My friends and I decided to try out to tall John's for brunch last Sunday based on a recommendation from one of us who had been there before. Despite the promising reviews online that indicated dogs were allowed, our experience quickly turned sour.
From the moment we stepped in, things felt off. We informed the waitress about our service dog, a small puppy that our friend had with her. She was totally fine with it, and we decided to sit at the bar. However, things took a turn when the manager intervened in a completely unnecessary and rude manner. She abruptly approached us, citing a supposed doctor's note about where the dog could be placed.
To make matters worse, as we were enjoying our drinks and some appetizers, another pat larger dog briefly appeared outside, prompting our puppy to bark momentarily. This resulted in the manager making a loud, insensitive comment: "Service dogs DON'T bark!" This remark was not only unprofessional but also completely disrespectful.
While the food was great, the terrible service ruined our experience. If Tall Joh's allows dogs, they should treat customers with respect and handle it professionally. If they can’t do that, they shouldn’t allow dogs at all. We wanted to enjoy our brunch, but the manager’s rude attitude made it impossible. I personally won’t be coming back and would suggest others go somewhere with better service.

I made a reservation for two for Sunday(today)brunch. Brunch was very good. I will say that it is a bit pricy for the quantity of food, but the presentation was nice. After finishing our meal, we received our check very quickly after telling our waiter we would like coffee. Not too long after getting our coffee, a staff member comes to us and asked if we could continue drinking our coffee at the bar because" they had a bigger party that made a reservation coming in." So we went to the bar to continue our coffee and our conversation. We were then approached by another staff member that asked us to move seats again to accommodate other people that were waiting for a table. At that time, we just left.
This will be first and last time going to this establishment. We felt very rushed to eat and leave even though a reservation was made. Our waiter was very nice and helpful.

It’s often hard to give 5/5 for a place because something falls short whether it be service, plating, cutlery or “vibes” but Tall johns truly excelled at every one of these. The bar staff was regimented and full of poise the steak and its complimentary butter were otherworldly in a city with many hyped up restaurants this one definitely deserves that recognition. From back of house to front of house to the bathroom everything is thought out and seems happy to be there and spread joy thru dining.

Great spot tucked in the Montford neighborhood. Sat at the kitchen bar and was cool to watch the chefs at work. I had the grilled octopus but everyone they made looked delicious.

Vegetarian options: So good I forgot to take pictures. We had the grilled octopus with with the cream pea salad and sheet vinaigrette, the brussel sprouts with bacon and chili oil, and my favorite, the roasted half chicken with Jus, and grilled lemon. My husband had the Negronis and I had a couple of Cosmos. We love it here, HIGHLY recommend!!! We love the neighborhood vibes.
Kid-friendliness: Not really a kid place.

Adore the atmosphere and food and drinks. I do wish there were a few lower priced options for those of us who live in the neighborhood but can’t afford the fancy stuff. I used to come regularly for the half off 4-5 deal which I’m so grateful for but the menu is so limited and doesn’t change much so I got a bit tired of it. When yall did the breakfast burritos during the hurricane it about made me cry - THANK YOU

The food was cold when it was served. I tried the pork shop and my friend the chicken. I was not impressed. Is a limited menu. The service was not good for the price you're expecting. I only have one drink because I wasn't asked if I wanted another. The parking is terrible. You will need to park in front of a house.

Love this place, just need to get some variety in the menu, especially the small and midsize plates

Met some friends for Sunday brunch at Tall John’s. All of our meals were delicious, the service was fantastic (attentive but not obnoxious), nice atmosphere, nice dining experience with table cloth’s and cloth napkins. Only spot for improvement I saw was the heating system. We were sat at a table at the back of the restaurant near a side/back door and the draft was very cold. I couldn’t take my jacket off while I ate and we left with very cold feet (literally, not figuratively).

We went to Tall John's as part of my mother's 80th birthday celebration, as well as Thanksgiving week. It was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was above and beyond, leaving us feeling pampered. Thank you, Gray, Naomi, and Nick. We enjoyed calamari, duck, pork, salmon and more. All were meticulously and thoughtfully presented, and delicious. I can't wait to return!

Came here for their happy hour, such a good value! every thing we tried was good and very well seasoned, almost on the too salty side. The pork chop entree was outstanding. The roast chicken was juicy but the sauce was a little too sweet for me. The atmosphere was casual. They didn't have a kids menu but very accommodating for kids nonetheless. We'd definitely come back.
