Fufu was gummy, discolored and inedible. I got the fufu and egusi with mackerel and had to fry the mackerel in peanut oil when it got here, it was steamed or boiled. Worse fufu I have ever had, at this point I give up on African food in Charlotte, they must be imposters. Somebody is lying! I do not recommend. 🍅 🍅 👎🏾 👎🏾

Delicious. I always get the jollof rice (Ghanaian) with mackerel & plantains.

The Food was horrible, I had the egusi soup with chicken. The chicken was old and hard. The other dish was fried rice with 3 chicken legs, 2 pieces of the chicken was old and very hard and the 3rd one was fresh.
It took him 20 minutes to bring our drinks and then rushed us to pay for our food.

Went there and ordered okra stew. It was more oil than okra. Fine. So I ordered light soup and would take the oily Okra home to drain it. So I ordered 2 meals. They brought me out a Styrofoam plate to put an oily dish in. I asked for a plastic container, and they refused. I told them I would pay for the plastic container they still refused. So I ordered 2 meals, one I should have returned because it was oily, not stewed. But we are arguing over not giving a proper take out container. I got the bill I ordered 2 waters, 1 cost $1.50 the other $2. I refused to take the light soup as they wouldn't give me a container for my stewed okra. The menu said both dishes were $14.99 and 12.99 charged me 21.99 for the (wakeye)? and $19.99 for the okra stew. No sign of a price increase anywhere. I asked them to explain the price difference. Everyone looked shocked that I actually paid attention to my bill. The problem went from employees to the boss with no honest answer they could not make it make sense. No, they didn't give me my money back. Don't eat there or just know this restaurant has a menu for haha sake and make you pay whatever they want to charge you. WATCH YOUR BILL. LITTLE FOOD FOR ALL THAT MONEY. Their serving size is ridiculous for the money that make up and charge you. The bill doesn't match the menu???
*It's been 2 years. No response is interesting 🤔. They can't make it make sense, i guess. Hopefully, they updated their menus since they didn't have time to respond to me.

As an African, this was by far one of my worst dining experiences. Save your time and money. We walked in and were given menus, but then left completely unattended for nearly 30 minutes. We had to call the waiter over just to place our order. After that, it took another 30 minutes for the food to arrive.

I ordered fufu with palm-nut soup, but what I received was disappointing. The fufu came wrapped in a plastic bag, and the soup was served in a tiny bowl—there was barely enough to go with the meal. I asked politely for extra soup and even offered to pay for it, but was refused.

When I asked to speak with the manager, he outright ignored us and said he was too busy. Frustrated, I decided to cancel my to-go order, but was told it was too late and we had to pay for it regardless. When the manager finally did speak to us, he was rude and confrontational, making the situation even worse.

What should’ve been a nice weekend meal turned into a deeply regrettable experience.

I drove really far to have some grilled steak. I ordered the steak and then asked for a side of plantain. I was told I had to add a $16 order of soup to be able to order plantain in addition to my order of steak (Suya). This was dinner time and I was the only patron in there so I didn’t see why I could order plantain YET it’s in the menu and priced for $4 so with my steak I would still have been paying for a full meal. It’s sad the person serving me did not seem to care if or not I dine in. I told him I came for the steak so he should have at least offered an alternative accompaniment to the steak. He instead sent me away yet I was already seated and ready to dine.
I am truly disappointed!

I was supposed to have left a review weeks ago. I'm very picky eater!!! I was so unsure as to where to go to try Egusi and fufu. Something said stop here especially after looking at a couple of pics and reviews. The presentation of my food was beautiful. The vibe of the restaurant gives you "home" vibes. -I first ordered *Egusi /fufu* With a beverage I came back for the *Peanut butter soup w/ pounded yam* both were amazing. Eating a healthy delicious , VERY HEALTHY,and FRESH meal is priceless for a foody chick like me🩷 If you are new to trying African food. Make ROYAL your first stop ✨

Do not go here this was the worst egusi soup I have had in my life , it was dry and gritty. The tripe is under cookies or over cooked I’m not sure. The food itself taste like the bottom of a burnt pan. The whole meal tastes burnt. I spent 43 dollars on this! Ew I’m very disgusted PLEASE AVOID GOING HERE. IM UPSET BECAUSE IM VERY VERY HUNGRY!

I am Jamaican and wanted to try another cuisine, and this was it! I was so hungry to eat all this food, I forgot to take pics of the whole food items I bought. The food was so delicious, I rarely eat out and I am telling you, I truly enjoyed the meal!

One point I will touch on is that, they truly need to do some upgrading on the dining furnitures. I wouldn’t want to wear a nice dress and have it torn on one the seats. I noticed in one corner of the table upfront had a notice that said reserved but seems as if someone may have been sleeping there. They were clothing items among a couple of balls which were underneath a table with a travel bag on the floor. Did turn me off a bit, which I noticed after ordering the food. I didn’t want to speculate so I got my food and left. It was just a sight for soar eyes is all I am saying, overall the food was good. I totally enjoyed it. I will get the okra soup next time with fufu.

Dietary restrictions: They do not cook pork.
