Hatchet Coffee has a way of feeling instantly familiar, even if you’re not sure you’ve been before. On our second trip to Boone, we pulled up to the café and were struck by that déjà vu sense of comfort an immediate excitement that confirmed we’d found one of the High Country’s true gems. This was our second visit, and once again Hatchet proved itself to be among the best coffee purveyors in the region. The line was long, but the anticipation only added to the ritual; after all, we had a 45-minute drive ahead to Grandfather Mountain, and good coffee was non-negotiable. At the counter, the staff embodied the kind of hospitality that makes a place unforgettable. The cashier was warm and attentive, quick to ask questions when she didn’t have an answer, and genuinely excited to help. I had come to swap ground beans for whole, and while the exchange wasn’t possible, they graciously sent me home with a bag of Brazilian beans instead a gesture that spoke volumes about their passion and care. Despite the bustle, the wait was brief, and the atmosphere remained convivial. One of the baristas even struck up a conversation with me about my jacket, a small but meaningful interaction that elevated the experience beyond the cup. Hatchet Coffee is more than a café it’s a community hub, a place where quality and connection meet. With its exceptional brews, thoughtful staff, and welcoming spirit, it’s the kind of spot you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.

Great atmosphere, the folks were super friendly, the food fresh, and the drinks delicious. We got 2 different type of lattes, heirloom sandwhich, avocado toast, and blackberry lemon tart. All of it blew us away. It was wonderful.

Word of mouth recommended and looking forward to stopping in again.

Everything was excellent. Friendly, local vibe. They make their own syrups.

Hatchet Coffee is one of my favorite spots to grab a great cup of coffee and enjoy some delicious food. On my visit, I ordered a latte, and the barista surprised me by making the latte art into a cute little bear! It was such a fun touch, and the drink itself was absolutely delicious... smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced.

But Hatchet Coffee is so much more than just great coffee. Their food menu is impressive with plenty of tasty options. I am a big fan of their avocado toast, which is always fresh and flavorful. The focaccia bread is another favorite of mine. They also have amazing fruit tarts and so many other choices that make it hard to pick just one.

The atmosphere at Hatchet is really inviting. It’s a great place to come whether you want to study quietly or catch up with friends. The vibe is cozy but lively, with plenty of seating and natural light that makes it easy to settle in for a while.

On top of all that, they offer some awesome merchandise and coffee mugs. It’s fun to take a little piece of Hatchet Coffee home with you or find the perfect gift for a coffee lover.

I highly recommend checking out Hatchet Coffee if you’re in the area. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or just looking for a great place to eat and hang out, this spot has something for everyone. Becoming a regular there, would highly recommend!

My husband and I came to the area for a weekend and found this cute coffee shop. The coffee and food were great! Only recommendation would be to have a few more food options.

Very cute, very hip, very happening cafe off the main drag. Lots of space to sit and socialize or get some work done. Coffee and breakfast were absolutely delicious!

If you get a chance to stop in, don’t miss it. The food was surprisingly robust for a coffee shop and everything was delish! (Highly recommend the seasonal pumpkin scone!). Our lattes were literally works of art. I only wish we’d taken a photo before drinking. Last, the staff was great. Really appreciated the hospitality of everyone in the store. Lots of seating for busy days.
