Showed up randomly because I wanted some coffee, i didn’t order any food but it was nice and mellow, WiFi a bathroom and free water. It was nice and quiet, I liked it here and the Iced caramel latte was cool.

PennyCup Coffee North is a fantastic neighborhood coffee spot that consistently delivers excellent quality. The coffee is rich, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with care, whether you’re grabbing a classic drip or a thoughtfully made espresso drink. What really elevates the experience is the friendly, welcoming staff—they’re knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely happy to help you find something you’ll enjoy. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back regularly, not just for the coffee, but for the atmosphere and people too.

The woman working this morning (with the yellow hair!) was a powerhouse. With the line out the door she was consistently cool, calm and collected. The jasmine green tea I ordered was served in a BIG tea bag with whole leaves 😍 the Mediterranean bagel was fresh and DELICIOUS. 10/10 would recommend and also give that woman a raise. She was phenomenal.

This is my third visit, all of them on weekdays, late morning to afternoon. The espresso beans & roast are excellent. I always get a pistachio latte because it's subtly nutty and not too sweet.
I look forward to my visits. It's very pleasant in simple ways. The people are uniformly kind, unassuming, helpful. The mix of armchairs, tables & chairs, counters & stools etc are no-frill work spaces. Some outdoor seating out back also.
I feel free to just be myself and be here for as long as I like. I can hear/feel myself think; maybe it's an introspective space?
The music is unpredictable in a good way. It's on low enough that I can enjoy it, or not, and it doesn't intrude.

Being new to the area, I have been trying out different coffeehouses close to home. This place exceeds my expectations. I’m always greeted by a friendly barista and never feel rushed to get my order in. The iced Northside is my favorite along with their cookies. My new go to place 💗

Unfortunately we went to this location earlier this week and the service was quite bad. We were at the counter waiting for our order to be taken- we were the only ones in line. One employee was making coffee and the other was cleaning out dirty dishes behind the counter. We waited for at least a full minute before being helped or acknowledged. I did not want to interrupt as I have worked in the service industry and employees are busy. The employee finally that took our order was the one cleaning out dirty dishes and had cream cheese and food on his hands from doing so. We watched him load dirty dishes from the black tub into the sink but what was really upsetting was he DID NOT wash his hands and had actively dirty hands to make our coffee. In hindsight I should have kindly asked him to get us new cups and to wash his hands before serving us but I did not. That experience grossed us out. We sat in the cafe and watched two other women leave the cafe after waiting in a two person line as no one was acknowledging them either to take an order- again, it was not busy and was 3pm in the afternoon, not peak time and they were the only ones in line. Coffee itself was okay, we liked the lavender coffee.

Low key with quite service.
Setting is not good.
Server was quite, but seems nice.
I was charged $4.28 for a 12 Oz coffee with a refill.
Overall, can't really find any positives about this coffee shop other than its maybe the only shop in North Asheville.

today we stopped in the get coffee and cookie... the barista was so unfriendly, we looked at each other in disbelief. Plus, worst of all, I asked for decaf and I can tell that is not what I got. I am highly sensitive to caffeine...Unfortunately, my husband picked up the drinks and didn't confirm it was decaf. Very disappointed,
the san Antonio blend is the absolute best whole bean coffee i have bought for my home brew espresso. im going to be getting autoship every 2 weeks. I can already see it.
I don't often provide a 5 star review, but pennycup more than deserves it.
More often than not, I'm somebody that gets a fruity drink or a tea over a coffee, but the YMI kills it! It's so good that I'm actually stopping by for coffee! The overall space itself is arguably small, but cute! Staff have been friendly and very quick each time I've gone!

One of my favorite coffee places in town!!! I’ve been coming here for years… Best lattés ever, “The Northside” is my go-to with lavender and honey with oat milk and it’s a dream. SO DELISH! I’m also a huge fan of their bagels with Lox and I like adding cucumber. I’ll be a regular as long as they're there! Definitely check this place out :)
