I asked for a dry cappuccino and was told, "We don't make them dry" by the person on the register. Seriously? Must be "the customer is always wrong" day. When I owned my coffee shop, I made all drinks to order according to my customers' preferences. A dry cappuccino is standard, unless your baristas don't know what they're doing. The coffee I received was more like a latte than a cappuccino. It was fine, but customer service is obviously not their strength. Will not be back.

Gray Squirrel remains my favorite coffee place in the Triangle. The beans are roasted onsite and the coffee is reliably good. Staff are very well trained on making espresso drinks. One quirk is their cortado is called a 1:1. The golden milk is great as are their homemade syrups. Baked goods are hit and miss. No tipping because the cafe pays a living wage. Expect polite professional service but not Southern charm. Owner was the former bean buyer for Blue Bottle coffee in SF. It’s a great cafe.

I only ordered a hot chocolate, but it was excellent, including the whipped cream. Service was friendly and quick. It is a great place to meet someone as there are plenty of places to sit at a table or bench and a spacious outdoor patio. There were some cookies/pastries for sale, but not a wide selection

The place used to be great. Now the coffee is lukewarm, even so when I ask for extra hot. Also needs some deep cleaning.

This was such a great find for a cafe where one could down and work! There was a ton of seating options indoors and outdoors, though I’m not sure if many of the spots have a convenient wall outlet. I was there all morning, and it felt like there was always a nice amount of buzz from other customers, a good ambience for me to focus.
Coffee was pretty good, and I also ordered the vegan peanut butter no-bake cookie, but it was quite sweet. Overall, great cafe! Would definitely come back!
Dietary restrictions: They had milk alternatives (at least oat milk, didn’t ask about others), and also a vegan cookie option.

Good coffee but pastries were clearly old and very dry to the point of being inedible. Staff not the friendliest.

This is the first review I’ve written, but I had to write one because I was thrilled with the chai latte, service, and overall vibe. First, they were incredibly friendly to me and my dog. When I ordered, I braced myself as they turned the iPad around for them to ask for a $3 tip for a $5 latte like all these other places, but they did not ask for a tip at all!! Honestly they had me at no tipping because tipping culture is heinous, but then they made my latte in like 5 seconds even though it was very busy. The latte was wonderful and I love that everything is compostable. There was plenty of outdoor seating with a water bowl for my dog. Definitely will be going back again next time I’m in Carrboro.
Gray Squirrel is everything I love in a coffee shop - delicious, well executed coffees, friendly and welcoming team and atmosphere, quick service. Other things to love? Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, creative baked goods - not just same old options, and I really appreciate that their employees are paid a living wage. Not pretentious at all, family and dog friendly. Great place to visit!

From a straight double espresso to my S/O's iced vanilla latte, we had no complaints here. My experience with the roasted beans has been great at home with my Chemex and French press as well!
