perfectly marinated, grilled, juicy chicken breast, and the brisket is top tier, super tender and flavorful. The bowls with rice and mac salad are highly recommended.
The staff is attentive, and the atmosphere is vibrant and inviting. Customers praise the generous portion sizes, perfect for sharing. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of drinks, including a fantastic Mai Tai and a nice beer selection, with delicious cocktails.
Reviewers highlight the incredible friendly staff, warm unassuming location, and amazing aroma. The food portions are generous, and the flavors are exceptional, particularly the chicken and shrimp combo platter. The pulled pork plate and ribs are also standouts, with the BBQ sauces being spot on. The coconut cake is moist and delicious, with wonderful toasted coconut. Customers are greeted promptly and served by knowledgeable waitstaff who guide them through the menu. The space is bright and open, allowing guests to observe the kitchen and bar. The restaurant's Hurricane fries, Hawaiian bowl, and Smokehouse salad are also praised as delicious. Overall, Huli Sue's provides a five-star dining experience at a very reasonable price, making it a great choice for both locals and tourists.
