I thought the burgers were a bit expensive for the amount provided. My burger ended up falling apart due to the lettuce being slippery, making the eating experience not that fun. Service was good.

I went here a few years ago and I loved their burger and the chocolate shake. Today, I went back and things have significantly changed. There's no way my burger was cooked to order--the runner dropped it off at my table about a minute after I'd say down--and the milkshake had been pre-made and pulled from a cooler, which made it a bit more difficult to drink. That, however, wasn't the problem; the problem is that it's a few hours after my visit and I am really, really sick. Since this was the only thing I ate today and since I got sick so quickly after eating there, I'm pretty concerned it's food poisoning and I'm worried it came from my ready-too-quickly-to-be-fresh burger. I'm not trying to be ugly, I'm just trying to make the business aware. I'd still go back to Al's in the future for the chocolate milkshake (hard to drink or not, it's still delicious) and the tater tots.

One of the many great places in Chapel Hill, but there's a reason I come here almost every time I visit the area. Great service, the burgers are delicious, fries are perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the dipping sauces are dangerously good. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good burger.

I had this burger for the first time 7 years ago when I toured UNC. It blew my mind, and every burger I had afterward was tainted by the immaculate memory of the classic cheeseburger I ate at Al’s burger shack. This burger made me want to go to UNC more than their admissions department. However, fate had other plans. I ultimately attended another university, but thought of this burger semi annually, primarily in my dreams during times of deep slumber. I had visions of the warm, succulent bun pressed against my lips and flavors only known to the lord above.Fast forward 6 years, I found myself in the area again. The burger was calling my name from miles away, and I had to obey. To put the burger to the test, I ate a full meal before heading to Al’s, in a mislead perception that the burger was only so delicious since I was ravenous. Al’s stood up to the test, and blew my mind once more.I just ate at Al’s for the third time in my life, and it may be my happy place. No other burger compares, and please eat here for a life-changing, semi religious experience.Oh also the service is good.-yours truly

I got a take out burger from this place and it was pretty enjoyable. I also tried all three sides (tater tots, fries, and sweet potato fries), but I think I'll only get the tater tots next time. Food was a fair price and the workers were kind. I like that there are so many sauces to choose from, but I enjoyed the house sauce the best. I will come again next time I'm craving a burger.
