Food & drinks: The restaurant and service was amazing. We had Stephen and he was extremely attentive. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and it was literally the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot of LowCountry Shrimp and Grits). The cocktails were delicious also. Now my husband and I want to go back and stay for a weekend.

So happy we found this place! Service was exceptional, friendly and helpful and food was amazing. The brussel sprouts really are as good as everyone says, believe them. Oh, and the in-house designed Envy cocktail? Yum!

Not excellent but not bad. Hummus appetizer was good, wings were very good, fries were amazing, shrimp po boy not so much. Flavor of everything was fine but not quite enough to leave me euphoric afterwards. Great ambience. Sitting outside during a beautiful day made for no regrets. Service was good too

Great Smashed Burger and Fries. The fried brussel sprouts were delicious. The Pilsner draft was perfect. And for dessert, the banana pudding with nilla wafers was devine.

This local gem was recommended by my innkeeper. Walking distance and a cool patio for alfresco dining. If you're in NC, get what the locals eat. My waitress recommended their burger and fries with sweet tea. Across the board, better than anything in my town! Looking for a second visit to eat, sightsee and talk to the friendly locals

I stopped in for biscuits on my last morning in Blowing Rock, and they were the perfect sendoff! It's such a cute spot downtown - perhaps one day I'll make it back for the full overnight experience.

We tried Hellbender for the first time and can't wait to go back. The food and serve was fantastic. ( I was glad to see they didn't have those uncomfortable blue chairs.) It reminded us of the cozy pubs we stopped at road tripping on Scotland. The mac and cheese and salad were delicious. Our kids loved the burgers and my husband was really happy with the chicken sandwich. FYI, the mains don't come with sides so we went with it and got a few to share. The whole place was really clean too.

Restaurant review only: Wouldn't return. Menu is limited and the food we ordered wasn't great. I didn't even eat my meal (and the side item didn't come out). Waitress didn't check on us for over 15 minutes and by the time we got up to get her, we were ready for dessert. The skillet cookie was the best part about the restaurant. Waitress presented the bill in a deceptive way (didn't provide a receipt until requested) and just wanted us to pay the bill based on her verbal amount. When I asked for the check, I noticed they charged me for the meal I didn't eat due to the flavor, and charged for the side item I didn't receive until after the desert was brought to the table. Service was slow and food not worth returning for in our opinion. Ambience is average to below average. Disappointed to have been billed for food that was sub par and not eaten. The restaurant only credited $5 for the late side item.

Stopped in today with a friend and was immediately seated. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially the newbie (her second day). We ordered the special, a burger, one side, and one beer or glass of wine. The burger was good (needed something to pop the flavor though), fries were hot and delicious, and the recommended beer was perfect. We will definitely come back!Noteworthy details: Staff was great!

Hellbender Bed and Beverage is a unique spot to stay and eat in Blowing Rock, with a fabulous location to the cute downtown area; everything is walkable from Hellbender We stayed there for two nights and got breakfast and drinks. Their drinks are INCREDIBLE! They offer a really nice cocktail list with some creative drinks that are flavorful and strong--and reasonably priced at $12-14. The bartender also will make you whatever you want, and she was great about asking whether I wanted my Cosmo on the sweeter side or tart side, and made sure to ask us what our preferred alcohol brand was. Really great service from the bar.Guests get complimentary smoothies and coffee that is out by 8 am everyday. Smoothies are made to order and I hadn't planned to get one, but saw someone else enjoying one and it looked good. Wow, the chocolate peanut butter one was so good! I definitely recommend their smoothies. Also, their biscuits are SO TASTY! And they are filling! I thought it was going to be a tiny biscuit, but it was huge and fluffy and must have had at least two eggs worth of scrambled eggs on there. Very good and very reasonably priced. Definitely come here for breakfast biscuits! For staying here--well, it is cute and quaint, with wooden floors that aren't level, but lacks some comforts. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows are flat, so if you drive to stay here, I recommend bringing your own pillow. We stayed here on a Saturday and a Sunday and I'm glad we got the two nights experience because Saturday, other guests were incredibly loud (the problem with it being a bed and beverage...) and the thin walls of the old house meant that we could hear every word and could even hear people snoring in the neighboring rooms. However, it was a different situation on Sunday night--noisy guests were gone and it was blissfully quiet to sleep. Room 3, where we stayed, is directly over the bar and kitchen area, so is probably louder than most and we could hear dishes being moved around below. If there is another room available, rent that instead of room 3! The bathroom needs some additional insulation and a space heater or wall radiator--it was so cold because the only heat was in the bedroom, which didn't make it into the bathroom. Also, the water in the shower never got hot--it was lukewarm at best. We thought maybe it was because of the time of day showering, but showering midday and early morning didn't seem to make a difference for the water temperature. If you stay here in the summer, this probably won't matter as much. If you are a light sleeper or care about your water temperature, I recommend checking out another place to stay in Blowing Rock.
