“I've visited Idlewild twice since moving to an apartment practically behind it, and it's already become one of my favorite spots in Charlotte.
The vibe is moody, inviting, a little sexy, and somehow both sophisticated and completely unpretentious. Both times we've visited, the host greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome.
We've only grabbed spots at the standing bar, but Jacob has been our bartender both visits and he's been fantastic. Fun, engaging, and most importantly, makes a great cocktail.
What makes Idlewild special is that there isn't a menu. You simply describe what you're in the mood for, and they make the magic happen. Every drink we've had was outstanding.
It's the perfect place to take out-of-town guests when you want to show off Charlotte, and it's also a great date-night spot. You'll look like you're in the know when you bring someone here.
Now that I live so close, it's going to be very hard to walk by without stopping in.”

“We held my daughter’s celebratory graduation dinner from UNCC at Barcelona Wine Bar this past weekend, and it was absolutely perfect! I planned the event far in advance with Tiana, their Sales & Events Manager, and she was thorough, communicative and handled it all like a pro, including a last minute change to the menu that she texted to me (smart). She arranged for printed menus with the event name (lovely detail!) and because they can’t include mussels, her favorite, on an event menu (understandable), they surprised us and sent her some anyway on the house. Our main server (I’m blanking on her name so sorry we love you so much!!) and our bar servers, Morgan and Justin (who we kept busy 🤣), should win personality of the year awards for their wit, humor, charm and skill (for instance, Morgan wowed us with his tapas plate stacking ability and made sure to holler in my Mama’s good ear when he spoke 🤣). It was great fun, and the food was DELISH!! Highly recommend for events and also looks like a fun place to just hang out!”

“This was a great choice for my first visit to a Waffle House. I loved the wall of windows and natural light.

Our server was so helpful with menu suggestions and answering my questions. The coffee was excellent, and she kept my cup full. We started with the cheesy grits and OMG! We devoured that! I don't normally eat American cheese, but I liked it on the grits. They were so creamy and tasty!

Next, we ordered the Grilled Chicken plate, Cheesesteak and Cheese Eggs breakfast, and added on a pecan waffle. I added grilled onion to the cheesesteak and hash browns; highly recommend. The food came out piping hot, smelled amazing, and was soooo tasty. The grilled chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned. I ate everything on my plate except for the waffle; that was my only disappointment. It was doughy and too dense; I only took a few bites.

I see why people love Waffle House, but I've heard that they're not all created the same, lol. This one is super nice, bright, and clean, with amazing food and coffee.”

We had Cole as our server and regardless of how busy it was that night, he made us feel like we were his only priority. He was very knowledgeable about your massive spirit selections and I mean massive! The food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. We got the Really Good Burger and let me tell you, we said medium and it was on point! It was very well seasoned which is rare when you go out to restaurants. Then to top off the night, my daughter got the beignets with the cold brew icing, WOW! I am a sweets person and these with that icing just WOW! Cole even put a candle on the rim of the dish because it was her birthday! So, you have our business any time we are in Charlotte! I just can’t say enough about our experience!!! “Visiting Charlotte from New Hampshire, but had scouted out this place before we came. Interestingly enough, it appeared on the list of recommended places from our Airbnb hosts as well. We are very into the farm to table movement, big time Farmers market shoppers ourselves as well. The staff was very friendly, and more importantly, knowledgeable about the menu. Everything was excellent. They were very helpful in accommodating a honey allergy, even whipping up an alternative dressing for the salad we ordered. For the record, the kale salad we had was beyond exceptional. I am not exaggerating when I say that is was the best salad I have eaten in my 65 years! Recommended unconditionally. A must-stop for our next trip to Charlotte.”

My only complaint is we asked to keep the price comparable and they sent a $20 more expensive bottle. I ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly. We were there for a birthday and they sent a complimentary champagne flute for all 9 of us in our party. Amazing. I like the interior of this location more than the others. But no exterior compares to the Dilworth location.”

My love for food? 100% from him. The McNinch House has been on my list for over a decade—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Executive Chef Eric O’Connor, who joined just a year ago, blew us away. We had the 4-course tasting menu (I truly don’t know how people survive the 5-course!), and every dish was a standout: *Corn & Clam Chowder – the cream is everything *Bone Marrow – best I’ve ever had *Lamb Lollipops (my husbands) – best I’ve ever had; perfectly cooked *Pork Wellington (my husbands) – the basil took it over the top *Snapper Succotash – the bacon made it *Crème Brûlée – perfectly done From the surprise oyster starter (cool presentation served in a shell over ice) to the palate-cleansing sorbet between courses, every detail was thoughtful and special. Chef Eric personally served our entrée—how cool is that? The service was impeccable, with a main server and 2-3 others helping throughout. At the end, they even handed me a freshly picked rose from their garden. 💐 We dined in a historic 1800s home filled with charm, and afterward strolled through the garden—flowers everywhere, twinkle lights, fountains, and the Charlotte skyline in view. I had to ask for the chef’s autograph and a photo—he’s just that good. We told him he deserves a star, and he smiled and said, “We’re on the list.” So now I’m shouting from the rooftops: let’s help make that Michelin star happen! He absolutely deserves it. “The prix fixe menu is surprisingly expansive and doesn't feel limiting at all. We took a risk on the ricotta to go with the house-made focaccia that comes out as a starter, even though others said it wasn't worth it. Do not skip this. It's some of the best ricotta we've had, and it pairs perfectly with the focaccia.

