I have visited both blue deer in Blowing Rock & now this one on King in Boone. At this location, Luc was at the register and Lindsay made my vanilla shake with crumbled chocolate chip. She took the time to get it right. Both employees were nice, too! While I love their ice cream which is sourced from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC—I did ask where they get the baked goods & it’s actually US Goods, from my understanding.
I would love for them to source local cookies & baked goods to use in their ice creams. It would elevate the experience! I did find out the bagels are local, that’s a plus for me!
BTW, our son enjoys their coffee and the upper levels to occasionally get his projects and reading done for App State.
I do highly recommend Blue Deer! If you can, go up and sit way up high and get the views!

This place is quaint and rustic. Great for a quick ice cream or a leisure coffee/shake and time with friends. Great view of campus from roof too

Teeny tiny cafe specializes in great ice cream sandwiches made with two cookies. You get to pick your ice cream flavor and your cookies and they will build your sandwich. Coffee is good too, but it’s not the reason for visiting.

You can't go wrong with cookie and ice cream sandwiches. I mean, seriously. Just go, stop kidding yourself, you know you want one.
Went to blue deer to get ice cream around 9:35 and they were closed. They do not close until 10 and there were no signs posted or anything posted that they were closing early!

Amazing ice cream and cookies! Also amazing combinations of the two with exquisite ice cream sandwiches and cookie sundaes! All at great prices! Much better than insomnia cookies down the road. Support local businesses, not large chains like insomnia.
