I almost never leave reviews but in this case, I really need to. I have always been a huge fan of all of the local restaurant groups in the CLT area. I love trying different cuisine, I love when people open up cool concepts in the area, etc. Milkbread has always been so reputable to me just because it’s apart of a larger restaurant group and the people who create these concepts have such a cool vision that it always gets my immediate support. So that’s why I wanted to write this. I hope the owners will see this and truly hear it because I’m not alone in my thoughts.
I moved to Plaza last October. I’m a 2 minute walk from this Milkbread. Honestly I was so excited to be able to walk to this place when I moved into my apartment. I’ve pretty consistently gotten food at this location for almost a year now.
Today, I got an avocado toast that was literally burnt to almost ashes and it was my final straw. I get avocado toast from this Milkbread location SO often and sometimes they go overboard with the seeds which is annoying but I just knock off the excess. Sometimes it’s a lil too crispy but I eat it anyway. Whatever. I’m genuinely not picky. But today my toast was black and ashy. When I got home and saw it, I tried it anyway bc I don’t like to make returns and such, and it was so bitter and nasty from being burnt that I couldn’t eat it. The whole toast was so black and there were so many seeds you would genuinely not know it was an avocado toast if you saw it. So I decided to take it back thinking they’d be like “wow! That’s so burnt I’m sorry, we’ll make you another!”
When I brought it back, the girl told me that that’s how the owners want it to be made. ??? I don’t think that’s true because I’ve had that same avocado toast order for almost a year and it’s never been that way. And, when you go on the Milkbread Instagram, they do not advertise an avocado toast that is literally completely blackened and ashy. They ended up making me a new one, but the push back and bad vibes that I got put me off. I also tip really well on take out. The same as I would a waitress, it’s 20% every time. So it’s crazy to me to get push back when I am a regular customer who knows that a burnt piece of bread is not only not standard for the location but is also nasty in general and not acceptable to serve to the public, and when I try to support the workers there as a customer the best I can with my tips.
The reason I’m so adamant right now is because this isn’t my first issue here, but it’s my most recent and annoying one. I’ve had a biscuit that was literally still squishy dough and not fully cooked that I didn’t return, and like I said, the toast often has so many seeds that you have to knock them all off before you eat.
I understand fun flavors and textures in food. I know what is adventurous and what is not. What’s going on here is not a cool and fun food concept. It’s genuinely a low effort rip off. And for the price point, it is not acceptable.

MOLDY ROTTEN FOOD! I have had a few concerning experiences at MILKBREAD. Most recently, I had discovered the ham croissant I purchased from MILKBREAD was covered with MOLD which was confirmed by the restaurant after I contacted them! This isn't the first time I've encountered food quality issues at MILKBREAD…previously, I found a hair embedded in glaze of donut and french fry pieces mixed in a rotten fruit dish. The photos speak for themselves, this place is low quality with poor sanitation and poor health practices. I've previously brought these concerns to the attention of management and the owner each time. AND I gave them several chances to make it up. Not only did I have many food quality issues with MILKBREAD, it is common for staff to frequently forget items that you have paid for in your order.
The moldy ham pastry is especially troubling, as it suggests the meat may have been left out for an extended period. As a result of this incident, I experienced severe illness and had to miss work and time with my family. After these repeated experiences, I cannot recommend MILKBREAD or any establishment under the same ownership, as they constantly give excuses after excuses with no change. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions about where to dine. I encourage potential customers to research local health inspection reports and online Yelp & Google reviews before visiting MILKBREAD. Spend your money somewhere else there’s so many other options with food that won’t make you sick!

Just had an incredible meal at Milkbread at Plaza Midwood and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious! It’s a walk-up order spot with no indoor seating, but honestly, the food more than makes up for it. I tried the Heirloom Tomato BLT and it was phenomenal—from the perfectly crisp verdant bread to the lightly salted heirloom tomatoes and those thick slices of bacon, every bite was mouthwatering. We also went for the OG sandwich with the buttermilk-brined fried chicken, and it was fried to absolute perfection. And those grandfathers pickles? Seriously amazing and so full of flavor, unlike anything I’ve had before. Overall, I’d rate it a solid 10/10 and would highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance!

At 8 PM Tuesday night, no soft ice cream and no beignets. Waste of time driving there.

Food was great when I first started coming here but lately hot dishes have been consistently cold and tastes like they have been sitting out all day which is weird because I mostly order on my way to work in the morning.

Smoked ham and cheese toast was came just one slice of toast and a slice of ham and cheese on top. Its unacceptable for 13$. We were expecting at least something bigger or more in size. Definately not worth for the price. Taste was pretty good, mustard was spicy for the people who are not familiar with oldschool mustards. OG sandwich was good on taste but could ve bit more bigger. It was OK except all these.

Don’t understand the hype. The soft serve is grainy and not creamy. The donuts have an old oil taste. I’m full….of regret.

Unassuming little roadside restaurant serving absolutely delicious chicken sandwiches! We had the OG and Hot Dip, devoured them both in minutes. Side of fries with homemade ranch for dipping in was excellent. Having it all with ice cold lemonade made for a perfect lunch. It was outdoor seating only in a little side walk patio under umbrellas. Can't wait to come back again!

Milkbread is the kind of place that you expect is going to be amazing with how good it looks and assumingly a good brand to expand the way they have... however, i am unsure why this place is always so popular.

The chicken sandwich was pretty underwhelming for $10 straight and the $20 whole bowl (add chicken) was a pathetic size with a mid taste.

I find it hard to feel like we received a good value and quality for the price. Add on some confusion with the pickup time and I don't think we will be returning.

The best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had in my life 1000/10.

Update: was not a fan of the oatmeal, salty to taste.

With an extensive menu of coffee, bowls, sandwiches and salads - Milkbread is a must try. The new heirloom BLT sandwich is a 10/10!
