The food and service are always amazing! It's one of our favorite restaurants in Asheville!
I have been going to Modesto for many many years. This last visit with friends the menu selections seemed to have changed. My monkfish and scallops were grilled with little relationship to the rest of the dish which was very good. The Caprese salad with the addition of the prosciutto ham was very good. The server suggestion of the Barolo was right on.
My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at Modesto. It was our first time dining at this downtown Asheville restaurant and we are already planning to return with friends. Dining in privacy, though, is not possible inside the restaurant. The seating arrangements are anything but romantic or exclusive (tables are set very close to each other - to the point that it was nearly impossible to hold a private conversation). There are outdoor tables available which may be seasonally used for a more quiet or private dining experience. It was chilly on the night we visited, so we chose to dine indoors. The specials menu alone is incredible. Combined with the regular menu offers, it's easy to succumb to sensory overload (in a really great way!). We both agreed that the lamb rib chops we ordered (from the special list) were among the best-prepared that we've enjoyed in years. The lump crab ravioli with seared scallops was also amazing. We look forward to returning to try one of the delectable pizza recipes, salads, and many more seafood-based entrees. AND - we were informed by our waitress that Modesto is about to open two new restaurants in Asheville named 1) Chorizo and 2) Salsa. If the same chef(s) who were responsible for our delicious dinner have anything to do with the menu at the upcoming restaurants, it's going to be pleasantly difficult decision deciding which of their restaurants to dine at!
The shiitake onion soup was the best soup I think I've ever tasted. However, the mushroom pasta was not very interesting. A few of the mushrooms and possibly leaks? Or onions that had been grilled tasted as if they had liquid smoke on them. Overly smoky and fake tasting. But the service was great, the martini was wonderful, and you must get the soup.
This was a very nice experience overall. Really good food, very nice server and a fun and lively vibe. Definitely recommend it.
The specials included three softshell crab dishes. The Table had 2 and they were great. Another special was the North Carolina Flounder. Another winner dish. Ordering a Special or from the menu, expect an excellent meal.
This restaurant has really gone down hill. The service was not good. The food used to be wonderful but now it is marginal. Not recommended.
Very nice evening. Good food, beautiful presentation. Good drinks. All in all, glad to go back again.
Everything we ordered was wonderful but the crab cakes were to die for! 10/10! Service is amazing and the employees can't be beat.
The best service, most delicious lime soda custom made with just a touch of simple sugar( I’m diabetic). Several delicious salads suitable for brunch (with a fried egg on top)
Felt like I could have been sitting at bistro in France. or Italy. Highly recommend.

Aside from the iced tea and service, the food was subpar and flavorless. The shrimp scampi was overcooked and the sauce had a watery consistency. So disappointing given that most reviews were positive. The Grecco pizza made up for the scampi and it reheated well that same night. I wouldn’t recommend at all.

Just not great maybe I ordered the wrong Thing. I ordered Waygu meatballs and pasta. Dish was not as explained on the menu. When I was leaving I reread the menu. I was not given what I ordered even on the second try.

I had such high expectations for a post valentine's dinner with my husband but our dinner got cut short due to me having an awful headache that I was trying to fight just fully take over. Sarah, our server was incredibly sensitive and got us out of there super fast. I was embarrassed but do grateful to her being so kind. Will return on another time. Also, thank you to the chef for making my pasta exactly what I was looking for!

This is the best Italian restaurant in Asheville, dare I say the best restaurant. I dare. This is where I send visitors, chef Hector Diaz is the man, the myth, the legend. Asheville is truly lucky to have such a strong restauranteur with a juggernaut of a portfolio. Cafe bamba provides excellent brunch options, salsa has the freshest Latin food I've ever eaten and soon charizos will be back. I can't wait. Get some of his hot sauce. The lunch menu is super affordable and I suggest the burger. For dinner I love the bolognese and anything seafood. The calamari is top notch. If you don't get a bottle of his hot sauce did you really eat at a Hector Diaz restaurant?
Parking: The street parking is free after 6 or the parking garage is free the first hour.
