Cocoa's Authentic Jamaican Jerk

I was excited when I saw the sign for Cocoa's. I got home with over $30 worth of food for myself & my ex. Both plates were inedible. The peas & rice was not cooked. The oxtails were tough and impossible to eat. The beef patty was burnt. Do yourself a favor & save your money. Both plates were thrown in the garbage & I HATE wasting food.

First timer!!! Food was good and customer experience also. Received plenty Oxtails tender, cabbage and yams were also delicious!!! Definitely recommend. The smoke pit outside was truly a fresh effect!!! I couldn’t take picture of food, ITS ALL READY GONE!!!

Okay so boom I came here because I really wanted to find a good Jamaican spot as l just moved to the area. AS A BORN AND RAISED JAMAICAN this place was very disappointing, I should have saved my money. I called and ordered Jerk Pork, Festival and a beef patty and she told me to come on in. I get here and tell them I don't want the rice and cabbage that comes with the meal and ask for baked beans instead (I said this multiple times) I was okay with paying the extra. I get my food and go to my car (I should have checked my plate in the store that is on me) the jerk pork looks fine but there is no baked beans and no beef patty. THEN I take a look at the festival and I almost screamed!! I close the plate and go back inside and speak with the cashier telling her what I was missing and that I didn't like the festival at all. Now I already see the sign that says no refunds so I don't even bother asking for one. I instead ask for a different side. The cashier says she supposedly didn't ring me up for the baked beans or beef patty and then says I need to talk to the owner about the festival. Keep in mind I am trying to be nice as there are others waiting to order as well. I speak with the owner about the festival and she says I must have been wanting fried dumplings when I ordered the festival (I know that festival is supposed to look like) but anyways I then ask for another side and she says okay she can give me mac and cheese. I said fine and asked about the baked beans and she says they did not charge me for it. I don't argue I just wait for the mac and cheese and leave. Also let me add that the cashier kept saying she didn't hear me say a beef patty but I said this multiple times on the phone and in person, but I digress as I wasn't charge for it. Overall I do not recommend this place to anyone at alll!!! And I have a feeling the owner will respond to this and whatever the response may be l have said my piece and I know I am telling the truth. Alsooo I tipped!! $40 dollars down the drain.

Soooooo I like the locations vibes and I think the greeter and cashier was nice and super friendly but for the fact that they have false advertisement is why I’m here today.
So they have a sign that says 10.99 oxtails from 11-1pm. I was returning a rental and awaiting my uber from Avis so I decided to walk over and give them a try.
As soon as I mentioned the oxtails she said that wasn’t correct. Myself and 2 others came to the restaurant after seeing the sign outside.
Sooo I ended up ordering the oxtails and they were a 4.5/10 nothing I would buy again.
Thee serving was small, the larger oxtails were nowhere near falling off the bone and I spent 26.00 and was hungry in an hour all because of an inaccurate sign.

They probably wouldn’t have business if it were not for that sign. I think it’s a messed up strategy to gain customers when the oxtails aren’t that great anyway. So glad u didn’t try the Mac and cheese:
Will not be back, do not recommend.

This place was so good! If I lived in the state, I’d be coming here all the time. Food was amazing and the owner is the sweetest woman! Highly recommend!

This is not it …. The Jerk is way too hot .. so hot you can’t taste the flavor. The portion size was good but the price point at $17.50 is too much. The rice and peas was dry and had no seasoning. The cabbage had way too much seasoning. The chicken was not dry, but everything seems like it had been warmed up in the microwave…. I wanted to like this place. The service was good, friendly and nice.

The sticker code was still on the green pepper in my cooked food. They sold me expired pineapple ginger juice. I've never returned.

Worst Jamaican food in Charlotte! The prices on the website does not match what they charge in the store! My mom spent $80 on food just for it to be disgusting. The curry chicken was $17 but online the price is $12 which is about right at any other Jamaican spot. The chicken is dry and you can’t enjoy it if you wanted to without crunching bones and gristle. The cabbage is NASTY! HORRIBLEEEEEEEEEE I wouldn’t feed it to a dog! Caribbean hut would’ve NEVER played with me like this.

Sautéed shrimp order had no butter sauce and the shrimp were not fresh. Shrimp had frost bites and you could tell and see the shrimp were cooked while still frozen. Very disappointed!
