Beautiful grounds and historic hotel. I didn't stay overnight i only visited the small bar which is in the back. The bartender steven makes a good quality drink and fun to chat with. They serve breakfast but we have not tried it yet.
What a sweet place. What I remember most: A squeaky screen door, barn cats in the yard, a comfortable bed, beautiful mountain views and rich history.
If you are not comfortable seeing an occasional cobweb or having to use a window fan (I didn't need one, not even in August thanks to the mountain elevation) or don't like anything short of a HGTV environment this may not be the place for you.

Old review: The Balsam Mountain Inn used to have a great old time hotdog picnic for the Fourth of July. I called to ask if they were still having it and there response was “nope”. This was a fun event for the local people of Balsam/Sylva/Waynesville. The name change was upsetting enough for everyone but I think they should...
