i love milkbread and am always raving about their ham & cheese croissant - it’s heavenly! i went this morning at 9am and unfortunately they were out of them already. while this is a bummer, i understand it’s just the early bird gets the worm! what bothered me today was that everything seemed quite unorganized and frazzled. i waited about 15 minutes for the turkey bagel sandwich as a substitute and noticed that everyone who ordered after me was receiving their food. i asked for the status and they shared that the toaster they used takes forever, totally fine. but upon receiving said bagel, it was extremely cold and had literally an essence of being toasted. quite disappointed with what i got especially since it wasn’t what i wanted in the first place. i love milkbread and will continue to give it a try but left feeling disappointed with my experience.

Im rating this after my third experience at milkbread. The first time it wasn’t bad. I ordered a draft latte and it was good. Service was great, drink was good. No complaints! I liked it so much I decided to go again, this time I got beignets. Omg, worst beignets I’ve ever had! They were heavy with oil and just yucky, the latte I ordered was good though. So I didn’t completely write them off yet. After today’s visit though, I’m done. I ordered a dirty chai latte. It tasted like nothing. Literally just warm water with a slight cinnamon flavor. Also, there were other customers there having a professional photo shoot. At the milkbread. I get that it’s a trendy spot but wow. It was just very off putting. This place isn’t for me. Only good thing about this place is their employees. They’re great.

Awesome food. The hot dip chicken sandwich is fire. The crinkle fries are too. All we need now is cheese sauce for the fries. Wait time was minimal. I ordered on Toast and it was just about ready 5 mins later. Great for to go food pick ups. Seating is outdoor so it’s up to chance of the dine in.

I have been a Milkbread supporter since they came to the old Dairy Queen on Central Ave. Unfortunately today is my last. I ordered from Ubereats. I got the cauliflower. It is one of my favorites. Well it had a few extra ingredients that I wasn't expecting, reddish blonde hair fried into a few pieces. DISGUSTING!!!

This restaurant is the Cheesecake Factory of boutique, hipster restaurants. Offering a confused menu ranging from cupcakes to whole grain bowls to Mac and cheese, despite its clearly Asian branding, there is no hint of Asian identity in any single one of its food items. The most confusing part is this place doesn't even serve milk bread. The chicken's on potato buns and the donuts do NOT taste like shokupan. Why they chose that name is beyond me.
The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is similarly directionless and honestly frankly soulless. It's has the exact sterile, slightly hipster, mass marketed, uncanny valley environment that's so common in corporate restaurant environments nowadays. The place is stark-white with slight retro diner accompaniments. Typical fast casual decor despite pricing its food at $16 a salad.
The food? Singular flavor notes lacking in texture. It's food for people who don't like food. If you're a chicken nuggets and fries every meal type of guy this is your place. If you have heard of the word umami, you'll be sorely disappointed. Again, why they chose to co-opt Asian food for its name, a food culture known for its umami and textures, to only serve bland food is beyond me.
The only redeeming part of the menu is the chicken sandwich is big, but there's no flavor profile there and the chicken breast is way too large and dense to be sitting on top of a small potato bun. You'll finish chewing the bun in 1/10th the time it takes to chew the chicken - major texture mismatch. In addition to the lack of flavor and texture in the food, I have to say, is it just me or does the food all weirdly had a strong cardboard taste to it? It's especially noticeable in the cupcakes, what's up with that?
Overall, this place is confused, flavorless, overpriced, and weirdly sterile. I wouldn't recommend going here. Shame it wasn't good when the name and branding promises so much. Charlotte has a long way to go when it comes to having culture in its food scene