Every dish was executed extremely well. The plating was excellent, the portions were just right, and the pasta was the clear star. The sweet potato agnolotti was a standout for us.

Service was excellent throughout. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and walked us through the whole experience.

This may be Charlotte's hidden gem, and quite possibly one of its best restaurants. Highly recommend.”

I had a group of five 10-year-olds (plus a few others), and the staff was incredibly patient as the kids figured out what they wanted to order. They even let us sample the chicken wings before choosing—huge win! The wings were delicious—especially the Strawberry Hot flavor, which is now officially my favorite! While we were enjoying our food, a man came in and sat down nearby—we thought he was just another customer, but it turns out he was the owner! He was so kind and invited my daughter (the birthday girl) and her friend to take on the 60-second wing challenge for a chance to win $50. My daughter won, and when the owner asked if she wanted to give her $50 to her friend, she said yes—and then he surprised her by giving her $100! Such a kind and thoughtful gesture. To top it all off, the staff sang Happy Birthday to my daughter and brought her a slice of cake. 🥹❤️ The avocado side salad was also super fresh and tasty. The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly, and the service was fast. Highly recommend—this place made our celebration so special!”

“We ordered takeout from Showmars yesterday (Sunday, May 5 2026) and everything was perfect! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were craving. Everything was correctly prepared, nicely packaged, and clearly labeled, which made unpacking at home super easy. A special shoutout to the cashier, Carol, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. “I had lunch today with my friends here and the food was delicious and genuine. It's not easy to find a restaurant that has real Cuban food. My wife and I were born in Cuba and miss this kind of food. She had the 'vaca frita' and I had 'masas de puerco'. Everything was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender with genuine flavor. The mojitos were also delicious. Our compliments to the chef and staff. If you want to taste real Cuban food, we highly recommend this restaurant.”

“Kelly, our server was absolutely fantastic - The Best Server I have seen in any restaurant - 5 STAR Service - She did a wonderful job. However, the food quality was not up to par this evening. I had the Surf & Turf and the Lobster was overcooked. Another party had a Hamburger and was not satisfied with the quality & taste. The manager came over and took care of everything very professionally for which we very much appreciated his involvement. For that reason, we will come back to Firebirds in Stonecrest again.”

We had great service from our server Noah, who was very quick to take our drink order and provided attentive service for our entire dinner. We both ordered a Chimichangas (my wife had the chicken and I had the beef). Both were delicious, well seasoned and served hot. (fwiw) noted the staff were sweeping and cleaning the restaurant tables quickly, after a table turned.”

“I live right around the corner, and this has quickly become one of my favorite places in Charlotte. I can’t say enough about the staff! Jesse, Ryan, Abby, and the entire team, as well as the owner, Eloy. They have created a place that feels genuinely welcoming every single time I walk through the door.

There is something very special about the atmosphere here. It is warm, sophisticated, and beautifully executed without ever feeling pretentious despite getting Michelin recognition. The lighting, music, and overall design are exceptional, and the bar is easily one of my favorites in Charlotte. It’s just so well done.

Rada also makes, hands down, the best martinis in the city. I’m not sure what comes in second. Every dish I’ve had has been thoughtful, layered, and so well done, with a level of creativity and attention to detail that really stands out.

More than anything, this is the kind of restaurant that makes you want to keep coming back. It feels polished and elevated, but still personal and comfortable. Almost like coming home. I brought my wife here for her birthday, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, we were treated incredibly well. The hospitality, the service, and the overall atmosphere were beyond our expectations. We have rarely, if ever, been treated this well at a restaurant!

The food was delicious, but what truly made our experience unforgettable was the outstanding customer service. A very special thank you to Troy, our server, who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He was attentive, kind, professional, and genuinely made us feel special. He made my wife’s birthday even more memorable, and we truly appreciate the effort he put into making our visit so wonderful.

“I had the hamburger at Painted Rooster, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor was great, and I also really enjoyed the coleslaw. The service was good, and overall I had a very pleasant experience.

My only suggestion would be to make the hamburger a little bigger or offer a larger portion. After finishing the burger and the coleslaw, I was still a little hungry. The quality and taste are definitely there—just a little more food would make the experience even better.

If there's no pop-up happening: plan to order delivery to the patio & stay for a while; Subs doesn't have a kitchen.”
