Delicious menu items, I opted for the Hot & Sour soup with the vegetarian dumplings, fried rice, edamame, tuna tataki and chicken wings. They were all good options and it is the type of restaurant you can buy and split among the table. My kids really enjoyed it too.

Delish! I love dim sum so much and our other option in Asheville was closed so a store owner recommended this place. Clean. Simple. Quality food!

Red Ginger is in my permanent NO list. Who serves chicken and beef dishes without rice???
We ordered take out & of course by the time we cooked our own rice everything was cold. Neither dish was good anyway (flavorless) and the pot stickers were grocery store freezer section quality.
If I want crappy Asian food I'll get Panda Express for half the cost and that'll include rice.

We are frequent diners of Red Ginger since 2020 as it came highly recommended! I bring my service dog with me each time and not once has it been an issue. My wife is a long time lover of Asian cuisine & Red Ginger is actually where I found a like for it. I actually love everything I have had including the Dan Dan noodles, string beans, scallion pancake & dumplings. Five years, a pandemic, and a hurricane later the food is still outstanding.
Two weeks ago we had an unfortunate incident happen. We walked in (with my service dog) was seated, given menuās and waters. Moments after, we were approached by the woman who sat us asking if we would move our table because āa larger table was available outside for usā I was confused because we didnāt request a large table nor did we request a table outside. My wife declined. While it wasnāt verbally stated, one can put the puzzle pieces together.
While Red Ginger may have played this āsmartā they knew they couldnāt legally ask us to move outside. We were still made to feel very uncomfortable in a place where we once felt safe & comfortable coming to.

The food here is not authentic or even close to authentic Chinese cuisine,it feels more like a fusion. Most dishes were overwhelmingly sweet, which may not appeal to those accustomed to traditional Asian flavors.
We ordered hot and sour soup, wonton soup, and spicy chicken, but the chicken was noticeably sweet rather than spicy. The menu mentioned Sichuan pepper, yet there was no noticeable numbing or spicy effect. The shumai was decent, but the rest of the dishes didnāt taste fresh. On top of that, they forgot our drinks.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

Cute spot in downtown Asheville. Our server was very helpful and super friendly. The food was good but nothing to write home about. If youāre in Asheville, Iād say try somewhere else instead.

This place is over priced for the amount of food you get.

Absolutely terrible! Went there with really high hopes of getting some decent Chinese food and was very disappointed.

Clean and tasty, except the duck noodle soup is not served with scallion as advertised, and it uses the same broth that cooks the dumplings. Not gluten free. Four slices of duck in a bowl half filled with noodles, bok choy, and broth.

Went on a Wednesday lunchtime. We got seated right away, the waitress was gracious and helpful. I love how the restaurant is decorated, a calming, elevated, atmosphere. I had the Szechuan Wonton and Shrimp & Chive Dumplings. Both were delicious. I also ordered the same menu items for delivery the next day.
Parking: there are a couple of open, for fee, lots within a 3min walk, or you may get very lucky and park in front of the restaurant

Weāve eaten here a couple of times, and the food is always very good. There are some dishes that are standouts, and some dishes that are simply very good.
Having lived in cities that have the rolling carts, I really prefer the rolling carts, because you get a wider variety, but on Red Gingerās website they note that
āIn contrast to the more traditional dim sum experience, wherein guests choose dishes from a rolling cart, Red Ginger embraces a dynamic and interactive dining experience.ā Personally, I feel that rolling carts are interactive and dynamic. But I understand that that is not their m.o.
The first time we came was when they first opened, many years ago. I just now returned in February 2025 with a large group. I remember the first time I was a little disappointed with the menu selections, because I really wanted more dumplings/dim sum options. And it seems that this is the same menu. And I miss some of the offerings at traditional dim sum houses, which donāt seem to be anywhere in Asheville. I know of no place where I can get chicken feet or bean curd or egg tarts or the wonderful custard desserts or congee. I understand that thereās not a big demand in AVL for chicken feet, so I donāt expect red ginger to have it. But if any place was going to have it, it would be red ginger, as they seem closest to a traditional dim sum house that we have in Asheville!
As to dumplings at red ginger, I know thereās a mushroom dumpling that some of my friends enjoy; I had the shrimp and chives dumpling, and I also had the crystal shrimp dumpling. They were served in traditional bamboo steamer baskets. And they were cooked perfectly. But the presence of those dumplings only makes me wish that Red Ginger did a Sunday dim sum. And offered just a full dumpling menu!
My friends ordered various items, but the standout is always the green beans. In addition to my dumplings, I also ordered some bok choy, and it was nice and garlicy.
I make a great deal of bok choy at home, and this was cooked well. It still had a bit of crispness, while also having the softness without being too limp.
The stirfry string beans are exceptional and, in my estimation, are the best thing on the menu. They come as close to truly authentic Chinese string beans as I have had in AVL. The spice level is perfect. They are crispy. The string beans hit all of the right notes.
The only other disappointment is that as dim sum restaurant I wish they offered more tea selections, and it would be lovely if they had tea by the pot. Instead we are brought a hot cup of water and a teabag. It would be very easy for them to do Jasmine by the pot or green by the pot, and charge a bit more and the pot could be shared among two or three people to enjoy with our dumplings. Red Ginger does not promise Yum Cha, which is dim sum with tea, but they could easily expand their tea offerings and teapots would be a wonderful compliment to any of their dishes. Since they have dim sum, the opportunity to have yum cha would be there if they just added a tea by the pot.
I would return tomorrow for the green beans. They are indeed excellent!
Vegetarian options: We had a couple of vegetarians with us and they did not have a hard time finding menu items.
Parking: This is a tricky area of Asheville in terms of finding parks, especially when tourists are in town!
Kid-friendliness: Seems totally appropriate for kids.

This is our second time dining here, and this time we brought our parents and daughter. The food and service remain outstanding. The staff is exceptionally warm and attentive, taking the time to chat with us and ensuring we had everything we needed. One waiter even brought my wife a washing soda after noticing a piece of food had dropped on her clothing. Another kindly held the door for us as we were leaving. Such warm and dedicated service is truly rare these days.
