Closed by the health department but their website is still open and accepting orders. Do not order from here!

The place was closed. I didn't receive notification that they were under renovation

They are closed for renovations and instead of having a message online or recording when you call, they just have a sign on the door. I was able to place an order and had it confirmed, only to arrive after a 30 minute drive to find out they’re not even open. Now I have a transaction I have to dispute because there’s no one available to talk to. Very disappointed in how they are running things right now…

We made reservations for Valentine’s Day. Even got an automated message the day before asking us to confirm the reservation - which I did. Showed up for the reservation and the restaurant was closed. Doors locked. Bar stools stacked against the bar. We could see some people inside but nobody ever came to the door to acknowledge us even though we knocked several times. There were 3 other couples dealing with the same experience. I even just got an automated email asking me if I enjoyed my visit last night. Laughable. Not sure how to give negative stars but I certainly do not recommend this restaurant.

I drove from Columbia, South Carolina, only to arrive and find that my reservation was not honored. I understand that unexpected issues can arise, but there should have been a more thoughtful and effective way to manage the situation and accommodate guests. Unfortunately, this experience completely disrupted my Valentine’s Day plans and left a very disappointing impression.

Made a online reservation at 7:45 when we got there the hostess said all the online reservation for that time was messed up and the wait time was 1 hour and that he would grab us by remembering our faces without writing our name while there was 10 other groups of people waiting being really unprofessional and watching countless people get rejected absolutely terrible.

Officially done with Nikko’s! This is the second time they have cancelled all reservations due to a “computer glitch” during busy season/holiday. this happened last year during valentines weekend as well. This reservation was booked way in advance. No notice prior stating the reservation was cancelled. All the host stated was “I don’t know what to tell you! It’s first come first serve at this point” I promise they will never get a dime from me again. Customer service is garbage.

We had Valentines night reservations and the damn place has no cooks. Please don’t ever give them your money. They had our number and could have texted us. That place has gone down hill. Please show them that’s not okay by not going. They were not even apologetic.

genuinely do not understand how Nikko Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar has the reputation it does. This was hands down the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had — and it was for a birthday dinner.

We arrived at 8:15 PM and weren’t seated until 8:40. That would have been tolerable if the restaurant had been busy — it wasn’t. It was barely occupied. We were given water and then sat there for almost an hour before anyone took our order. Our order was not taken until 9:30 PM. We ended up leaving at 10:00 PM because of how disgusting and uncomfortable the entire experience became.

Service was shockingly poor. There were four employees visible: two older women working the floor, one man making sushi, and a younger girl behind the bar. Despite the low volume of guests, our waitress ignored us for extended periods while standing behind us talking to another table for 10+ minutes. We finally had to flag her down just to get our order taken — and then she rushed us.

The drinks were a disaster. We were served the wrong rum, and when we politely mentioned it, the waitress argued with us about it. Once it was replaced, it was clearly watered down. Our water glasses were visibly dirty. One of the wine glasses had lip smudges on it that were not from anyone at our table. That alone is unacceptable.

The cleanliness of the restaurant was alarming. The bathrooms had no paper towels, the toilets were dirty, and it looked like they hadn’t been cleaned recently. There was silverware on the floor in the main walkway that staff walked past repeatedly without picking up. The entire place felt dirty and disheveled.

To make matters worse, there was an intoxicated man at the bar who appeared close with the staff. He berated us as we were leaving, and instead of intervening, staff continued serving him alcohol.

We also witnessed the waitress deliver sushi with avocado to another table after the guest clearly stated she had asked for no avocado. The waitress set it down and essentially told her to eat it instead of correcting the mistake. That interaction alone showed a complete lack of professionalism or care.

This was supposed to be a birthday celebration. The staff was aware of that. Instead, we experienced neglect, unsanitary conditions, confrontational service, and an overall atmosphere that felt chaotic and poorly managed.

If I could give negative stars, I would.

I set a reservation for my birthday for 15 people, 3 hours later when I arrived 30 minutes before my reservation. They told me that they didn’t have no chicken or no steak and they only had shrimp and walked away with no explanation. It was the worst.

My husband and I visited Nikko to celebrate my birthday. We arrived at the restaurant about 10 minutes prior to our reservation (6:50pm) and were seated promptly. The table was not ready to be sat and the waitress had to clean the table off to seat us. After she asked for our drink order and I tried to order a dirty vodka martini to which she replied they were out of all plain vodka. Mind you this was a Saturday night. I ordered a glass of wine and my husband ordered an Old Fashioned. Our drinks came out and the wine was fine but his drink was just a finger of bourbon poured over an ice sphere. While we waited to order, three large groups of 10-12 people each walked in and were waiting to be seated. They waited at least 20 minutes before anyone walked up to even speak to them. While watching the lobby get fuller and fuller I noticed that on the restaurant floor there were only two servers working. They were taking orders, serving drinks, acting as the hostess and bussing the tables. Not to be offensive but they were both older ladies and in a restaurant of Nikko’s size this was not feasible. On top of this they were using plastic push carts to bring drinks and food to the tables. My husband and I waited approximately 40 minutes before we were done. We paid for our drinks and left at 7:30 pm. This used to be an amazing spot for food and drinks but this was absolutely horrible. We will not be back and it is extremely sad because it used to be one of my favorite spots in Charlotte.
