Azucar Cuban Restaurant

It was our first time visiting this restaurant on a Sunday. The location is very active and busy, but we were able to find parking easily. The restaurant seems small on the outside, but it's a decent size with plenty of room around the tables. The outside and inside is clean and neat. The chairs were slightly uncomfortable and we requested a larger table since the two-person table was on the smaller side. The menu is small, but the variety is plentiful. We ordered ropa vieja and masas with water. The ropa vieja tasted good, but it had more vegetables than meat. That was disappointing because the portion size is on the smaller side. The white rice and beans were plentiful, but there's no substitutions so my wife gave me the black beans. It's $26.00 which is high because of the amount of meat provided. The masas was not a disappointment. It tasted great and the portion size was plentiful. It's $24.00 which is not too bad especially the masas weren't as greasy in comparison to other restaurants in the area. As for the service, there were only 2 tables occupied and not once did the server (Randolf) asked us if we needed anything. He took our order, and another person dropped off the dishes and that was it. We were waiting patiently for our check, but it appears it's a family owned restaurant because he went outside to hug the lady that served us while we waited to get our check. Hence, the reason I gave this restaurant three stars. This restaurant can be more successful if they look at their portion size for the ropa vieja, and ramp up the service. We will contemplate to visit this restaurant as we've visited comparable restaurants in the vicinity that had better service, better portion size, and cheaper costs.

The food was great and the atmosphere was okay.
The service started off nice, but unfortunately, no one came back to check on our table after serving the food. The staff seemed more focused on their phone in the back than on attending to customers.

An absolute must visit, I was so happy to find this corner of Latin heaven, food is packed with so much flavor and color, cafecito, Cuban pastries, rabo encendido ohh man is so good,,,🙈 service is outstanding, music, cocktails and so much more. Lunch specials are incredible and affordable. I went , ate and had dinner to go, everything is so yummy 😋, highly recommend it. Great environment!! A place for everyone to experience. You won’t be disappointed, I promise. Sorry, next time I’ll have food pictures

We go to this restaurant often, the service is very good, the food also great. The dish I order more often is the Toston, is delicious, the combination of black beans, shrimp, toston and their special sauce is very tasty. I tried another dish, pollo guisado and I wasn't impressed with it the chicken breast was tasteless by itself, only when I combined the meat with the sauce the taste will improve. I will come back also el cafe cortadito is strong and the right sweetness for me.

A hidden gem in the heart of Ballantyne. Authentic Cuban food at a very reasonable price. They make a killer 10 oz sangria for only $4.99 which is bottomless during brunch on Saturdays and Sundays!

First time there on a date night and it was Amazing!!!! I mean everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be a repeat customer because this little gem has the best Cuban food in Charlotte and surrounding cities hands down!

This spot is an absolute find! The food is fabulous, the cocktails are delicious, and the service is excellent. We were fortunate enough to have Carolina both times we've been here. She was knowledgeable of the menu, attentive to us, and genuinely cared about our experience. Their menu is an absolute win. Every item is authentic and delectable. We had the Masas. Simply divine And the roasted chicken. Juicy and tender. Oh and the pitcher of mojitos. Yum!!!! A must try for visitors and locals.

Went to this restaurant with my wife to try Cuban dishes and the food itself was ok but location is great. Atmosphere was loud with live music but was ok too. Ordered sea bass and was found to lack flavor and was bland.

I was so happy that we decided to try a Cuban restaurant near our home. Azucar turned out to be a great choice with great food fun atmosphere and the best of all GREAT SERVICE! Thanks guys for making this one of the best outing for y Birthday in a long time. See you again very soon
