Smallcakes Utopia

I came in today at 12:12pm to order 2 jars. Today the service was subpar at best. The issue I had today was with Ivey, one of the workers. So it was very obvious that I wasn’t quite sure what certain jars had in them. The place doesn’t have pictures and the little bit of menu they have is very small. She seemed to get a little irritated with me because maybe she didn’t get what I was saying or what. The thing that got me was, I was trying to say what I wanted and she gave the other worker the side eye right in front of me. Trying to be funny. Look—had I been a little younger and more hotheaded or it could’ve been someone else that’s not so passive and it could’ve been a whole altercation. If you don’t like your job, working with customers—quit and find you something else. I appreciate the other worker for not engaging as he was helping another customer anyway. I even commented if it was a miscommunication or something. Either way maybe she should check that because if it had been a bad day for me I would’ve asked her what was the look for and we could’ve went from there. Other than that, the other worker named Josh was GREAT. Very helpful and he had good manners. To be clear, the 2 stars were strictly for her service. But Josh was great…Can’t say the same for everyone else.

Fun for Kids!

I’ve visited Small Cakes Utopia multiple times to try different flavors and give a thorough review. While the cupcakes are decent, I honestly believe there are better options in the Charlotte area for those seeking a more elevated cupcake experience.

The frosting lacks depth and sometimes has a gritty texture, while the cake is fairly basic. That said, I think this spot is perfect for a child’s birthday party cakes or as a fun place to bring a group of kids for a celebration—they’d enjoy it.

On the positive side, the staff has always been friendly, and the establishment is consistently clean and welcoming. While it’s not my top choice for cupcakes, I’d still recommend it for families or kid-centered celebrations.

Ordered online and the cupcakes were ready quickly. I got the Friday special: sweet potato casserole cupcake and was super disappointed. It had a metallic taste and the pecans were randomly shoved in the side of the cake. Definitely wouldn't buy that again but the regular menu items were delicious! Red velvet and the wedding cake are TOP NOTCH! Friendly service as well.

Wish I would've taken a picture before devouring, but it's too late ? I've always ordered from Uber Eats before. Today was my first time at the establishment and it was a cute shop. The staff was nice and the cupcakes are always delicious ?

Friendly staff! Delicious cupcakes and sorbet! I had a Too Good To Go pick up order and they were helpful and the cupcakes were a great deal on the app. Highly recommend!

There was no one else in the shop when we arrived so she wasn’t busy. I asked the representative behind the counter what was in the Everything Fall Cupcake and she told “just what it sounds like, fall flavors.” I can think of 15 fall flavors off the top of my head and just wondered what was in their interpretation of it. I didn’t get anything. Too many other sweet/dessert options between here and home. We’re careful about where we choose to spend our money and I just couldn’t spend here when I didn’t know what I would be getting.

These are by far the best cupcakes in Charlotte! Period. Full stop. Try them you won’t regret it. I drive 7 miles just to have them.

The cupcakes here are the best! I also like the different options of cupcakes in a jar or cupcake smash. They have great ice cream flavors. The staff is always super friendly. The store is so cute and clean. They have a rewards program, you get stamps for each purchase. They are my favorite cupcake shop. If you like lemon the lemon drop is incredible!!

Fantastic little bakery. I appreciated that these cupcakes had delicious cake and toppings and icing that weren't overdone. I can't wait to go back and try their ice cream.

Never again! Needlessly overpriced and no sense of customer service. I was better off going to a local grocery store, paying half for double the quantity & the same quality of taste. I expected better from a small bakery - better taste and better service. Both were a disappointment.

Smallcakes Utopia is a delightful little bakery with an undeniable charm, perfect for those who appreciate a good sweet treat. The cookies and cake pops are simply divine – with a well-balanced flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. The texture of the cookies, in particular, is spot-on if you're a fan of soft, chewy bites that melt in your mouth.

Their service is absolute perfection – professional, efficient, and attentive. They helped me quickly and answered all of my questions with ease, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.

However, the cupcakes didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While the texture is lovely – soft and fluffy with a light crumb – the flavor left something to be desired. The frosting, though generous, ended up carrying most of the taste, which was a bit too much. Over several times I have tried a four including: lemon, cookies and cream, red velvet, and chocolate cream. The red velvet was by far the standout, with its signature flavor and the perfect tang of cream cheese frosting.

Sadly, the rest of the cupcakes lacked the depth of flavor that could have been easily remedied with a hint of lemon zest or a sprinkle of chocolate chips in the batter. Despite this, I will certainly return to Smallcakes Utopia – but for their exceptional cookies, cake pops, and perhaps a scoop of ice cream next time.

All I can say is pure goodness!! These cupcakes are moist, fresh and consistently flavorful every time, which you don’t see everywhere. Customer service is also excellent.

The first cupcake the cashier tried to get us fell to the ground. In the pack we received, some of the frosting slid off as well in the store. Maybe they looked good once, but overall the taste was dense and the decorations were subpar. Maybe we had a unique bad experience. Won’t be back again. It was the store close to IKEA.
