When I graduated HS 40+years ago I went to work for a little plant called Modern Globe in Bakersville NC & every Friday we ordered lunch from the hometown restaurant named Helen's...it was something to look forward to each week while I worked there. I was so happy all these years later to find it is still in business and the new owner, Donna Stafford kept the name in honor of the original Helen. The staff was friendly and the food so good just like all those years ago. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak sub and my husband ordered the Carolina Classic burger and he told me he wants to go back again! 5-stars all around!

Traditional family oriented restaurant that's been a staple in Bakersville for decades.
I ordered bacon cheeseburger and some other things it cost $26 and I went and got it and I got home. All the way in Spruce Pine. and did not have the bacon on it. I called them and all they can do is I come all the way back over there and they give me the bacon or they give me a dollar off my next order it was such a inconvenience to me. They couldn’t make it right like any other restaurant. Would they even talk to the owner? and they still all that they would do

They messed up on my burger didn’t even put bacon on it and then all they said is come back and get the bacon just take a dollar off. It is an inconvenience I was all the way in Spruce Pine and all they can do is give me the bacon or take a dollar off my next order. I mean they messed up and that’s all they could do. I paid $26 and that’s all they was willing to do

We stopped in for lunch and ordered chopped steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was good, the hamburger was medium and the mashed potatoes were great. We also ordered a burger, that was good with French fries. We also ordered the triple decker sandwich and tater tots all was good. The best was the milk shake. Vanilla with Oreos, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Prices were great and if we are in the area again we will stop by! Thank you!

Another favorite for my mom and family and us to have a wholesome delicious dinner and breakfast. Some of the greatest memories with mom and family was here and most delicious restaurant food ? visited here a not too long ago and it's as wholesome as always and smell will catch you and reel you in plum from the gas stations down the block lol. Love this place hope it stays open for all life. ♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️? ? ? ??????✨️?✨️?✨️?✨️ ?????? ✨️?✨️?✨️???????? ? ? ♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️
Vegetarian options: There aren't veggie burgers last I saw but I ordered a mushroom Swiss without cheese or meat and it was surprisingly better than any veggie burger it was fantastic it had pesto and rainbow greens on it and omg I want some again so bad. So it's not a large selection but sometimes I'm happy to go there just for the fries or onion rings and side items they have but now that I discovered the specially requested mushroom Swiss I'm eating that from now on with fries and sides. It's worth it so enjoy.
