McHale’s Irish Pub
McHale’s Irish Pub delivers exactly what a neighborhood pub should: comfort, character, and food that surprises you with how good it actually is. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t need to shout — the charm comes from the worn‑in wood, the easygoing crowd, and a staff that treats regulars and newcomers the same.
Food & Drinks
The menu leans classic pub fare, but the execution is far better than you’d expect from a casual spot. Wings, fish and chips, and shepherd’s pie all hold their own, but the real standout — the thing people talk about long after they leave — is the burger.
Let’s be clear:
McHale’s has one of the best burgers you’ll find anywhere.
Perfectly seasoned, cooked exactly the way you ask, and stacked with just enough toppings to add flavor without turning into a mess. It’s the kind of burger that makes you pause mid‑bite because you weren’t expecting it to be that good.
Drinks are straightforward and honest — cold beer, solid pours, and a bar that knows how to keep things moving even on busy nights.
Service & Atmosphere
Service is friendly in that classic pub way: not overly formal, not rushed, just genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere is warm, lived‑in, and comfortable. It’s a place where you can settle in for a game, a conversation, or a plate of food that hits exactly the way you want it to.
Best For
- A great burger and a cold beer
- Casual nights out
- Watching a game
- Low‑key social hangs
Bottom Line
McHale’s Irish Pub is the definition of a reliable neighborhood spot — cozy, unpretentious, and consistently good. The food is better than it needs to be, the service is warm, and the burger alone is worth the trip.

We’ve been coming here since it opened and absolutely love it. We used to joke that we were praying for a proper Irish pub to open nearby—and apparently those prayers were answered.
We recently hosted a birthday here for my partner, and the experience was fantastic. They made reserving a space ahead of time easy, and everything was ready when we arrived. Kai and the staff truly went above and beyond to make it a great night.
Great atmosphere, great people, and a place we’re always happy to come back to. Sláinte! 🍻

McHale's, while expensive, is definetly a cool place to eat or grab a drink at, that is if you dont mind a huge crowd. The food was really good & fresh. The service was amazing, especially for how busy it was. Their servers are the backbone of the establishment 100%. It is extremely loud & very packed on the weekends so prepare for that. Worth a visit!

Thank you for saving space for our post-dinner celebration for my husband! We had a blast. Didn't order food but will next time. The Guiness was on point and I'd expect nothing less. ;-)

One of the few restaurants open for lunch in NoDa!!
Fast service and delicious food. (A rare thing I have found since moving to CLT)
I ordered the beef stew. It came out hot and filling with delicious Irish soda bread.
The most polite and friendly staff. The attention to detail in the construction and decor of the restaurant to make it look and feel as though you’ve been transported to Ireland is very apparent. New favorite spot. 10/10 recommend. Bring your friends, family, and coworkers.
Really wanted to love this place, but the waitress sucked and service was horrible. Try bar service and avoid getting a table. Leprechaun balls were great (and a little spicy)! If you want a good Irish pub, with great service and better atmosphere try Nora Mac’s in Ballantyne or Mary O’Neill’s in Waxhaw. Such a shame that McHales fumbles the experience.

Irish bar influenced. Not a full blown Irish bar but still good and fun. Entrees are burgers and fish and chips along with beef stew, Irish curry and shepherds pie. Roughly $18 to $23. My beef stew was full of beef, potatoes and carrots. Plenty of food for a big guy like me. Burgers looked great.
Wasn't too loud . Parking in NoDa is always a challenge.

I’ve been there a few times now and love the food and the atmosphere. The back porch is a great place to hang out on a warm day in the spring and fall. Great bartenders as well!!

Fantastic Irish Pub!!! Great service, great food, great atmosphere. I would highly recommend the burger with fries. The bacon onion marmalade on the burger is so flavorful! I loved watching a football game in the back area, it’s heated!! Great spot to be a regular!

I really liked it here! I’ve been to a lot of Irish Pubs, both here in the US and in Ireland. McHales got the pub feel just right and chose a great location in NoDa. The food was really good and the service was terrific.
