My favorite BBQ place ?. The pulled pork is juicy and a little spicy ?. Pairs very well with the simply prepared cole slaw. The french fries are better than most. But the thing I like best is the home made Brunswick stew ??. If you're making the trip to get some, call ahead first because it runs out often. Love ? the rustic and nostalgic atmosphere, charming.
This is hands-down, one of my favorite mom and pop stops for barbecue or fish. Since I’m a creature of habit, I generally get the same thing over and over again. So at this establishment, I generally get the flounder sandwich with lettuce and pickles and hot sauce and it is fantastic! I would recommend this spot to anybody who is anywhere near Pinehurst North Carolina. The people are fantastic and extremely friendly. and the service is wonderful.

I visited Stubbs at roughly the end of a 13 hour road trip (ok, there was one overnight 9 hours into that) from MA to NC. There was no way that I was going to have driven all the way to North Carolina without eating authentic eastern North Carolina barbecue. Stubbs totally fit the bill. It's in an entirely unassuming building that looks like it at one time might have been a house, but has clearly been home to the restaurant for many years. But whatever. You're not at Stubbs for the atmosphere (not that there's anything wrong with the ambiance...it's eastern Carolina roadside barbecue.). You're here for the food and in that sense, Stubbs does not disappoint. The pork was fresh, moist, and well-seasoned. Perfect. The sides were abundant and well prepared (slaw, greens, stewed beans, etc.). And the hushpuppies were sweet and crisp and not at all greasy. Plus, the staff - particularly the guy taking orders - were kind and accommodating (taking time to answer questions and explain things to my traveling companion who was not particularly schooled in the subtleties of regional barbecue varieties...which is a critical skill if one is going to navigate North Carolina's unique and sometimes contentious barbecue environment). Everyone here was having a good time and yet were taking care of the business of making and selling some of the best barbecue I've had regardless of style or location. If I lived around Carthage, I'd be going here for takeout pretty much weekly. While on a road trip, it's a must-stop location.
