Great selection of Belgian beers in the basement. Knowledgeable bartender, Joshua, was great to talk with.
Was here yesterday and had a great experience! The pretzels, burger, chicken tenders, and the SAUCES - downright delicious. The bartender there last night, a dark haired young person whose name I did not get, was helpful and attentive which was impressive with how many guests she had at the bar. The only downside was the air conditioning, it was absolutely freezing and that made it hard to get settled it. But we asked the bartender to turn it down and she was very accommodating! Definitely get the lusty monk mustard to dip your fries!!
Two of us are visiting Asheville NC for the weekend. We went into the downstairs bar on Sunday 9/08/24 @ 415 pm ,to try a Belgium Beer. There were three patrons already seated at the bar. We sat down and after about 4 minutes the bartender approached with a very curt greeting. I asked about one of the beers and he abruptly said ‘the beer tastes the same upstairs’ and instructed us to go upstairs. After I realized he wasn’t joking, he added, ‘I’m trying to eat and I don’t eat in front of people…’. Needless to say we were a bit taken back. We left and went across the street to the Yacht Club Bar. Beer tasted great there….
We love beers here especially imperial and blonde ale and sour one. Also, it was dog-friendly as well. Staffs were so nice to our dog and we felt comfortable with our dog.
The Jalapeno cheddar popcorn was fun and good with beer
Enjoyed the exceptional beer and the great conversation with bar tender, Josh. The Delirium Black is a wonderful brew!
Thirsty Monk is a great spot to get a drink. We spent the majority of our time on the basement level, which had a cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying a unique selection of beers. I particularly enjoyed the strawberry beer—it was refreshing and flavorful. The ground and higher levels serve different types of beers, offering a variety of options for all tastes.
While it can get a bit loud at times, the friendly staff more than make up for it with their excellent service and welcoming attitude. Overall, Thirsty Monk is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a drink.
We hung out at the Delirium bar downstairs. Had several excellent beers, and overall a great vibe. Josh was a great bartender, very knowledgeable about all the beers they had available and wanted to make sure we got something we’d enjoy.
Stopped in on a quiet Sunday afternoon for some good beer in a cozy spot. Picked up some nice recommendations from the bartender for our short visit to Asheville. Thanks!
So first the bartender upstairs, don’t remember his name (ginger hair) was super positive, great server, completely professional and friendly. The tap selection both upstairs and downstairs have really gone downhill over the past couple years.
Now, we had a group that ventured downstairs to the Belgian beer taps. There were 2 other patrons seated at the bar. No one else downstairs. Our party ordered 7 beers between the 6 of us. Bartender was smug, rude and clearly didn’t want to be there. I also witnessed him being rude to two other groups that came after we arrived. Ordered a coffee drink which is made with cold brew and was told the bartender would have to go upstairs to get more coffee if we needed it. Okay. Bartender took my card for the tab, never saying if he would swipe and give back to me, or if he would keep it. He just continued to stand in front of me tapping the touch screen. He then looked at me after about 30 seconds and said, “I guess I’ll just move this to this side”, as he moved the bar map from
In front of me to the other side. Okay Mr. Passive Aggressive. Truly if you hate your job, which is based almost solely on tips, you should do something else. I won’t be back. Their line of seltzers are not good either. Tastes of articulation sweetener. I feel bad for the bartender upstairs who probably has to apologize for his bartending counterpart downstairs.
Excellent staff! Knowledgeable & friendly! Josh is the man! Upstairs, the seltzers are delicious & you can't go wrong with anything downstairs. If you like strawberries- try the Fruli! ?

Josh was THE BEST bartender we’ve ever had!! So passionate about his job & clearly an amazing human!! Thank you for the service & delicious beers! :)
Great place. Very good Belgium beer.
Hidden gem bar. One of our favorites! To get to the Belgium bar you meter the facility at street level then by the bar is the staircase to the Belgium bar that is downstairs. Great beer selection and all we tried was delicious. Bartender was great as well.Make sure to meet Arthur the pink elephant and get your picture with him!Parking is limited. Some paid street parking but paid parking lots nearby.
Visited in October 2014. The Thirsty Monk is a spacious bar divided into two sections: the American bar and the Belgian bar. Personally, I found the Belgian side less captivating, so I opted for the American section. They offer a pleasant selection of uncommon brews, accompanied by friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. Overall, it’s a winning combination.
