Dined here multiple times. The hostess today is abysmal. 7 open tables inside and she is refusing to seat a family. No manager presence to address the issue. Deplorable representation of the establishment. Hospitality should be a constant, not a cherry picked trait. I would not recommend.

Super cute place. Vibes are great, with live music on a Wednesday! Tuna poke nachos app and Brussels app were delicious. The entrees Salmon and Cacio e Pepe we’re great along with the deserts!

I learned of the restaurant while watching QC Morning. It was apparently rated best restaurant in Charlotte. Not sure of the specifics but I was excited to try it.The woman who took my order was very nice but clearly wasn’t familiar with the menu. I ordered a lemonade and she didn’t provide any instruction to get the beverage. We chose a table and we’re waiting for our food when a bartender walked by and asked if everything was ok. I asked for a drink menu and inquired on booster seats. He said let me check on the seats and walked away to never return. We were seated right across from the bar so he could clearly see us and made no effort to follow up on the booster seats, rather they had them or not, nor provide the drink menu. The food was not good. Fries served cold, the pasta salad was horrible, tasted mostly of olives.A manager walked by and inquired on or satisfaction. I told her my thoughts on the pasta salad and she completely ignored the feedback, commenting on my babies and walking away.I have no desire to ever return to this restaurant. I don’t even want to be in the vicinity lol. A true waste of money.

Chloe was an excellent waitress. I found my new favorite cocktail because of her! Those BYO espresso martinis are dangerous.

Good food. Loud AF, the overpowering perfume of the twenty-something prosti-tots at the tables beside us kind of overpowered the food, but that's not SM's fault —- but it is the dinner crowd they atteact on a Saturday night.

Is the Manager an IDIOT or simply a BIGOT? Maybe both!!! Being new to Charlotte after spending the last 36 years in Los Angeles, I was very excited to check out SALTED MELON here in the South End. I had Open Table reservations for 9pm, but had a last minute Uber cancellation, and I called to let them know it would be closer to 9:15pm for arrival if that was okay -- they said no problem. After a quick ride over from Revolution Park with my Brazilian girlfriend, and we arrived and were promptly seated. She was very excited to try out the Brazilian Steak & Frites, and really dressed up to go out. Maybe a little too dressed up, including some very uncomfortable high heels (not recommended for walking in South End). A waitress came over right away, and before even greeting us, stated that she would be unable to serve my Brazilian girlfriend because she was intoxicated and stumbling when she came in. Excuse me? WTF?? Maybe the high heels contributed to what the IDIOT (or BIGOTED) manager thought was intoxicated stumbling, but one brief greeting or conversation would have made it 100% clear this was not the case of someone being too drunk to walk or to be served. This is the rudest reception that I have ever witness to in my entire life, and I have travelled around the world and visited many restaurants in many cities (even those that have a reputation for rudeness). We have visited many other restaurants in Charlotte over the last few weeks, many in South End, and several already on Worthington, and everyone has been super friendly and professional and polite. This IDIOTIC and/or BIGOTED manager has put a giant negative stain on the SALTED MELON. Until that manager is fired, we will not return. And I hope others read this review and decide to skip this restaurant and instead visit any of the other fine establishments in the area.

Cute name, cute venue. After experiencing places like People's Market, this place left me feeling bleh. The food was mid at best. Salmon wasn't available, so I ordered the portobello wrap and watermelon salad. They weren't bad at all, just not intentional. Not even my oat milk iced latte was all that great. I was completely unmotivated to take pics. Cute spot for a drink at the bar or to maybe co-work.

This is a modern take on a cross between a lunch & dinner restaurant and a general store. The thing that surprised me about this place is how good the food is. Their service model is unique in that you'll go to the counter to order for lunch, but dinner is full service. They also have a full bar, a few TVs and killer cocktails. It's a little bit of everything makes this place worth trying and keep coming back to.

When I recently checked out The Salted Melon in Charlotte, NC, I was honestly expecting a lot. The atmosphere at first glance was truly amazing. It intrigued me and felt like a wonderful place to work. It seemed as though they really cared about making your experience great and serving excellent food. As I spent more time there, I started to notice some pretty significant red flags. This was a lesson to me to always trust my intuition. When I first got hired, there were already big communication issues, and I wasn’t being kept updated like prior jobs have done for me. I noticed it got worse, especially when management got busy. The management seemed super stressed and all over the place, which really isn't great. They're supposed to be the calm in the storm, keeping everything running smoothly. Instead, the whole atmosphere felt chaotic and disorganized, which definitely took away from the dining experience. It felt like there was a bigger problem with how the staff was trained and managed. From my experience, it just didn't stack up to other places I've worked at in the food industry. It seemed like a lot of the staff were new, which means they have a high turnover rate. That's never a good sign. There were promises made that weren't kept, and I felt like I was told a lot of things that just weren't true. There was also this noticeable tension among the team, making me think there are some real issues with how things are run and how people are treated. Additionally, I felt my pay rates weren't transparent and honest, which added to my concerns. Despite The Salted Melon having what seems like a cool menu and a lot of potential, the way it's being managed and the internal problems are just too big to ignore. It's pretty disappointing to see a place that could be amazing fall short like this. Until they get their act together and sort out these issues, I just can't recommend going there.

What a sweet surprise this place was! We forgot to make a dinner reservation on a Saturday night, and some local people recommended this to us. It sounded a little strange on the website to have a market and bakery combined with the restaurant, but it was so much fun. The service is great. The hosts were friendly, our waiter Robbie was terrific, the manager came to check in and help with things, and there was live music, which we didn’t expect. Atmosphere was very cute and upbeat with plants and cozy colors, and the food was terrific. We got fun drinks, apps, entrees, and desert. This was a really fun spot for dinner, if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere with quality food. Great location too. We took the light rail. and it was. 2-minute walk.
