It was okay. They don't have table service, and you have to order at a cash register. Our service was very slow. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. We didn't feel that the price reflected a good value. There are plenty of other places to go in the area before I would go back.

A solidly mid-tier experience but just makes me wistful for true greasy spoon diners I grew up with. Somehow even makes me miss Elmo's.

This is a bizarre place to eat. There is no wait staff. You are seated and told to place your order at the counter.
You get your own beverage.
The food is brought to the table by someone (maybe the owner).
No followup, no beverage refills, no service.
Prices are high for average food.
What is the attraction?
Much better breakfast options in Carrboro and Chapel Hill.

Food is fantastic. Owner is cool.
I dined here with my sister (celiac) who appreciated the wide variety of GF options. She got a breakfast sandwich on GF bread — regular-sized slices! — and said it was delicious. I had the green eggs and ham biscuit, which was tasty. Most of my home fries were raw inside hence 4 stars instead of 5.

Extremely rude owner/manager. Rude to me and rude to his staff in front of the restaurant. Food is mediocre at best and overpriced.
There’s plenty of better breakfast/lunch spots in Carrboro; don’t waste your time on this one.

We’ve been coming here since we moved to the area. It’s always been one of our go tos. My husband works at the hospital and often stops by after long shifts, and we’ve brought friends and family here.
This morning was different. From the moment we walked in, the owner met us with an attitude. We tried to brush it off and wait it out, we understand people have their days. But while I was talking to people I knew in line, he stood behind me and then snapped, “I’m just trying to do my job.” It completely caught me off guard and made me so uncomfortable that we ended up leaving.
It’s really disappointing to see a place we’ve loved turn into one we no longer feel welcome in.
This place is great! Easily the best diner in town.

The experience on our first visit was not enjoyable. We were seated and given menus, then informed that we would need to go to the counter to order. Fine, not how I would structure a restaurant, but sure. It looks like they used to have a chalkboard behind the counter, so maybe they have changed the flow.
I waited in line to order, and there were two parties in front of me. I probably waited 10+ min because the counter staff also had other duties. That's fine, but there was no acknowledgement of customers in line before staff had to take care of something else. Also, the time counter staff had to spend doing other things vs. taking orders and checkout was a poor balance. I'm pretty sure they must be experiencing a staffing issue. Again, it's okay to be doing multiple jobs, but it wasn't proper management of the workload.
Then, when I had placed my order we were waiting for food and enjoying the decor. The place looks nice. At some point, at the table behind me, I hear a member of staff telling customers that they are out of pumpkin pancakes. Excellent, as that is exactly what my partner ordered. I tell her, and she checks the menu for something else. The staff member comes to our table to tell us as well, and lets us know we can come to the counter to order something else. I do, and they take care of the difference in cost, which is good.
While we wait, the customers behind me leave, apparently having been refunded and fed up.
I recieve my food. It was slightly above room temperature, not hot. It smelled and tasted fine, but I wonder if it had been sitting while the pancake situation was being looked into.
My partner gets her meal, which was chicken and waffles. The menu specified a chicken breast, but the dish was actually served with strips. They were a good temp, and apparently house made. The waffle was not hot.
TL;DR: Any one of the issues we experienced would have just seemed like an off day, but everything together pointed more towards a systemic issue. I left out a few other small negative observations because, honestly, the ones I have listed so far were enough.

Great GF options (waffles,pancakes,fried chicken)!
I really like that it’s an order at the counter place (I saw some reviews incensed by that but hey you never have to wait for the check!)
All in all I’d say a solid improvement over the beloved Elmos that once held space there.

Weird. There was only one diner around lunch time. No table service. Scanned the menu and left.
