I had been weighing leaving this review because I have dined at this So Hot restaurant location once before and enjoyed my first time there. The service and food were great that first time, which is why I was excited to eat here again tonight. However, my experience tonight fell very short of my previous experience.
First issue: Reservations. This first issue is minor, but I think it’s worth mentioning in case it’s helpful to anyone. I made reservations tonight for 6:30pm, which I thought might be beneficial since I thought perhaps it might be crowded around that time. I turned out to be correct as there was a line when we arrived at 6:30pm. We alerted the host who was seating groups that we have reservations. However, that didn’t seem to matter as it seems like it is first come, first serve at this restaurant and people were seated ahead of us regardless of whether they made reservations. No harm, no foul as there were plenty of tables available. However, I think a restaurant should prioritize people who have reservations at their scheduled time, especially since upon making a reservation one is informed that tables are only held for 10 min.
The second issue: Food Safety, a major issue. While eating at the restaurant, I found a plastic wrapper mixed in with the broth. This concerned me as it had been cooking with the food and I was afraid chemicals from the cooked plastic would leach in with the food. My party notified our waitress about the issue. The host was also present while bringing up the plastic concern. The waitress and host both told us that it was crab shell from the imitation crab that was accidentally left on by their cook. They spun a story saying that customers are generally not aware that there is a crab shell that is wrapped around the imitation crab and that the cook typically removes it before serving to the customers. I unfortunately believed and trusted their story and continued eating the food and we took home the leftovers (the waitress had offered to allow us to take home the food waste for $6 and said the price was typically $15). In the car, I reflected on the situation and thought something just didn’t feel right. I researched imitation crab to see if there are shells wrapped around them. There aren’t, but they are, in fact, wrapped…in plastic! I immediately tossed away my leftovers from that restaurant. I am extremely hurt and disappointed that the restaurant chose to play on my ignorance about imitation crab and lied, so that they wouldn’t have to replace the broth because it would be at their own expense. The restaurant chose their business over customers’ health and safety. It is for this reason that I will not return to So-Hot. Had the restaurant have admitted to their mistake of leaving plastic on the imitation crab and replaced the broth, I wouldn’t be leaving this kind of review. But instead, they chose to lie and disregard the health risk and make it seem like they were doing us a favor by allowing us to take home the contaminated food at a “discount.” Food safety should be a restaurant’s priority and it wasn’t for this one.

I went here with two of my friends. I had the soy puff, fried bean curds, soft tofu, Napa cabbage, mushrooms, and bok choy while they ordered meat, udon, and glass noodles with the beef broth.
Let me say that I'm very suprised but glad this place has vegetarian options and that the hot pot flavors go from the mildest to the spiciest choice! I also appreciate the sauce station. I like the vinegar and soy sauce and I love that there’s also cilantro and green scallions as toppings.
For the drinks, I had the milk Thai tea. I was surprised at how big the cup is! Definitely a happy customer.
Our waitress, Sandy, was very polite and helpful.
No complaints here. I would love to come back one day.
