We always enjoy Malaya Kitchen. Any time I am in town now we try to make at least one trip for takeout. The sesame chicken is by far the best. I wish we could get that near the coast! Such a wonderful family restaurant and we’re so happy they are still going strong after so many years. ❤️

I don’t think this was intentional but when I took a bite into one of the pieces from the chicken satay that we ordered it was raw and unfortunately made me feel so uneasy that I couldn’t enjoy the rest of my meal. I would have loved to be able to have a good experience but I don’t think I would come again after biting into raw meat.

The food was fresh and AMAZING. The customer service was a 10 out of 10. Didn’t get the lady’s name, but she treated me and my daughter like family.

Decided to try a new place for my favorite Asian dish General tsos chicken. 14 dollars for a lunch special is alot in my opinion. Also I get it's a lunch portion, but man it was the smallest lunch special I've ever seen. The sauce itself is watery and severely lacking in flavor. The chicken and rice itself was good. Chicken crispy and juicy.

Scratch cooking can be found here. No frills atmosphere, but if you like good curry and solid Malay food this is an amazing spot. Try the Hainan chicken - unique. The Laksa is great too.

*** Beware of 25% gratitude automatically charged to your bill if you are a party of 5 or more. Food quality was OK. We ordered a few varieties of food and most of them had the same flavor and couldn't tell the difference. We were a family of 3 kids and 2 adults. This restaurant automatically charged 25% gratitude to my credit card with no option for us to change it. (20% auto gratitude for a party of 6 or more adults is heard of but not for a family of 3 kids and 2 adults.) They expected additional tips on top of 25%.

Malaya Kitchen is one of my go to restaurants in Charlotte. I love Asian cuisines and have been eating it since a very early age. I have been to Malaysia and I can assure that their food is authentic and expertly prepared. Everything I have had has been excellent but there are several dishes that I enjoy tremendously and go back for over and over. My absolute favorite dish is Beef Rendang. Other dishes that I really like are Belican Beef with Okra, Spicy Jalapeno Beef, Chili Chicken, Mango Chicken (especially when mangoes are in season) Curry Chicken and Spicy Cilantro Chicken.
They have daily lunch specials from 11AM - 3PM and the food comes out very quickly.
The atmosphere is nice and the service is always fantastic.

What a let down. Everything was bland and watered down.

Roti Telur came with a VERY thin curry, as opposed to to the thick flavorful one you’d expect. Rendang was not spicy and could’ve used more flavor and came with pineapple and broccoli?! Belaclan I as 90% green bean with poke 10 small chicken pieces, also mostly bland. Laksa also tasted watered down.

It almost seemed like they started out good and someone thought they needed to wash off all the flavor because it was “too spicy.” They should focus on making real Malaysian food full of flavor and spice instead of catering to what they think local Americans want.

I don’t get any enjoyment out of leaving bad reviews for locally owned businesses. I ordered takeout, vegetable fried rice. I thought $16 was excessive for a normal sized round takeout container. The amount of grease was overwhelming and I couldn’t enjoy the food
