An amazing special occasion experience. The food was plated beautifully in small portions so that you can try several things. The bread is delicious but don't fill up on it so you can enjoy the creative courses to come.
My wife and I went for our 10 year anniversary. We did the chef's tasting menu. Every course was unique and delicious. Very well curated. Service and ambiance were both fantastic. It was expensive but worth the price.
Herons delivers flawless service, refined dishes, and a calm, luxurious atmosphere. It’s easily one of the best fine-dining experiences in the Triangle—expensive, but the execution justifies every bit of it.

Wow-this place has declined. Not the same allure as years past. Service was TERRIBLE, as in the worst of any restaurant I have been to. I really thought the waiter was trying his hardest to be rude and terrible. Took 30 minutes to get routine cocktails and no mention of the fact that it was taking a long time to get them, until I asked if we would be getting our cocktails. A server came by and asked “how is everything so far?” & all that we had been served was water. It was a big birthday for someone in my party and we left with them being disappointed and unsatisfied. I'm sad that this is not the upscale establishment that used to be held in high regard.
My favorite restaurant in North Carolina. Absolutely exquisite tasting menu, excellent service and delicious, unique wine. Wanted to try something new and I fell in love with a Mexican Baja Grenache. Michelin Guide should have given them 2 stars. I don’t know who they sent to taste but they were asleep at the wheel.

This is a review for the bar menu. The service is great, it can get a bit loud in there. The bar menu food is on the higher end but presentation/flavor is only average for its price. For 2 drinks and 2 appetizer it’s about ~80 excluding tip. IMO there are other high end/classy restaurants that are cheaper with better food. Will not go back again.

We had an incredible experience at Herons for our 5 year Anniversary dinner. From the moment we sat down, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and taken care of. We chose the chef’s five-course tasting menu, and every single course was a work of art—beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and full of creativity.
Each dish felt thoughtful and intentional, and the pacing of the meal was spot-on. The service was attentive but never rushed, and every staff member seemed to take real pride in what they do. The calm, elegant setting made it even more enjoyable—it felt like an escape.
Herons is easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had in North Carolina. A perfect place for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself to something unforgettable.

Last weekend, we spent 48 glorious hours onshore celebrating my husband’s birthday. We arrived a night early of our third party member and caught a glimpse of the tasting menu. The standout was the compassion of one of the “Hannah’s” on my palate: well, my husband chose the wine pairing and had a perfect accompaniment to each course, I simply cannot keep up. I stated that and asked that she take pity on my slow pace and compare me for somebody who cannot keep pace. Hannah gave me a perfect accompaniment to both the first three and final two courses before rising to the occasion for a perfect pairing to dessert. This set the stage for the main event and Chef Greene’s tasting menu the second night. The making of both memories and dreams- a balance of molecular and traditional. My biggest Takeaway was simply than I have had tasting menus from Miami to New York City and everywhere in between and I’ve always left hungry. You ruin an experience with takeout pizza after a tasting menu, or so I’ve been told. This was not the case on either night. The portions satisfied. Finally. On this return trip to where I was born and raised, we all left satisfied with plans to come back as soon as we possibly can.

Great breakfast for a morning meeting. Service was excellent and the food and fresh juice was great!
Chef's sampler with wine pairings was excellent. Service is always outstanding. Wines choices were wonderful and somewhat exotic.
We were so looking forward to having dinner at Herons. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and though that was noted when we made the reservation, nothing was said when we arrived or at any point during our dinner. Strange. We were seated at a comfortable table and after perusing the menu made our selections. The food and presentation started out great. The squash soup was a highlight and the serving dishes and squash blossom on the side were a sight to behold. Everything was going well until a man and his young son were seated next to us between our second and third course. The boy proceeded to lay down on the banquette and start playing on an ipad with the volume up loud enough for us to hear it. Seriously? In this restaurant? Now mind you, we have kids and we love kids, but an ipad completely ruined the vibe. I politely asked if we could be moved and the hostess seemed a little flustered but moved us to an even better table. Our server then came over and explained that the boy was sick and that's why he was laying down with his ipad. I smiled and said, that's unfortunate but the hotel does have room service. No response. My duck was chewy and our service wasn't great after I asked to be moved. No manager ever came by to check on us, no one apologized for the interruption. It was like we shouldn't have complained and that we were in the wrong. We finished our meal, nothing was said about our anniversary and we both agreed that our appetizers and drinks at the Umstead bar were a way better experience than dinner.
What an amazing place to have dinner. The food was top notch and the service was even better. The chef is top notch, and the serves were amazing to talk to. Will defiantly be coming back again.

The waiters and ambiance were both exceptional. Drinks were good as well. The food itself… disappointing. I’ve had much better tasting food at Rosewater. A one and done place for sure considering I paid about 500$ between my wife and I. The price itself isn’t the issue, but the food should be spectacular. It fell well short of that.
