This was my first time because I don't live near here. It was soooo worth the drive. It's defintely the best West African food in Charlotte period! I wish they had a done in option so I could eat it immediately. Will DEFINITELY be back!

Was greeted at the door with big smiles from both customers and the staff (especially Kolby) It had been a while since I had African food and a woman was quick to point at her favorite so of course I said yes. Fortunately they still had some left as it was near closing because I heard if there is something you really favor, you should call ahead to reserve it. So delighted to have found this sweet spot. The flavors are rich yet not overdone. I had planned on saving some of the roasted chicken and plantain dish to share but gobbled it up. It was too good! I’m looking forward to going in early next week and bring home a few entrees for the family. There is not a place to dine in, but a comfortable area to wait. I highly suggest everyone try Mama Gee’s food and you will find yourself smiling too.

I recently traveled to the area and kept passing by Mama Gee, curious to see what this cozy spot was all about. After a quick Google search and some tempting photos, I made sure to arrive just in time before they closed. I was greeted by Kwabena, who not only took my order but also made things happen in the kitchen to ensure everything was perfect. The entire experience felt like a warm welcome home—the environment was clean, and the family members working there were genuinely kind and attentive, making me feel like part of their community.

When I finally got home with my food, I couldn’t wait to dive in—and wow, every bite was worth it! The flavors were authentic, rich, and clearly made with care. This was hands down one of the highlights of my trip, and I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m in town. Mama Gee’s is a hidden gem that deserves every bit of the praise it gets!

The people were nice told him it was the first time I only had jolee rice and plantains. My Mom had three same but with beef. The rice was SUPER SCORTCHED all you take and smell was burnt. I had to ask people of that was a flavor. HORRORABLE I love rice and they really messed that up both were Scorthed and dryyyy. NEVER AGAIN $31 BUCK FOR BURNT RICE

I ordered catering for my high school African American Studies class and it was a huge success! The students LOVED the food and the whole ordering process was seamless and easy because of their customer service. Pricing was fantastic too.

Came here yesterday with my boyfriend and it was delicious. The service was great and it was my first time trying some of these dishes and they explained to me the proper way to eat it without making me feel embarrassed. We're definitely coming back and I've recommended it to multiple people.

Very good place to grab food, the serving portions are extremely big and match with the prices. The plantains are really good! Will be going back!

Today was my first visit and will not be my last. Kobbi greeted me upon entering. He was pleasant and courteous. Once I got my meal (spinach egusi) in the car the aroma was very enticing it made me anxious to taste! I decided to take just one bite and it was so good i had a few more bites before heading home. Initially i was going to share with my husband but now he has to get his own because i can't stop eating it. I live 35 mins away and can say the drive was worth it. I will make my way back soon!

Good food, busy spot. TAKE OUT ONLY. If you have your heart set on a particular weekend specialty dish, plan ahead, and place your order a day ahead, otherwise you'll likely cry is disappointment to discover they're sold out by time you get there even at 4 in the afternoon! Many people call their orders in.

Average wait time for orders placed at the counter is around 20 min. There is no atmosphere to speak of, but you're not visiting for the atmosphere... your visiting for a solid good meal. Enjoy!
