My husband and I are former restaurant owners. He is a trained chef and I have waited tables in more restaurants than I can count. We also travel to Mexico a lot. Monterrey has been our favorite Mexican restaurant for years because they believe in excellent service, high quality food, and a festive atmosphere. It is is a pleasure to have dinner at Monterrey. It is clearly one of the most well-run restaurants in the area. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

Been to this restaurant many times. The food is always good and reasonably priced. Cool interior with great artwork on the walls with numerous TVs showing sports. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They have the best salsa to go with their chips. And I've found my new favorite lunch, ACP with vegetables. Delicious.

The best most authentic Mexican food in Carrboro! Placed a togo order 10mins red before close and the staff was as friendly as if I was their first customer of the night!

I also thought it was going to be more of a hole in the wall judging from the outside but it's super nice (and big!) inside. Parking was easy, it's located in Carrboro Plaza so plenty of spaces. Our waiters were great, attentive and friendly. The menu prices are definitely more expensive than your typical casual Mexican restaurant, although being that it's located to Chapel Hill this may be on par (I'm not a CH local). We came in for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon and were sat immediately. There's tons of tables and the bar is huge. My friend got the Birria Tacos and a Raspberry Marg. She loved them! A great first birria experience for her. I got the Enchiladas Sampler which was so, so good. Again, was pleasantly surprised. It's a shredded chicken enchilada covered with mole sauce, shredded beef enchilada with ranchera sauce, and spinach enchilada with salsa verde. Everything was really fresh and hot. The salsa is spicy (but not too spicy) and flavorful. I probably wouldn't drive way out of my way to go, but I'll definitely be back here! I like that it's close enough to the university (I work there) for convenience/lunch, but far enough out of the way to miss the constant crowds and traffic. A solid option for Mexican food in the area, for sure!

PLEASE DoO NOT waste your money on this place !! the lady who decorates and Sets up party is soo UNPROFEzsIOnal !! She woudnt let family in . Her attitude is nasty and Salon is soooo smalll !!! They lie about package prize i suggest dGetting something better smh ! This salon sucks ! I DO NOT RECOMMEND . They were also towing cars and for what reason .?!!

Honestly, I don't recommend it. The rules they use are the same as those in the restaurant and that's not okay. A lounge is different from a restaurant. It's okay if they want to rent it like that, but I don't think it's the client who pays and they impose their rules.

A regular spot for us. Margaritas are on the sweeter side but they're fun and big. They have the best ACP which is essentially ordered on every visit for us. Also great salsa. Fast, hot, fresh, and consistent.

The room is elegant inside but the waiters in particular, a chubby man with glasses is very rude to the guests of the event (he kept shouting), They are very special about everything that can be done in the room, they do not allow drinks and tea They charge $20 for margaritas from the restaurant attached to one's party. Visiting my daughter in Chapel Hill, we went here for dinner and it didn't disappoint. I will begin with how friendly and attentive the staff was. Multiple servers stopped by to make sure they were meeting our expectations. Beverages, chips and salsa were always full. The food was great! I'll begin by apologizing for not taking any pictures.....my bad. We tried the Arroz con Pollo and it was quite good. I wondered about the cheese and it definitely complimented the dish. I highly recommend Enchilada Sampler. I never had a spinach enchilada before and I must say it was great. The salsa verde on top brought it all together. The other two were chicken with a mole sauce and shredded beef with a ranchero sauce. We also had surf and turf tacos that were outstanding.....great flavor, fresh veggies and pico, and a side of rice the steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly. I will say either come hungry or expect to bring some food home....the portions are big! Great experience and definitely will come back.

Typical ambiance at this Mexican restaurant. The service was attentive and speedy. The food was delicious. The complimentary chips came with a bowl of salsa for each diner - double dipped to our hearts delight!! Tableside guacamole and a churros cart for dessert was fun.

The food here is great. They were decently busy for lunch. We got here about 12:30-1:00. Music is pretty loud and dim lighting but it is a nice atmosphere. We got a table right away, chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. They had drink menu and lunch menu as well as a normal menu. Everyone really enjoyed the food. You get a lot of food so don't be scared if you see prices ranging up to about $20 for a meal, you will get a lot! Our server was very friendly and constantly kept the chips and salsa full and the drinks topped off. I highly recommend this place if you are close to chapel hill or Carrboro!

The owner was very picking on letting the family members that came to help out and set up the desert table. She wouldn’t let them use the kitchen or even let them wash their fruit. She told them they had to go outside and wash their items/fruits with the water hose. She isn’t very humble. DONT RECOMMEND RENTING HERE!!
