The food was a major disappointment. Plates were overloaded, greasy, and even had burnt parts. We could literally see the fat, yet the dishes still had no flavor. Overall, poorly prepared and not worth it.
Too close for comfort, guest on top of guests, too many tables in an already small space. A problem when the best seat in the house is sitting at their 5 stool bar. Clearly the chef is not doing more with less, forgot about restaurant 101 take care of your guests or someone else will
We made a same day reservation, availability 7:45 on a Saturday night should have been my first flag. We were seated pleasantly & promptly in this “intimate trattoria.” Tables are so close, staff has to turn sideways between the two tops to great you. Waitress was pleasant but as she was describing the menu, “the chefs interpretation” seemed to be the overarching theme.” For us the classics just didn’t work with heavy vegetables on top, personally the meat sauce was heavy handed with veal. Grouper cheeks were fresh but over sauced and still puddled as i made my way through half. As for recommendations the bread was the standout, full stop. The closeness of the tables was NYC steakhouse close, really made it tough to enjoy the company you were with. Tack on $40 pp sir charge if you cancel inside of 24hrs of your reservation window. (Or no show, the latter certainly warranted, add another 3% for cc. processing and-there you have it. Lots of wonderful culinary options in AVL, hope your experience is more positive one.
My experience here was very good. Except this is the second time I have ordered some fish that was encrusted. Or it said so on the menu and then it was served grilled. And I’m just thinking maybe chefs don’t know what the word encrusted means anymore. I did order the oysters, dinner was delicious. But my fish certainly was not encrusted in peppercorns like the special said. A little false advertising. I didn’t eat it all. I took it to go. Wishing there was a crust somewhere.
Great food great service . Crabcakes are phenomenal !!!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Asheville and has been for a while. The food is always amazing with so much variety. The specials list is also usually interesting and good. We Had a great as per usual, and great service. We got sat but didn't get menus until about 10 mins later, but it was busy. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal again. The one thing that seemed a little different was the grilled romaine. Its a go to for us. Its pretty consistent, but this time it was just a bit soggy, we still enjoyed it but not up to par. Had great wine and a wonderful cocktail called the God father! Highly recommend his place... the food is a flavor sensation and so many good choices.
Great food, wine and service! I had the eggplant parmigiana, which was delectable! My husband had the mushroom lasagna (forgot the name), which he enjoyed. The house Chianti was nice, as well. We made reservations for a weekend trip. Highly recommend and will return!
Just a beautiful quaint gem. The food was simply amazing and portions were substantial. The service was very quick and attentive. Pizzas are large so can be shared.
not worth the money! food was blah or too much - not balanced at all. The food tastes like it was supposed to be italian, but made by someone who wanted it to taste like central american cuisine. The place even stunk like old fish. Should've left right when we walked in.
Wonderful lunch ..I had fish and chips and hubby had bolognese..our waiter was very knowledgeable about menu..He suggested bread and olive oil to start the best starter bread I have ever had. Food was beyond delicious and perfectly cooked to order. Finished with titamiau and latte..could not have asked for a better meal as we landed in ashevillle! Highly recommend for lunch!

Always a wonderful meal at Modesto's. The lunch menu is extensive and very well priced . I don't usually rave about pizza, but there's is the best. Highly recommend this place
This place was amazing. Our server (Kevin) was attentive and so kind. The food was absolutely incredible, as well as the drinks. We'll definitely be coming back next time we're in town!
First time at Modesto, busy Saturday night. My reservation was honored at the booked time. Server was incredible. She described the specials and answered prep questions. The food is creative and not what you are used to at typical red sauce spots. Enjoyed a very fairly priced Barolo and the fig cheesecake was different and excellent. Do not miss this Trattoria
My wife and I went to Asheville NC for a few days to enjoy the change of leafs of autumn. We asked at our hotel what was a good place to have some pizza and guy suggested Luminosa. We were able to seat at the bar without a reservation. The waiter suggested the lemon pizza but we decided for the margarita and the mortadella with fig and pickled onions one. We found the mortadella one to be better than the margarita. The next day walking around town saw Modesto Trattoria. We saw in their menu they had pizza so we decided to try it and compare. The margarita was amazing! The dough was delicious and they have a dipping oil with roasted garlic and rosemary that was delicious. Also we had the bolognese pasta with 3 meats, AMAZING! The flavors were delicate and tasty. The best Italian in Asheville!
Service and all of that was good. Pizza didn't have the cheese melted. You literally could see the shredded cheese on top, not melted. We did the Cabanara (which wasn't good either. They do their own take on it and isn't traditional. Not seasoned well) and the Italiano pizza. Don't recommend if you're a foody wanting good Italian.
