Used to be the best restaurant in boone. Not any more. Hard to enjoy the food here anymore when they do not offer to go food. Open only 15 hours a week and don't offer to go food? It's really ridiculous and bad business. By the recent reviews seems like it pretty typical now, lazy, dumb and not a way to keep a small business running. Good luck!

Let me tell you something: if you want to throw down on some truly SATISFYING southern fare, Proper is the place to do just that! There is hardly a single thing on the menu I haven't licked my plate clean after eating, but I GOTTA give a special shout out to those fried green tomatoes with the pimento cheese AND that meatloaf. I don't know who is in that kitchen, but they are FREAKING it Thursday through Sunday! Thank god for this place.

There’s no place like Proper. The moment you enter the establishment, the air feels better. Come for the food, stay for the service, stay longer for the food. The staff is kind and goes above and beyond- the food is the best on planet earth. The most humble item on the menu will likely be what you love the most- I drank the collard juice. It is a complete sacrifice of love sharing this review with you…as we wish with all our hearts we could have Proper all to ourselves.

Very good food for good prices. Very small, interesting decor. I like that the menu shows you what is gluten free, diary free and vegan; it makes it much easier to pick something for those of us with dietary restrictions.

We were visiting Boone, from Pennsylvania, for a few days and we were so excited to find this little gem on our last night here! We had almost given up the search for some quality southern cuisine when we stumbled upon Proper. Exactly what we were looking for with amazing food, friendly hospitality, and cozy atmosphere . We will definitely stop again next time we’re in the area!

I really like this place, but they have about 3 parking spaces & there are no other places around there to park that you won't get towed. As we were there tonight, numerous of their customers got towed & when they were confronted about it they had zero remorse & were absolutely rude about it. The amount of money the towing companies are making off their customers in a night is probably more than Proper profits in a night. I won't be coming back unless they get PROPER parking & put up PROPER signage.

Wonderful experience dining at Proper. They made space for us in the dining room, as our original plan was a packed brewery with over an hour wait. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely kind and patient with our spirited/hungry children. We are excited we found this place and plan to come back!
I always enjoy dining here along with everyone else, so you'll need a reservation. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I love their soups and the fried chicken is definitely top tier.

My husband and I have been here on multiple occasions. We live east of Raleigh but LOVE Boone and the surrounding areas. Proper is an excellent restaurant. The staff are always accommodating, welcoming, friendly. I’ve never felt rushed. The staff take the time to review the specials and drinks. The food is the best part. The fried chicken is my favorite. It is seasoned perfectly and boneless. We will come back time and time again. Thank you Proper for the great service, food and memories!Parking: They have a small lot, free if you can find a space.

Called over the phone asking about a seating situation for 8 people. We were told it was first come first serve so we decided to split to two tables of four as we walked to the restaurant. When we walked in we were told it was reservation only due to the fact that they had one large table. It should have been stated over the phone instead of making us walk in to be told otherwise. Woman on the phone was the same as the woman who told us it was reservation only. Completely unprofessional, do not recommend.

My husband and I visited Boone last weekend and on Sunday afternoon Oct 15, I called Proper about reservations. They were pretty full but thankfully they managed to get us in when they first opened.I was expecting a regular larger sized restaurant but was pleasantly surprised at how cozy and intimate it was. Our Server was a guy (I think his name was Josh). He knew all the menu items and was patient and gave us some great recommendations. We started off with fried green tomatoes w/ pimento cheese. My husband isn’t generally fond of either items but he loved them! They weren’t greasy or overly breaded and were fantastic with the peach drizzle and pimento cheese.For entrees, I had the meatloaf and my husband who is vegetarian had the pintos. Both were great but I was almost sorry that I didn’t get the pintos because they were THAT good!! For sides I had beans/potato and sweet potato casserole. The crumble was made of panko and candied pecans and was perfect!! We were so stuffed, we didn’t save room for dessert but the chocolate bread pudding looked divine!This restaurant was our favorite in Boone. We ate at four different other restaurants while we were in town. For both of us, this was our favorite. The chef/lady who owns Proper puts a lot of love into this place. The servers do too. Try visiting first… you’ll want to go back the entire time you’re there!Vegetarian options: My husband is vegetarian and options that are normally made with pork like the pintos and collard greens along with most sides were all vegetarian friendly.
