Mama's Caribbean Grill & Bar

This was one of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had. The food was absolutely nasty — honestly tasted worse than old school cafeteria food. To make it worse, it made my stomach hurt and had me feeling horrible after eating it. The service was just as bad — they didn’t try to accommodate me at all. The person making my food even went to the bathroom in the middle of preparing it, then came back with an attitude. Completely unprofessional, unsanitary, and unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody. Save your money, your health, and your stomach.

This place has been nasty long as they have been on central ave. Nobody goes here if your from charlotte they been nasty all my life.

One word: TRAGIC.

I ordered the oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage, and jerk chicken from Mama’s Caribbean Restaurant in Charlotte — and everything was awful. I took one bite and literally had to spit it out. WHO cooked this? Because whoever’s in that kitchen needs to have their Caribbean card revoked immediately.

Let me be clear: I’ve NEVER tasted oxtails I didn’t finish. Never thrown them away a day in my life — and y’all know oxtails aren’t cheap. But these? I tossed them in the trash with zero hesitation. No guilt. No second thoughts. Just bye.

This food had zero flavor, no heart, no soul — just sad, dry, and disrespectful to the culture. And don’t even get me started on the jerk chicken… where was the jerk?! This isn’t Caribbean food. It’s a crime scene. Please, for the love of good food, STOP cooking Caribbean dishes if you’re not going to do them right.

Charlotte deserves better. Caribbean food deserves better. I said what I said.

Ok, for a Jamaican I must say . For my first time visiting this place im very very disappointed in how the food taste it was very very bland no taste at all I got the Oxtail plate, Rice and peas, Mac and yams.

Now far as the atmosphere very nice hospitality the husband was very nice and welcoming..

I must say I am absolutely disappointed with the trash that this restaurant tried to pass off as food. I went in there today and got the oxtail and the curry goat with the rice and peas came home tried to eat it and it was bland. I would have been better off licking wall paste, so I called them to tell them Hey, my food is bland I don't want it, I'm going to return it. They argued with me and told me that I couldn't return my food and somethingwas wrongwith my taste.Then when I drove over there after they hung up on me. The old lady came from the back trying to argue with me and tell me my taste buds were wrong.No, ma'am, my taste buds are not wrong. No disrespect, but you might be too old to still be in the kitchen because that food was disgusting. I really tried not to be this person but there ghetto treatment warrants my ignorant response.

Call in and ordered Rasta pasta and the young lady said that they have i. Got to the store and asked her again about the Rasta pasta. She apparently didn’t understand because she gave me peas and rice with the oxtails. Not what I wanted but I paid for it anyway. The food has absolutely no seasoning or flavor. Yams taste only cinnamon. Cabbage has no salt or flavor. The oxtails were tender but that and the gravy is bland. I’m mad I paid $22 for bland food

OMG WE HAD A BLAST AT MAMAS CARIBBEAN RESTAURANT THE SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE WAS BEAUTIFUL THERE WAS MUSIC AND DELICIOUS FRUIT DRINKS THE ROTI AND CURRY CHICKEN DID ITS JOB FOR THE PRICE VINROY THE OWNER IS REALLY GREAT SO PLEASE GO THERE AND SUPPORT!

I came here for the first time this past weekend. After I paid and sat down the lady came back and said it didn't go through... not a problem I paid and tipped again. I was charged twice on my card (maybe I was being stupid for falling for that). However my bank called me with multiple fraud charges for the following days and I confirmed my card number was indeed stolen. Maybe it was a coincidence but granted this was the only new place I used my card. Side note the curry was okay but the meat had lots of bones in it. Do what you will with this information but if you come here I would pay in cash.

I’ve been coming here for 5 years now, since I’ve moved to Charlotte. This place is one of the most authentic Caribbean restaurants in Charlotte. Everything is made just the way it’s supposed to and made fresh. Mama has her own justice which is a fresh fruit juice blend and it’s very refreshing, healthy and made with real fruits. I highly recommend and will continue to support and eat here.

Food is not on the same level as other restaurants uere. They were one of the early ones for their defense but hard rice, baked jerk chicken and small portions is no competition for a place just around the corner *shrug* love the people and space though but food isnt it
