I dont know how this place is recommended by reddit. The food is mid and gave me food poisoning. Should have taken it as a warning that the place was empty, considering the good places in boone always have a wait.

Called to place a to go order at 9:25. The host let me know the kitchen closes at 9:30 and won’t take my order. As I’m telling her it’s 9:25 not 9:30 so I’m confused. The resturant itself doesn’t close until 10 pm. I get you want to go home but terrible business practice!! If you customer calls at 9:25 and your kitchen closes at 9:30 YOU TAKE THE ORDER.

Super low key spot off the pop 105 bus route and US 421. Doesn’t show off. The food is served on paper plates because they know they don’t need to be impressing anyone. Not busy at all. Fast service, cheap, the food is as good as the Mexican food I had out west, which is pretty rare for NC, especially WNC. I’m surprised it took me four years to check this place out but I’ll definitely be back. The tacos are so simple but so good.

By far the most authentic, fresh, and most delicious Mexican food in Boone. So many good things on the menu. I have never tried something I didn't like at this place. And the burritos are HUGE! My favorite is the Al Pastor Burrito.

Ordered quesabirrea, food came out fast and tasted delicious. Could not have asked for a better experience, only wish I had more money to tip.
Do yourself a favor and eat here!

Got a huge burrito for a good price! Specifically, I got the chicken burrito. It was good, but nothing special. Next time I'll try a different item.

If you want good portions of authentic Mexican food in an unlikely spot, this is it. We had the quesabirria tacos which was an order of three. It is a roasted beef with cheese. It comes with an amazing consome. We also ordered the enchiladas Verde. There were four corn tortillas filled with shredded chicken, covered with lettuce, a Mexican crumble cheese, and cream. It's then smothered in a slightly spicy green salsa made from tomatillas. We ordered a side of rice and a pineapple aqua fresco for a drink.

I can honestly say that Taqueria La Monarca is one of the best taco spots I have been to in a long time. On my visit, I ordered a birria taco while my friends went for burritos. The moment our food arrived, the incredible aroma filled the air... it smelled so good that I didn’t even get a chance to snap a picture before we all dug in. (The photo I’m sharing is of our empty plates, which says it all.)
You know you’re having a great meal when the whole table goes silent and everyone is just focused on enjoying their food. That was exactly the vibe here. The birria taco was rich, tender, and packed with flavor, perfectly paired with the spicy red salsa from their toppings and salsa bar, which I highly recommend. The combination was bold and satisfying, and it really brought out the best in the taco.
The staff at Taqueria La Monarca were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall great experience. The salsa bar itself is a real highlight... offering fresh, flavorful options that let you customize your meal exactly how you like it. The spicy red salsa with the birria taco was a standout for me, adding just the right kick.
Whether you are craving tacos, burritos, or just a great Mexican meal, this place is a must visit. The food is authentic and delicious, the staff make you feel at home, and the whole atmosphere is casual and inviting. I can’t wait to come back and try more from their menu. If you are nearby, do yourself a favor and stop by Taqueria La Monarca. You won’t be disappointed.

Literally asked for barria tacos and I got unseasoned meat in a tortilla. Literally this isn’t even on the menu. Word for word said quesabirria tacos and still messed it up. Do better yall.
