Makoto's Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar-Boone NC Restaurant

We decided to introduce my girlfriend's mother and stepfather to Makoto's last night (12/29/2024) because we always enjoy our visits there. While waiting for our table in the bar area some very rude customers decided to bully a local customer that ended with her being very upset. Katrina, Stephen and Landon (I hope I have their names correct) went above and beyond to ensure this young lady was protected and taken care of. Not only is the service, food and atmosphere amazing, we will continue to visit Makoto's because of the actions these individuals took to protect a customer.

Misleading menu. They charge one price and the book menu has totally different prices, and they won’t honor what their book menu says. They don’t tell you till they give you the bill after you have already eaten.

The food was absolutely delicious. The chef along with my server were both great. The problem I have is that when I open the menu, the shrimp and fillet combination says $29. When I got my bill, i Was charged 43.50 I believe, Also, I ordered 2 old-fashioned. I was charged $20 per Woodford drink plus an additional $4 per drink because I asked for an old fashioned (two dashes of bitters and half an ounce of simple syrup). When I Notified my server of the discrepancy in food price her response was, we don’t update the menus. Also, they include a 15%service fee that to me is more of a gratuity where they If I knew it was $50 for the steak and shrimp combination. I would’ve went to the steakhouse down the street. Just think they’re lacking transparency.

We went with a group of 14 so we had to split into 2 tables. They were very acommidating to us. We had a great time. It is a little expensive though.

Had steak with rice and veggies. Husband had chicken. Kids had avocado, cucumber and veggie rolls. And salad. You're definitely paying for a show more than the food, although if you know what to order there's no way they can mess it up. The portions were huge so that was a big plus. I went because Hurricane Helene just hit this area hard and I wanted to help a business in this area. (I drove an hour.)

Was super excited to try to this place. I was however very disappointed. I got seated quickly but took about 10 minutes before the waitress got my drink order. She did explain everything and how the ordering worked. Told me I couldn’t order from the regular menu cause I was sitting in the sushi bar, but the people at the bar could order from the regular menu. I ended up deciding to just try the sushi. Did not take long to get to get it. Presentation was very good. Quality and taste were not very tasteful. I got the spider roll I think it was called. Shrimp on top was very rubbery and chewy. The rice was not the usually sticky goodness I expect. It was all very chewy. I’ve had better sushi for far less.

I’ve been here many times, this time wasn’t normal. The food wasn’t nearly as good as it usually is. Chef, put rice on grill, added sauce and put it on our plate, not even long enough to heat it up. Didn’t do any of the “show” part of it. Just cooked the food and put it on our plate. The food wasn’t what it normally is.

Overpriced. Experience is ok but for a family of 4 $200 is too much for a pile of rice.

It seems to me that they pay more attention to the spectacle of cooking in front of the diners, than to the taste and quality of the food, the white and flavorless rice was burnt, the filet mignon was cut so small that it burned too, everything was left without flavor, what a disappointment, here I leave the video so you can judge for yourselves.

Don’t go unless you want tasteless food for $100. Also they need a deep cleaning… felt dirty. Workers were friendly is the only positive thing I can say.

The food was excellent and the chef was talented in both food and showmanship. The facility has a sushi side and a hibachi side. Service a little slow but it was a holiday weekend in a college town and we arrived 45 minutes before closing . Over all a great experience.
