Great atmosphere and service. Menu is what you would expect for tavern food but very good. Server was friendly and attentive.

Great food, atmosphere, and service. Ask for extra sauce on the bone in wings. Great time overall. Highly recommend.

The Brussels Sprouts were *insanely* delicious! Delicious elevated pub fare. Service was excellent - Emma was so friendly and accommodating! Can't wait to go back on our next trip to the mountains!

Great food, prices, and service. At least 10 beers on tap and everything ordered was great from the ribeye to burger to chocolate bomb. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough about this place. Waitress didn't know the menu or was just a complete airhead and said they had things that they didn't. I ended up not eating. Also, what's with serving and appetizer with no plates? Lower class clientele maybe but I would never go back. The fries were ice cold and hard. The fish fry "fish and chips" was near raw. Then she told us she had soup then comes back with our meals and says "hey we are out of soup, sorry". Even with my incorrect dinner she never offered to get me anything else, at that point I just wanted to leave. Terrible food, terrible service, terrible experience. Underwhelming at best.

The place reeks of local regulars including what seemed like the owner who make fun of tourists/guests after they leave the establishment. They sit at the bar and have fake conversation and then make fun of anything that was said that didn't match their indoctrination. The establishment allows vaping indoors-- eww. They praised right-wing extremist politicians efforts to "turn this country around". The irony is that the bar has a sign posted saying "no whining zone" and literally the locals complained about everything...I'm a white person and I didn't feel comfortable here-- can only imagine what a person of color would experience. I would have left 1 star but gave it 2 because the wait staff genuinely seemed nice and helpful. If you're a visitor looking for a unique local Sugar Mountain experience, don't waste your money here. This isn't it!

Came here with my boyfriend on vacation from seattle. We stopped here after hiking grandfather mountain. I had the Carolina Burger, my boyfriend had the Highland Burger! Both with tots and definitely the best best burger this side of the Mississippi I tell you what! I would leave a photo but it's not pretty I promise I destroyed that burger in record time.

A friend and I ate here on a late Friday afternoon. We chose to sit outside on the covered "patio-ish" area. Let's start with the bad.,.I normally give the good first but this is just easier. First, after waiting to get our menu, we asked the server if they could possibly turn on the outside lights because we literally couldn't even see the menu. The guy said that he would check on it. So we saw him bringing out stuff to other people and still no light and you could clearly see that we were using the flashlights on our phone to look at the menu. We asked a different waitress, hey do you think we could get some lights out here? Her response was, "let me see." We were kind of wondering... What is there to see about?.. Just go do it. We order the garlic parmesan wings and the blackened fish and an order of balsamic and Bleu cheese chips. So the wings had very little sauce and/or flavor. However, I did enjoy the crispy crust. You got a small container of Bleu cheese and from the menu it said it would cost extra for more. The wings were supposed to be accompanied by celery and carrots. However, it only came with celery. The celery tasted like it had been soaking in some sort of chemical bath and therefore I did not eat it. My friend enjoyed her fish and brussel sprouts. She felt like the fish had probably been previously frozen but it still tasted fine to her. We enjoyed the chips with the balsamic and the blue cheese. You just couldn't go wrong there. The place had alcohol and apparently it's quite the hangout for games and karaoke. However that was not going on yet during our visit. We pretty much decided that there was nothing there to make us really want to go back again despite some good selections on the menu. It was just not a pleasant experience. So, try at your own risk.

The food was fine, and the server was pleasant. Having said that, they were so overloaded that the service was quite slow. I liked their indoor/outdoor eating area.

My husband and I had lunch here on a weekend. Pros - Lots of tvs to watch a game Plenty of seating Large bar-like menu Friendly staff Good prices Cons - Could use a little sprucing up on the interior Sandwiches, while good and satisfying were on the greasy side

Orders were originally messed up but the food was amazing and the bartender was super nice considering they were extremely under staffed (no fault of their own). Even the locals tried to help us make sure we were helped. Cozy little place.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We came here to eat lunch and at 12 o'clock they had no chicken, onion rings, corn fritters, or sweet tea. The waitress from the get go had a major attitude and all she had was excuses. Apparently trucks only come in once a week so that's problematic, especially if you know you're going to be busy. The food was absolutely terrible and they charge 3% for non-cash transactions. All in all, safe your time and your money. It's definitely not worth it.

Waitress was good and patient. There was no wait and we got to choose our table. We got the tater tots for an apetizer and they were good. It had good music and the food came quick. The chicken was good but the fries werent the best i would recomend.

Dave and Karen are the best owners and really care about our opinions regarding service, food and entertainment. We love karaoke on Friday nights and have been long time supporters. Going to Highlanders is our weekly routine. A special shout out to Summer and Windy who always know what we need and take care of us. I love all the other staff and don't want to leave anyone out. Thanks for all you do!
