I haven't been there in years because they were so bad last time I went around 4 years ago. I thought we could give it another chance. Unfortunately, they haven't gotten any better. The BBQ is dry and tasteless, the sliced brisket is dry and tasteless, the ribs are overcooked and mushy. The hushpuppies weren't fresh. They fail to meet even the most basic of BBQ standards.

Phil's offers a wide variety of smoked meats, plus good Brunswick stew, crinkle fries and hush puppies. There are several sauce options, including vinegar-based, mustard-based, sweet, spicy-hot, and even a mayonnaise-based one that some people like (not me). The covered outdoor dining area features picnic tables and is dog-friendly. The indoor space is a bit too dark and loud for my taste, but most people seem to prefer that to the picnic tables. There is free live music some Sunday evenings.

The atmosphere is lively and we appreciated the music. The staff were friendly and helpful but not very knowledgeable. Ultimately, we tried the chopped BBQ chicken, waffle fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, okra, baked beans and banana pudding. The waffle fries and baked beans were quite good. The BBQ was very dry and, even with sauce, was tasteless. The hush puppies were hard and without significant flavor. The banana pudding had no bananas - just pudding and a few wafers. While I like to support local businesses, there are much better options in Black Mountain.

This is the second time I have ate here the first time the food was great so we decided to eat there today. Waste of money the bbq pork had no taste sawdust would have more flavor. The fries were cold the hush puppies were not home made hard as rocks the slaw had the most flavor and that wasn’t much. The only thing I enjoyed was the tea. Sure wasn’t worth 40 bucks won’t be going back there.

Phils Bar-B-Que pit is a great place if you're in the area. The food was great (I'm not typically a barbecue person.) Service was quick, and the atmosphere was great. I absolutely loved this place.
This place is amazing! It is a little hole-in-the-wall local place with great, original food, friendly staff, and a family atmosphere. If your kiddos have a 1000 allergies like our kids do, this is the place to go. They accommodated our severe egg allergy really well. They even have an allergy button in their system. Great place. We will be back!
