It was our first time there. The bartender was a nice guy. Running the bar and taking orders at the tables, he needs a raise. I asked for no salt on my burger and fries because I have high blood pressure and he made sure I got just that. My man and I both had the Comet Classic with fries. Hand patted meat and hand cut fries. Tell the cook he did an awesome job at making sure my meat was fully cooked yet not burnt. If we weren't leaving Charlotte tomorrow, we would come back again.

I had a really disappointing experience at The Comet Grill. I watched the cook repeatedly touch a dirty rag and then handle my sandwich without changing gloves or washing his hands. When I brought it to the owner’s attention, she was dismissive and had an attitude, even though another customer witnessed the same thing. Instead of apologizing or addressing the issue, she asked, ‘What do you want me to do?’
This used to be a great spot—I’ve been here before, about a year ago, and I’m from out of town (South Carolina). A proper response would have been to apologize, remake the sandwich, and ensure the cook received proper sanitation training.
I felt like I might as well have been eating off the ground, considering how filthy the rag was. They did eventually remake my order, and I still left an $11 tip because that’s just who I am, but the experience was completely unacceptable.
