On a Friday, I had taken off work and decided I wanted to surprise the wife with lunch. We had been wanting Jamaican food for a few years, now. Since we had been dissatisfied with the last time we had some Jamaican food at a community event a few years ago, and we had given up hope. Then I saw the posts for ISLAND PAN in the mall and decided to grab some for our lunch yesterday at 12:30.First off, I asked for the Curry Goat as I love a good goat curry. Unfortunately, they only had Chicken Curry. The curry was an umami bomb but had 0 spice. I got yellow rice and mac n cheese, which were both flavorful and pasta was not overcooked. The curry sauce had invaded the Mac n cheese, but it made it even better than without it. I ordered the Jerk Chicken for her, with rice and peas and plantains. The jerk chicken was well seasoned and just sweet enough, but it wasn't spicy at all. Rice was not mushy, peas fully cooked and great with the sauce drizzled on it. Plantains were OK, but we may be spoiled from our island vacations, as they weren't anything special.I ordered a beef patty and coco bread, but no coc bread was available. I ordered the cheese patty, but it was not available as well, so I settled on 2 beef patties. I'm not sure if I lucked out or not, but those beef patties were the best thing we ate. A spicy ground beef mixture encased in a flakey crust that was a 10/10 for us.The magic markered food prices weren't what was shown on the internet but I'm fine with that because food costs. The biggest issue we had was food not being available, but for $15-20/person, we will 100% definitely be back because the portions are enough for 2-3 meals. I'll get the oxtail next time and hopefully the goat curry.7.5/10

I love the food this place has to offer. It is very popular and a rare offering in Asheville so they have been out of something I wanted on one visit. Its in a mall food court so not big on ambiance but the court has plenty of seating and people cleaning tables all the time. I have had all of the sides and the BBQ chicken and oxtail. In six visits I've never been disappointed.

this place was absolutely terrible and it’s crazy cause as I was ordering I was being told don’t get their food because it’s nasty but I tried to have faith in them… I got oxtails and it was nothing but fat….then he was stingy with the servings and had the nerve and try to be funny. I will not be back if anything I will learn to make oxtails and cook them at home.

i got curry goat and the jerk chicken with yellow rice and cabbage , i also got coco bread , and a beef patty... everything is absolutely amazing. The beef patty was buttery and flaky and creamy, and a little bit of spicy ... and the curry goat was so tender. It melted in your mouth.

Island Pan is, hands down, the best food in the AVL Mall Food Court! It's real food, not processed. We had the curry chicken; our fiend ordered the jerk chicken. The curry chicken is so delicious; the perfect amount of heat. Our friend loved the spiciness of the jerk chicken. Plates come with 2 sides. We chose yellow rice & [cooked] cabbage. Our friend chose yellow rice, cabbage & yams (I believe he paid extra for the third side). All delicious. They give you a lot of food, making it a good value. No intestinal upset afterwards; so, for me, it's the healthiest choice in the food court. Service is sweet, too. Enjoy! (I gave 5 stars for atmosphere because I did not wish to hurt Island Pan's overall score. I'd give the Food Court a 2, though.)
