Was so hard to choose which pastry to get as they all looked good, but I ended up going classic croissant. Was super packed for a Friday morning so I imagine theyve got a great reputation. Very cozy inside, but it looks like they have a lot more public seating out back. We wanted to order a PSL for our fall festivities but they instead offered us a twist on pumpkin with a 'squash latte' annnd honestly I can understand trying a new flavor but it wasn't a hit š love the creativity though

There are many reviews here about the pastries, which are fantastic, and I wanted to give a shout out to the breads. Some standard breads there every day, some for certain days of the week, some special featured ones, they're all delicious, I don't think I've had one that's a miss. The photos here show a number of breads over the past couple of years, plus an almond croissant.
The breads are always well-hydrated, moist enough that you don't necessarily need to add butter or oil (although those are great). Well-raised sourdough, with complex sourdough flavors that aren't overwhelming. They're expensive, yes, and some of them are on the small side. I love that the breads are made with locally stone milled, mostly locally or regionally grown and heirloom grains. I think my favorite is the einkorn bread, but I'll take any of them!
I understand the many reviews about the service issues - for years I've braced myself every time I go in, because most of the time there was at least one person who seemed unhappy to have to interact with customers. I went in this week to a pleasant surprise - people behind the counter who I don't think I'd seen before who acted like you'd expect, friendly enough!
Been to Paris and had the pastry selection there and these are every bit as good! Definitely a must try. Price is more than over there but very very good.

Must get cardamom buns! Thereās no way to explain it besides saying itās a combination of a cinnamon roll, croissant, and thick bread all covered in a mildly sweet, cardamom sauce.
The texture is unbelievable, and the flavor is slightly subtle but noticeable. The sweetness is just enough for you to understand that itās a sweet pastry.

Never once had good service here. Their employees look and act like they hate me and their jobs. Good pastries though. Probably not going back anymore.

Iāve never been anywhere that had pastries twice as expensive as anywhere in Asheville but half the quality. 8-10$ for a croissant is absurd. They arenāt even good and there is hardly any almonds or chocolate in them. Coffee was 5$ for drip and the lids and cups donāt match well so I ruined a new shirt when it leaked out. This was a first and last time here unfortunately. Also the 2 people working were less than friendly which kind of ruined the experience.

Absolutely delicious pastries. Service was good. Small dine in area with some outside seating as well. Coffee wasn't very good.

Person on the register seemed bothered that I even came in. Also they have it so no one answers the phone if you call

Great place for unique and healthy breads. Go early, they run out
I love Owl. Iāve been coming here for over five years, and through that time two things have remained the same: the pastry is phenomenal, and the service by one employee is painful. It truly hurts me to walk into a place Iām so excited for, get to pick out a lovely and gorgeous pastry, and then be greeted with extreme distain. Having asked several other locals, this experience is universal with this one particular employee. I understand having worked here for years, through a pandemic and more, but I can no longer chalk it up to a hard day / time in life. The service has stayed contemptuous for years on end and I do not feel welcome at this location when they are working. This does not go for ANY other of Owl's amazing employees.

Having lived in West Asheville for some time, I feel disappointed to be leaving this review. OWL, on a weekday, is great- great bread, calm atmosphere, good service. On a weekend, however, good luck finding anything but great bread and bakery products. Every time I have been here on the weekend, it has been a nightmare. The only consistency is how consistent they can be on giving out Incorrect orders- drink service or bakery goods to their own economic advantage. My final straw is presenting a gifted gift card that they couldnāt even figure out how to use. I will no longer be introducing out visitors to OWL. I will no longer be ordering any holiday goods. I will (maybe) finish using this gift card on a Wednesday for a final baguette and say good bye to this place. Not. Worth. It.

I got an iced mocha in the bright early morning when it was busy and the customer service was stellar despite the rush-hour. Coffee was Amazing despite being a bakery first. I do believe they use methodical coffee based out of Greenville and I have always loved your coffee choices!
