Makoto's Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar-Boone NC Restaurant

Best taste of the place is the ginger dressing not even the brown salad it comes with. For the price of the dish they don’t even use tiger shrimp and the portions are small compared to price. Everything is tasteless and you’re better off eating at a mc Donald’s.

Love my favorite of all places

Celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday with a group of eight people in attendance. Food was excellent and our chef's pre-meal flare show was the best we've ever experienced. The flaming Onion Volcano was awesome.

Just got into town and this is the closest place to my hotel. The convenience is meaningless in this case. I would drive 30 miles to eat here again this evening. The Staff are amazing and the Sushi is top notch. Probably the best I have had. I would have to have the last sushi I said was the best with this to make an accurate assessment. :) TY CU2Night

Makoto's has been in Boone for a number of years. For visitors and others that enjoy the experience of having your Chef prepare your food and throw food at you, then I would definitely recommend. For others there are cheaper and quicker ways to get Japanese food in Boone. For me this is just a place to take friends from out of town and let them enjoy a little fun food preparation. Even prior to your Chef coming to your table, there are chefs working on the other grills around you. This makes for a somewhat boisterous and noisy atmosphere, because of this and your seating arrangement it makes carrying on a conversation without having to yell at each other difficult.
If you are going with a group then definitely make reservations. They do have a sushi bar, though again it is quite expensive.

We had a good experience. Unfortunately for the waitress and cook, this place implements a service charge, no matter the amount of people. I generally tip 20 to 30 percent. A forced service fee ensures that I leave nothing more. If need to implement service fees, you should pay your people more. Will not be back solely for this reason.

We decided to introduce my girlfriend's mother and stepfather to Makoto's last night (12/29/2024) because we always enjoy our visits there. While waiting for our table in the bar area some very rude customers decided to bully a local customer that ended with her being very upset. Katrina, Stephen and Landon (I hope I have their names correct) went above and beyond to ensure this young lady was protected and taken care of. Not only is the service, food and atmosphere amazing, we will continue to visit Makoto's because of the actions these individuals took to protect a customer.

Recommended dishes: Shrimp and Yakitori

Misleading menu. They charge one price and the book menu has totally different prices, and they won’t honor what their book menu says. They don’t tell you till they give you the bill after you have already eaten.
