Southern Pecan - Gulf Coast Kitchen

We used to love this restaurant and my daughter chose it for her 16th birthday dinner. They have changed chefs and the food is terrible now! We will never go back!

4 out of the five of us received cold food (3 different order): 2 flounder/mashed potatoes - all food on both plates ice cold; 1 jambalaya ice cold; one southern fried steak/ mashed potatoes - all food on plate ice cold. Only 2 of us chose to send our plates back. Had we known we were going to wait 30 minutes to get our food, we might have just sent it back and told them to not replace the food. It was uncomfortable for us to be eating in shifts! At no time did a manager come over to apologize or ask what he could do. Server was instructed to offer us dessert on the house. We all assumed it was for all of us to compensate for the discomfort of eating in shifts and having a long uncomfortable time at the table. Surprise - they only comped us for 2! This is the 2nd time this scenario has happened to us at Southern Pecan. We thought we'd give them another chance. BIG MISTAKE! We will not be going back.

We went to dinner there for my husband's birthday last night, with two other couples. We loved having a round table! And everyone's entree was truly fabulous. I had the pecan crusted catfish, others had shrimp and grits, flounder, and braised short ribs. We will be back!

We had a great experience at Southern Pecan Gulf Coast in Charlotte, a Louisiana-inspired restaurant with a warm and welcoming Southern vibe. We started with the BBQ shrimp appetizer, which was flavorful and had that classic Gulf Coast kick. We also tried the pickle and bacon deviled eggs—a creative twist, though not our personal favorite.

For our entrées, I had the roasted chicken, which was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. My husband ordered the braised short rib, and it was outstanding—rich, slow-cooked, and full of flavor.

The service was excellent from start to finish, and the ambiance was relaxed, stylish, and inviting, perfect for dinner and conversation. We really enjoyed the overall experience and would definitely return to explore more of the menu.

This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at the Southern Pecan. We had a party of 13, celebrating an anniversary and a birthday. The $30 Red Snapper was rubbery and tough. Food was under seasoned, some overwhelmingly under seasoned. Prior to this dining experience I would’ve recommended this restaurant. For

Very disappointed. This place is really iffy. Last time we came it was great. Now, lemme lost some things. In every resturant I review, I start a stop watch and try to sit near the kitchen. The entrees took 45-60 minutes. Which is ridiculous. Now here is my main reason of a low rating. As a chef, seasoning is very important. First, I ordered Chicken Pasta, Mac n' cheese and Bread with cheese. The pasta was very bland. Lacked seasoning and presentation. (Every dish should at least a little bit visually appealing) The Mac n' cheese also lacked seasoning and remained bland as well. Over all, the place isn't great but some times when you are in a rough spot it takes a while to recover.

This was my first time dining at Southern Pecan. I can see why my wife and the rest of our family love it.

We chose the patio since we are dining with our two very small grandchildren. My wife and I both had the Pecan Fried Catfish. Our outstanding server Crystal told us all about $10 drink specials, and half price flatbread. She is a real star. Fully on top of everything. I hope Crystal is at Southern Pecan for years to come.

Baked oysters were delicious but price seemed a little high for 1/2 dozen. Southern Fried steak also very good although steak was more greasy than crispy. I took off one star due to reservation request not being noted, asked for best booth or table available and they sat us next to bathroom and server work area. Not a huge deal but one of my pet peeves when making a reservation.

Ordinarily the service would rate five stars but some sort of snafu occurred in the private dining room that slowed everything down dramatically.

Bacon cooked to a crisp. Other food and drinks were very good. Waiting staff appeared stretched.

My mom and I visited The Southern Pecan, and it was absolutely fabulous! We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated right away at a cozy booth. Water was brought promptly while we looked over the menu. As we waited for our server, we took in the beautiful décor, open kitchen, and lively atmosphere. The place felt warm and inviting, with blues music playing softly in the background and happy guests all around.

Our server, Cassie, was bubbly, friendly, and full of great recommendations! She made us feel right at home and helped us choose some guest favorites. We started with the Shrimp Cocktail, which came with an incredible BBQ reduction sauce — delicious! For our entrées, we both ordered the Fried Catfish — mine with mashed potatoes and green beans, and my mom’s with greens and mashed potatoes. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and full of flavor.

We truly enjoyed everything about our experience. I’d highly recommend The Southern Pecan to anyone craving authentic Southern comfort food. Bring your friends, family, or out-of-town guests — you won’t be disappointed!

I look forward to dining there again upon our return trip to Charlotte. Dinner was fantastic. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and assisted us with decision making given that there were so many entrees that intrigued us. The noise level was perfect-it was lively, yet you can still hold a conversation with your friends.
